cenracer1, $20. Oh man thats the bargain of the century. Basically the truck is pretty solid from stock. The shock towers and steering plate are a bit soft as you have found out but they are upgradable using either Dynamite parts, GSs' own upgrades or if you fancy going all out, there are the Fioroni ones which are 6mm thick!! There should be some HCR bargains going at the moment as they have stopped making bits for the GS within the last few weeks so keep watching ebay! One thing I did find useful when setting up my truck was this article from GS. It details how the factory drivers set up their trucks. Enjoy the SUT mate, it is a great truck. http://www.gsracing.com/gsracing/tea...20building.htm
PJ, sorry 'bout the hijack, I'll slink off back to the truggy forum now!![&o]

8mm shafts??? man i didnt realise they were that big. i was just wondering if the bearings would fit tmaxx hubs, but no they wont then, nevermind.

did u say ultra lx shafts will work on the swift too? im forming an idea in my head... (Time Bandits anyone? sorry...)

didnt take mine out today due to excelling in the hide the alcohol games last night... but i did tidy up a few odds and ends and took some new pics for my gallery bit on here. hopefully i will hold back a bit tonight, and go get it dirty tomorrow, i must remember to glue those tyres on...

I'm not sure about the LX shafts but the MBX shafts are the same length. I only looked at buggy's with the pillow ball front suspension.
The front shafts on pretty much all of the buggy's with pillow ball suspension are within a couple of mm's of each other.

The RD Logics SHO buggy is the same thing as the PRP Swift.

Yeah mate, those wheels suit that truck down to the ground (literally!). The blue and gold aint too bad either, I've seen far worse believe me. I know there is never really such a thing as 'finished', but that truck must be near a stage where it is looking and running as you would like? Is there another project looming?

Middle diff truck? Resurrect the 4 wheel steer project? Maybe something completely different like a buggy or truggy?

yea, ill sort the centre diff one day... bored of spending money on the things for now. maybe a truggy in the future, but after todays run on the beach, im not sure i need anything else.

i keep loosing the 4wd tho... the rear centre drive cup keeps working off the shaft - yep threadlocked and tightened the grub screw as hard as i can... ill swap the shaft for a spare... maybe... its a lot of fun in 2wd, i just miss the front brake. but keeping it straight is erm... interesting.

those komodos work great on untouched hard, smooth sand, but once its all fluffed up from donuts etc and it gets loose, then they are rubbish, quite frankly! until then tho they turn really sharp, dont grip too hard and let me get the truck loose for some fun sand blasting of the local nosey kids. what i really need is some slightly longer pinned/spiked tyres that are low profile like the komodos. brilliant on the dirt tracks here tho, no complaints at all.

did i mention that this thing is fast...? ran today with the 14/18 cen steel bell... cant wait to see if it will pull 17/21 or even 21/25 genesis pinions... lol, it might, it might...

finally broke it tho, just pulled a rear tie bar screw out of the diff casing, was getting too dark anyway, so i bailed out. oh, i put some new shafts in the rear today too. the cen cv end is starting to show signs of wear now from the sand etc, as soon as they fail im going over to Rollands shaft mod/swap.

I am working on something that might solve your problem mate. The GS crown gears fit very nicely on the Savage diff cases. If the GS bevel gear will fit through the CEN diff housing/bulkhead, we may have a way of fitting 1:8 diffs and drive cups through a CEN housing. May all be down to the bearings fitting though. I'll keep you updated on how it goes.

sounds good mate, hopefully the cen cvs will last long enough for u guys to find a few options for buggy shafts for me... im hoping to do it on the cheap... pah, well i can try.

right im off away for a week, so no pic spamming from me for a bit, not a holiday, qualifications for new job in non-destructive testing... hey it will make a change from my normal approach... wish me luck, if i fail these exams its £1k down the can!

im impressed... no... no - im amazed...

bit quiet innit?

had a little run with the 14/18 bell on today - bloody freezing it was too, spit test was all i had, hope all is ok for summer etc - it pulls the 14/18 no problem at all. cant wait for the associated bells to arrive, from the US, cos its cheap, but xmas post seems to be holdin em up, so then i can try the 17/21 pinions and see how they go.

i forgot to take the buggy wheels today tho, it gets the best grip with those on... bugger. but ive the choice of working or not working this week , so i might just have to try em out - its a good bit quicker on the brick pins for sure, a bit of traction might add some more pace to it...

whats the score with these here ARO stickers? i may be a home owner, but it doesnt make me an adult - i need stickers! (pics of DrHs towers now in my gallery...)

can u get RCU stickers too? how about some CEN stickers? The CEN drivers must have a few spares lying about...?

oh and cheers scouser, i passed the course, im now a qualified welding inspector... how facinating lol

rambling over, wine drunk, vice versa, bed.

ps - Ill pay postage, Doc...

Congratulations mate. Whilst this thread has been quiet, I tried the diff merging thing. Its really close but I just dont have the right bearings to fit the crown gear side of the diff and the GS drive shafts are slightly longer than the HPI ones meaning the neck of the shaft is rubbing on the cross shaft inside the diff. I am trying to solve it but I am running out of possibilities fast. The most frustrating bit is that the CEN diff housing/bulkhead will fit perfectly![:@]

any pics scouser? sounds like u have just dumped nearly all the cen transmission. [8D]

does it all mesh up ok, gear wise, apart from the shaft rubbing? and as for that rubbing, cant u just grind a bit off the shaft - or am i misunderstanding the prob?

oh and what size bearing do u need - im guessing its a somethingx15x4?

I'll post some pics up later, Chrimbo shopping today[], you are right about the CEN drivetrain though, I am trying to fit a four gear diff with larger drivecups so as to allow the use of buggy shafts and to make the diffs 'bombproof'. If I can get it to work, I will be able to use the Maximizer diff casings, HPI four gear diff mod and GS spiral cut crown and bevel gears and either HPI or GS drivecups. The whole thing will be very strong and much more efficient.

So in other words there wont be anything much that is Cen....that about sums up the truck really...a low priced truck that is just not built to mix it with the big boys.......in other words a GREAT platform for those who like to MODIFY...
No offence to Cen but I really hope the Magnum holds up better or we just wasted a lot of time finding the weak spots on the MT2.
If people out there really want to stick with Cen then I say go for the Genesis, or the new Nemesis.

ok, now thats just shocking talk that is, terrible, really unfair i would say. i mean its not as if, for example, the pinions are that poor that u get an ebay item of number.... say... oo i dunno maybe 6023923718 whereby someone just got plain sick of em and dumps the lot...

i doubt that they would even be selling other cen bits at the same time for knock down prices... or hard to get bits for inflated prices...

merry christmas all.

An HPI Savage!! Only kidding. Is it the wheel nut or the stub axle that has had its thread wrecked? If its the M4 nuts then the hardest decision is which colour to get. If the stub axles are stripped, the hardest thing will be paying for a new set. I only hope you are replacing the drive cup only rather than the complete cvd. Where you running dogbones?
