I'm suffering from flight withdrawal. I flown in 3 days. I may give it a shot today, but have some significant wind. It seems wrong to fly a picco when it's sunny out.

Is there anything different about newer AA jets? I got 2 AA jets for Christmas, and they flew way better than my last one that I can remember. as soon as I let go of it, it goes up, sometimes more than I would want. it seems like there is more lift in it. It may just be me being paranoid.

anyways, from past AAs, i have not thrown away anyone completely. I have 3 spare Lipos, 2 spare props, 1 spare (working) motor, and 2 spare receivers. anything I could do with anything, they are just gathering dust. I also have 1 complete AA 1 AA with no lower wings (they got lost when I cut them off) and 1 complete AA jet. Anything I could do?

Beyond fly them? Have you tried the single stir stick mod? Hot glue gun and a couple of coffee stir sticks/straws and you'll have a plane that flies completely different. Check the mods page for more info on that. In fact just check the mods page, if you want to build other craft from your gear it might be there. I have been considering buying a plane body from plantraco to put the aa gear on. Or you could sell them. I have some interest in all of that.

Thanks for the help. I could also rebuild them. where could I find 1 receiver, 5 motors, and 2 replacement fins. Or, if possible, is there a place that you can buy them completely assmebled?

msim, someone on this thread said that he used zip-zap motors. For a tail, try foam dinner plates. RX's are held dear. Good luck, Tim

Neuro,

After getting the amp draw on the Cloud Cruiser..............
I'm sure it will be below 4.3A the Mosfet can handle, but be sure to do the Power calculaton.
The Mosfet can handle 1.2W max safely, above that can and will cook it.
Don't want to see you deep fry a good modded Rx.

Thanks Tony. I tried hooking up an amp meter but all i managed to do
was drain the motor till it stopped. At the risk of ruining the Cloud Cruiser
and the modded AA Rx I'm chucking the whole idea. Not worth it when
I can use some N20s.

I noticed also that the later jets I purchased also climbed better.
Upon taking them appart I found no difference in the Rx or the
placement of the lipo. All I could think of is that after stamping
the foam body, slight differences in the warping of the surfaces
must have occured.

As for the extras, if you have enough for another complete plane...
build one.

I just purchased my AHAA jet yesterday and after reading some tune up tips I decided to move the battery fowrad to reduce the porpoising. However now the thing won't run. It only turns on if the charger is hooked up to the plane and the jet is in the on position and the charger is in the power position.. Even then the rudders cut on and off depending on the throttle position. If I turn the plane off and the tx is in the charge position , the green charge light does NOT turn on. I've looked to see if i spliced a wire but everything seems good. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Jason, the aero ace jet does not have rudders. That is why I'm wondering which plane you have. Tim

Hi All, I just made the best night flyer I've ever had. I got some of tony's LEDs and a couple of his rubber motor mounts. I should say that I aquired these bits of gear at different times. I'll post this more in a moment, I want to add pic's. tim

OK, here is what I did, I used Tony's(megabyte 2) led s and motor mounts to create a great night flyer. Tony does not sell the motor mounts for the lights(LED's) he sells them for motors. I happen to have motors and motor mounts from Tony. I also had a set of LED's from Tony(mega byte 2). I spent some time soldering everything together and figuring out how to make it work, almost all of this is covered on tony's web site(I had it on screen the entire time I was doing this mod). What is not on Tony's site is using the motor mounts to hold the LEDs. I ran the LEDs for the wings out to the spar area. But I needed somthing I could glue down after I got past the mock up stage. I tried out a motor mount and it fit like a glove. I'm posting some pic's now, but if questions linger please ask.

Tim,

That's a very cool way to mount the LEDs. I can honestly say I never gave that a thought. Great for those who don't want to try and bury them in the wing. It would be hard to do if you were using 2mm Depron or balsa. Your idea solves that problem and the mounts are extreemly lightweight.
I don't have the mounts listed on the website right now, but I can still get them if anyone wants any.

Nice Job!

That looks good Tim.
It looks like the lights come on when you turn on the RX switch.
Does powering up the motors effect the LED's?

Nope, I bypassed the motor circuit entirely. Power is connected to the battery, ground at the switch. I used wrapping wire instead of the enameled wire Tony mentioned, because I had it. The entire rig weighs about 2.5g. The LEDs I used are as follows: Nose 7000 mcd white flamethrower, Wing Ultrabright 3000 mcd red and green.

On a more somber note, the battery in the original 2 stick plane shorted last night. It only lasted about 3 monthes, at an average of 3 flights a day.

Hi All,

The connection method used for the LEDs on an AA Rx should be:

Positive LED(long lead) to a 100ohm resistor to lipo +.
Negative LED(short lead) to power switch "on" pad.

The LEDs will work when the Rx is on and won't vary with throttle settings. The 3 LEDs Tim used will reduce the flight time by about 1 - 1 1/2min. with no loss of power during flight. No extra load is placed on the output transistors. A second switch could be installed so the LEDs could be turned off during daytime flying, or a small plug could be added.
There is a nice line drawing in the doc for those not familiar with electronics, schematics, symbols and such.
Also, is a new doc of foam weights by manufacturer. If you have some not listed, please submit!

I'll do a true maiden flight tonight. If someone is around I'll ask them to take a couple of pics. I just maidened the replacement for the orange 2 stick. Great flight, but when I was installing the stir sticks I was off by a lot, nearly 1/16". Also there was a lot more glue hair on the plane. It flew great though. I wonder if siverlit/spinmaster switched factories. Given their sense of timing a factory change causing a lack of product before christmas makes sense. We can assume that the marketing guys are second banana at spinmaster.

Tim

Tony, the leads on the red LED were of equal length. There was a red dot on the ground side. I used a 4 "aa" battery pack to verify polarity. Also, are the leads coated with solder? It appeared that way while I was assembling the rig. Tim

I was just at Target and they had an Air Hogs Acro-Jet with canards for 29.99. The controller looks identical to the aero jet/bipe but I heard the circuit board inside is different so you cant use the current bipe/aero jet turning mod on it.

How does it fly compared to the aero jet or bipe?

A kid snagged it right as I was going for it!! I should of grabbed it and ran...

Looks like I'll be hitting every Target in town tomorrow... AGAIN (just hunted for the bipe a few weeks ago)

I see one on ebay also but can't find any real info on it.

Finished the frame up on the tailess bipe. I had posted some plans
here a couple of months back and finally got around to building it.
Wing span of both wings is 13" and will give me about 45 sq in wing
area total.

smitty71,

The AA Jet has the same Tx & Rx as the bipe. The Jet motors are a little longer and have more rpm and torque than the bipe.
No other differences.
If you are buying one to hack, I prefer the jet due to the more powerful motors. IMO
