No problems what so ever.

Tech Data for the DLE40cc
Ignition Battery: 4.8-8.4 NiCd or NiMH, 6.6V LiFe or 2S LiPo pack
Gas/Oil Mix: 30:1
Replacement Spark Plug: DLEG4026
Static Thrust: 20.9 lb (9.5 kg) @ 328 feet altitude, 18.7 lb (8.5 kg) @ 1,800 feet altitude
Weight Breakdown: Engine: 2.58lb (1170 g), Muffler (x2): 3.6 oz (102 g), Ignition Module: 5.3 oz (149 g), Standoffs: 0.7 oz (19 g), Misc: 2 oz (56 g)

And on the ignition unit itself it says 4.8v-8.4v operating voltage, is this a new thing?

Relatively new, but I would agree with opjosi, I use LiFe packs for everything now. I mod them so I can balance charge them thru a heavy duty switch/charge port without having to remove them from the plane. They don't puff up and no spontaneously combustion like LiPo's, and they hold a charge for ever.

That MAY be a "new thing" but DLE has historically told everyone to ONLY use LiPo packs with a regulator.

There is also a sweet spot for ignition voltages. As you increase the voltage the duration and spark "heat" goes down and there are some other issues. T
his has been covered in other threads.

The optimum operating range is in the 5 - 5.5 volt range, which makes LiFe packs ideal.

LiPo's produce up to 8.4v+ when fully charged making them unsuitable to directly power most ignitions.

If you ever need to replace your ignition you can pick up an after market RCXl ignition for much lower cost, and it maxes out at LiFe/NiCD/NiMH voltages.

Most new chargers handle LiFe without problems. All charges based upon the iMax B6 have no problems with LiFe and have special settings for them...

e.g. the Venom, E-Flite, HiTech, Turnigy, Thunder, etc... chargers are all basically the same iMax B6 design and menu.

A fully charge 2s makes 8.40v on the dot, nothing above which falls in the range of the new DLE ignitions, also the new Spektrum receivers take up to 9.6v input, so needless to say I am going to give this High Volt thing a try! Picked up an ignition and receiver battery, and working on some of the finishing touches, the DLE40cc looks good on there.

Just got a new twin Rcexl unit in the mail. The website and the unit itself state 4.8 to 8.4v, but the paperwork is saying anything above 7v , like a fully charged 2c LiFe (7.7v) or 2c LiPo must use a regulator. Guess I will email Rcexl and see whats up. I myself prefer the LiFe batteries so I can leave them in the air frame when I charge them. Don't need a good'ol Sunday afternoon ARF-B-Q.

Here is the completed heart transplant with the RCS twin. First flight today, it ran ok but needs some fine tuning, and once it is broken in it will improve as well. I moved the batteries back to offset the additional wt, but I think I will move one a bit closer to the front, it was kind of twitchy.

That DA looks like it was made for this bird! I didn't even know DA was going small, wonder how the DLE will stack up next to something like that? Keep us in the loop.

I am building the same setup with a DLE40. I am working on mounting the tank and ignition. Did you get yours figured out? Of so can you post pics of your ignition and where the plug leads come out. Also your throttle servos set up?

thx

Here is my set up for the ignition and battery. I use an IBEC so everything runs off of one battery. The fuel tank is under the wing as well as the rudder servo to help with moving weight off of the tail. The Giant Stick has a tendency to be tail heavy with modern single cylinder engines,

Super08, how did you arrange the tailwheel/rudder? I'm building a Stik 40 and would like to make it a taildragger.

Basically the same as how it is done on the Giant Stick. Here are some pics of how I moved the gear etc. The gear plate is 1/4" plywood. I also made a little plywood wedge to mount the tailwheel on to get the wire going up to the rudder at the correct angle. I also routed out a section of balsa above the stab and epoxied in a piece of plywood. The screws that hold on the tailwheel bracket go through the wedge, through the stab and into the plywood piece I added. The tail wheel wire gets bent 90 degrees and inserted into the rudder. The rudder horn is mounted over the wire to support it. Also seeing as I used an OS 55AX I had to make a hatch in the rear fuselage for the battery to get the balance where I wanted it without adding lead in the tail. The 40 size stick has a tendency to be nose heavy.

Something like that, I just mounted them right behind the bulkhead. It works good with no tipping over while flying off of the grass. We should be doing this in the Stick 40 thread though.

Ok guys, go easy on me, I'm new to the hobby, and this is my first post.. lol This thread has been a big help!

I purchased a 40 Stik a couple months ago, had a 61 Super Tiger engine on it, it hauled ass, and was a blast to fly, until last weekend when I turned it into a lawn dart! I was flying wide open, and getting crazy, (for me anyhow lol) well I had flip-flops on, noticed a fire ant pile next to me, while flying I thought a fire ant was biting me, so I looked down for a split second, and SMASH!!! lol

I have flown a few other planes in my short 4 months of sunday flying, but that Stik was so much fun, so I just ordered a Giant Stik with a brand new DLE55.. :-) First time I ever held a Transmitter in my hand was the first of this year, and have not flown much, but my other hobby is some serious motorsports, which I've been involved in for decades, so my hand eye coordination from years of driving 1000/2000HP race cars probably helps.. lol

Here's a short vid from a couple weeks ago before my Stik met the earth in an abrupt stop... I can't wait to feel the power from the 55!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yF-rMaqKGHY Here is my lawn dart...

I thought there was a thread for the 40 Stik but I cannot find it now. Tailskid here is a picture I took today of where the wheels are when I got home from flying. Even going into a dandelion patch landing it didn't flip over.

Has anyone tried using the stand off mount with a gas engine??? I see that you can get one for it. I won't have my Stick until Wed.

I did also and had a K&B .61 installed. Lost mine due to wing failure after two years of flying.

Boy are you in for a rush, don't take your eyes off it long. Recently put a DLE 55 on my Super Hots which is gross overkill, WOW. I have a GUS that does well with a G-38, 100 plus flights. Keep us in the loop!
