DZ idle problem

I can not seem to make my engine idle anywhere near 2000 rpms. it just dies. It runs great everywhere else. I was using a os f, cool power 20% comp heli. 16-12 prop. it turns 8700 rpms. I was running the low end 1/2 turn in from flush and 1 and 1/8 on the high. I have gone a full turn on the low in both direction with no success. I see Troy Newman was running an enya #4 so I thought I would try one. Any thoughts

DZ idle problem

Could be a heat related problem. Do you have plenty of cooling over the pump? It could also be a bad pump, in which case the engine will need to come see us.

DZ idle problem

I opened up the front of the cowl from the beginning. But we have been above 110 for the last 14 days also.

It does not die in the air. Only on extended idle, like we I am landing.

DZ idle problem

Isn't 2000 a little low for this engine? I set mine at 22-2300. Any lower and it gets kinda rough but will do it.

Mine will reliably idle at 1900 with a 18 in prop, on 20% nitro.

Tune the pump/regulator

We tuned a DZ a few weeks ago that did the same thing. Poor lower range, idle and died. We wound up with the regulator about 2 to 2.5 in from flush. Then the motor ran perfectly with typical YS response and a fine idle. Each motor takes a little bit different setting. I have seen from 2.5 turns in from flush (rich) to .5 turn out from flush.

Coolpwer 30%, OS F or YS 4 plug are the standards we are using.
