Did you guys have to widen your sheeting too...? My top sheeting was slighly too narrow for a proper fit in some places...
I also noticed on the pics on the CD that Alex widened his sheeting slightly too.

RE: AKM SU-27 Flanker-Does Look Good

Yep the sheeting by the back fins are just off a tic and will need to added in ... it was the same way on the the MIG as well ... I also found that when you line up the stab to be flush with F8 that the back of the stab does not meet with F9 ...seems to be short by 1/16" all the way across ....after double checking that the formers are right on to the plan and that the stab was flush to F8 I had to add to it so it would marry to F9 ...Hmmmmm ooooh well.

I had to splice on another 1/8" or so on both of the top deck sheeting on the MiG29. I haven't started the SU yet, so I can't speak for that kit.

Blade!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just looked at the pic you posted... I see you haven't sanded your "center fuse" yet...

Do it now before you start sheeting!!!!!!! Or there will be hell to pay later... It takes a lot of sanding, and if you can't get to it properly it will be a horrible job to do...

I "believe" that tick I see in your picture belongs by the front of the vertical fin

Yep thanks Rudeboy ... I was just test fitting the sheeting and I mark the sheeting to side of the fuse before I start to sand :D makes for a nice fit.

You may want to do what Don ( this is Dons picture from the MIG build) and I did on the MIG aft sheeting ... put 1/16 x 1/8" shelf around the inside for the sheeting to rest on ... keeps it from pushing in ;)

I threw the unfinished wings on and the canopy to see how this is looking. Fuse is a Charcoal Metallic and the wing will be gray near the fuse and white toward the outside

Rust Oleum with a Glosss clear coat over it. It came out okay.

Snoop... I see you did not cover the "engine humps" at the back of the plane... looks kinda weird with those cutouts visible...[X(]

Snoop! Q for you ---- the sheeting for the LEX ...did you fill in the gap between the fuse sides and the LEX sheeting? I had look at Alex's SU and looks to me that he did not ... seems to be unfinished that way.

And by chance do you ( or anyone reading this) know what the air pressures reading should be on the spring air 101HD air tank when it is full?

I have a answer to my second Q from Spring Air and for others that want to know. :D

"We run our retracts between 80 to 90 psi. You can go higher but we find
the air lines start to come off the fittings.

I sanded a "bevel" type angle their to make it flush with the side of the fuselage, Then ran down the line of it with that balsa filler stuff

I did that someplace else too. I think it was the ailerons.

Blade47 02-16-2005 08:55 PM

RE: AKM SU-27 Flanker-Does Look Good

Cool ---- what I did was sheet the top of the ailerons with 1/16" and sheeted all of the wings as well as it is hard to cover in two tone color.

I finished the wings and started the fuselage yesterday. I'll post the mods required to use oleo's as I go once I figure out how to post pictures! Has anyone flown their su-27 yet?

Mike, hit reply in this box (not the one at the end of the thread). You'll see "Click here to upload" in the lower left of the reply box. You can then upload up to 4 pictures from your harddrive as long as the aggregate size of all the pics you post is less than 3 meg.

After it finishes loading (may take a while depending on your connection speed) it will say it was successful. Close the box and hit "OK" and you're all done.
