we have build over the years a number of Royal/Marutaka kits. The last two by my sons, Abram, a Zero (foam/fibreglass fus), powered it with a Saito 65, flew great till it snapped at the top of a loop. For a younster that was to just much, and also too low. We since rebuild it, but it is a bit heavy ( now extra weight in the nose), you need to watch it on slow speed. The other is a Stuka which the Hans, the younger brother build about 3 years ago. Different to the Zero this flys well. It is very light, Monokote and painted in some places, fly it with a 1st generation OS 90 FS, 13X6 prop.I made a jig fot the wing, it has about 4 deg washout. After many landings, the spats always tend to become loose (normally from from grass). We are about to try another way of fixing them. I have never seen him tip stall it, but we are very weary of those small tips, and always keep the speed up.

Microavionics, thanks for the photos. The quality of build/finish looks excellent, particularly considering Monokote (and I am pretty good with the stuff)! Feel free to post more pics. Did the young men do most of the construction? Really good work, and nice to see them flown!

Fabfal, sorry about the landing...get er fixed! You might find a canopy on Ebay? Glad you didn't keep it as a hangar queen, sounds like you took her straight to the field...more courage than I!-Eric

Thank you Eric for the encouragement ! I have been unlucky. I was trying to land but a strange roll to right didn't allow to go straight. On the final from a wrong direction the model has accidentally banged into the windsock ( that's really placed in a not appropriate position very close to the runway!!!!) landing up side down and destroying the canopy and damaging the up side of the fuse. Already begun to repair!!!. shortly on the field again. As you say, the aircraft aren't done to remain in the hangar....even if you have spent much effort to build them with love!!!

I'm just thinking of my future model. It will be a bucker jungmeister 1/3 scale and I'll probably go mad mounting a 7 cylinder OS sirius 420 radial four stroke engine ( just now verifying the compatibility!!).

About the canopy of citation.....Vince, by us wings, has already provided one. Thanks to all for the suggestion ( I forgot for a moment that the plans and the canopy had been supplied by him)
Hope to send everybody the video of the flight ( next....right!!!) in a couple of weeks ( if the canopy arrives with no delay by usa!!!)

Love the spirit Fabrizio (and gladly you're not "Fabio")! Great idea on the Bucker Jungmeister, one of my favorites. I think Dave Platt did a nice rendition decades ago. I may have the RCM magazine it was in. Check the RCM plans list, and you'll maybe find one of the best Bucker plans ever, for sure. I might want to build one of those too (okay, so little time). Sorry all to talk of non-Royal kits. It happens that there are certainly far better designs out there than Royal if you research (duh...winning). That said, this thread has a foundation of it's own which is valid. I do hope people here recognize that Royal/Marutaka isn't being worshiped out of outright quality and supremacy at all (but of course).....we just like them in the way Star Trek fans like the "old series".

Just the plan I have. The scale of the original Dave Plat plan is 1:4. I have enlarged it to 1:3 scale. 86.6 inchs WS. The reason is to have the right space to mount the Sirius Motor.
I agree with you about our love for Royal Marutaka models but this can't stop us to realize that there are some other fantastic ones to be remembered.

we are not really kit builders, mostly Marutaka really, and that was limited to the Citation, Cessna skymaster 337, Piper Colt ( these were all for people who wanted them, I never flew them) The Zero (saito 65), Bearcat (saito 65), Stuka (os 90 fs) are in our home hangar. Hans build a Auster AOP9 from the Airsail kit (fist flights saito 65, now chamged to Webra 49 rotary valve) .

Riddle4u: The Stuka was 90% built, 100% covered, 10% painted by Hans, the dark green camoflage was masked (Hans)and painted on the Monokote be me, The Zero, with the foam wing and FG fus was 100% build, 100% covered (fin, stab and wing), 50% painted by Abram. I spray painted the fus with an automotive 2 part paint, matched to the gray monokote.

The planking job looks excellent! I trust it is still straight and true afterwards (that is the real test). I think it looks like it will sand down beautifully! I didn't use as many narrow planks as you in the past....and honestly don't know which is best. I try to use fewer planks, but that may not be the best. It doesn't look like much if any filler will be needed for you. Good job it looks like to me. Happy Sanding!!

Long time, no read. Glad to see these fabulous kits are still getting built. Glad and sad. The really sad thing for me is that while it has taken a long time I have finally admitted to myself that I am not going to continue in this hobby. I have always enjoyed building more than flying but the reality is that I do not really have the space required to dedicate to a proper build hobby, even if I had the time. My sadness may be some of you guys' fortune though. I have a small collection of kits. I will keep a few to build maybe later and the rest I simply must let them go. The next truly difficult task for me is to decide which ones I can part with. Most of these were purchased at high prices so do not get your hopes up for potential give aways. A little ebay browsing shows that prices have been fluctuating with some at lower prices than I paid - not great news for me, eh? I have not committed myself to anything yet, so this is probably just me whining in public about giving up the hobby. Enough rambling. I am posting here because I know there are people here who will actually build some of these. So I may offer them on RCU and not ebay. Now, the reveal, I have;

Wow, for someone that loves model airplanes so much that they have accumulated an unbuilt airforce to say "I am not going to continue in the hobby" is a heart-stopper for me. Is that even possible? Well, I think you came to the right place to unload them, if that is indeed the case (still can't believe it). Is there a woman involved? Kidding. Thanks for giving us all the "right of first refusal" , in a sense! I would need therapy if I came to a point of getting out of the hobby...ha ha!

Yes, it was a difficult decision to make. You could say there was a woman involved but it goes much deeper. There was a time where it seemed okay and reasonable to spend a couple of $k times a whole bunch of models. I mean, it still seems okay, but some years ago I went from six figures then five then none and along the way my RC fire kind of went out. And other fires are burning brighter. I need to convert these boxes of balsa into one of my other hobbies, like tubes in audio gear. I have a small fleet of Sig and BTE kits too, but that is another topic in another forum section, eh? Actually, I will probably keep and build the BTE kits. What I will not do is spend a year on each obsessing on scale details like I would with the Royal kits. If I plow in with a Delta Vortex it would not be nearly as hard on my psyche as it would be with a tricked out Zero or Lightning.

So trust me, they are going. I may keep one or two, but they are definitely going. They lazy bum in me has a fantasy that I will get offers I cannot refuse without having to go through with the work of making proper adds. I will get started on the detailed inventory this weekend.

I've been working on a Royal kit for a P-38 that I bought in 1985. It's like putting a jigsaw puzzle together. The kit is well engineered, and although very good drawings, the plans don't coordinate too well. The pics show it ready to paint.

That model looks well built in general. I do notice that the left wing looks to have very slight negative twist (a minor warp). I can't tell for sure from the pics, but that is always an issue with these models. It just seems to look that way slightly...who knows.

I do hope Klaatu can get decent bids from our thread here. Don't low ball him too much! If I was flush, I'd make some offers.
