The shocks in the first pic are bone stock, the springs (orange) are mini T's. They are set with the two thickest pre load collars that came with the mini T. The other set is from Thetoys.com. the whole set is aluminum and the threaded collar is set to about a 1/4 " from the top. I am using 30 wt oil in the rear and about 50 in the front. The compression rate is just about right and the rebound is dead on.

Steering Help

Ok, so the stock steering parts aren't the greatest It looks like there are quite a few options out there. I was hoping you folks could help me cut through the bull and just get what I need. I have 4 RC18B's for my friends to race around our little track with. I don't need killer bling. I don't need to go faster. The cars are running stock motors. I just want to get rid of the slop and the breakage. I want to keep them as low maintenance as reasonably possible. Since I have to buy 4 of everything, cost is sorta important.

Please recommend
1) Servo Saver solution
2) Drag Link Solution
3) CVD type swing shaft to replace front dogbones that always pop out
3) Anything else you want to add.

From reading through the many, many pages of this forum, I have started looking at the following:
*Metal Servo Saver Rings - http://www.thetoyz.com/cart/thetoyz_...cat_name=RC18B
*Driven Productions DP Drag Link - http://www.thetoyz.com/cart/thetoyz_...at_name=RC18B#
*The Tozy Aluminum Steering Assembly - http://www.thetoyz.com/cart/thetoyz_...cat_name=RC18B
*Integy CVD Swing Shafts - http://www.thetoyz.com/cart/thetoyz_...cat_name=RC18B

Thanks in advance!
Spiro

servo saver solution, get a pack of (hard) springs, cut the bottoms off, and slide onto the spring on your servo saver, hold on with a tiny tack of "ca", here's my list

DP gear cover (unless its asphalt, or carpet, you NEED it)
DP draglink
MIP CVD's (intergy = interjunk)
maybe some RPM RC parts, dang near indestructable

Calvino,

Thanks for the reply. I totally agree on the need for the DP gear cover. I don't know why that wasn't just designed in... We are on dirt, by the way. Those tiny rocks in the spur gear are a constant nuisance.

Question: Why the MIP CVD's? I have no experience with these or other brands for the RC18's, so I was just wondering why you thought those were "the ones".

Thanks much,
Spiro

From what I hear MIP is one of the best hopup brands out there. Integy I have had personal experience with and there products where actually junk. Just stay away from aluminum arms and other parts they are really unnecessary. A few posts back i posted where to get lots of tires for cheap.

MIP is extremely nice, i run their super diff and absolutely love it, don't go hog wild on upgrades, the car is nice as is. IF you want to be slightly faster, get a 2s lipo, and a good charger (and monitor) and that should make you faster

Are balancers necessary? I was thinking about getting a couple lipos for my minis but Im not sure what I need besides the charger.

balencer IS necessary, some cells drain faster than others... lipos are much nicer than nhmi's but require a little more work

calvino, westphill24

Thanks for the replies. I will look into the MIP CVD's. Any suggested source?

Quite frankly our available track size is tiny and most of us can't drive worth a damn, so we have no need to go faster. Mostly I just want keep the maintenance down and the cars ready to run more of the time. Any suggestions along these lines would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,

Spiro

Same here, I had to expand my track twice because I could barely get up to throttle on the stock motor. Good luck.

On the topic of MIP CVD Swing Shafts:

From The Toyz:

"Associated Factory Team MIP RC18T Swing Shaft CVDS axles"
http://www.thetoyz.com/cart/thetoyz_...at_name=RC18T#

"MIP Associated RC18T Shiny Swing Shaft CVDS Kit 18T"
http://www.thetoyz.com/cart/thetoyz_...cat_name=RC18T

The first says manufactured by Associated, the second says manufactured by MIP, they both say MIP. Does anybody know what the deal is here? They look identical except one is shiny and costs 2 bucks more.

Anybody else have problems with ths drag link ? http://www.thetoyz.com/cart/thetoyz_...at_name=RC18B#
Mine binds on the main center drive shaft and will not let the steering reach full through when turning right.

try flipping it over? if that fails, conatct DP, they are really nice and maybe able to help my only problem was the draglink rubbing on the ballstuds to much , as for the CVD's i think they're the same, get the ones you want, IMO the shiny stuff will wear off.... just me[8D],

so i was playing with my rc18tr and i was screwing around with the 4 wheel drive....
i discoverd something when i held the back two wheels off the ground, give it some throttle and only the back two wheels move!
I tought this thing was full time 4 wheel drive!
is trhere an adjustment for this?

My friend had that going on with his so I removed the ball studs and chucked them up on my drill and turned the collar next to the threads on a piece of sandpaper. Do this in small steps and test fit after each time and it will work. Also check and see if the link is hitting your battery strap when you turn full right. If so, grind a bit off the strap.
