All -
I've been quietly watching all of this GREAT work in the background for a couple of years now, utilizing many of your fabulous tips and insights, and now that I have retired and moved to FL, I plan to FINALLY finish my TF Corsair. It's been at the point of sheeting completed for over a year now, I've got the tail doors cut and installed, but am having trouble with the operating mechanism. Looked at CIMARA's method and I think I'll be going with that. (Now if I can just rig a small L-bracket to mount those ball links...) Next will be the main doors. Plan to try my hand at glassing using water-based urethane and finishing with latex. Powering with a 53cc twin and hope to do scale exhaust stacks.
Is it too late to join the Brotherhood? As a bribe (?) I've got lots of decent pictures of the Corsair hanging in the Udvar Hazy museum in DC...
;-)

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Hi Guys,
I was scanning thru the pages so I could bookmark the thread,I can remember when this thread was on page 1, and for the longest time.I guess every thread has it time & place. I think it only to bad to see that we are on page 5. Sure would be nice to see more activity in the thread.
Just drop in and let the guys know who's who and who's doing what to their birds. Just like to see some activity here.
George

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Ok George.
To all Due to some med problems that have developed over the last 12 months or so, I just can't justify taking my 2 warbirds out. But the little flying I have done has been with a 20 year old beeter.
As for the med problem there is some hope and with some therapy I may just get back in the game.
cheers Bob T

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
good news
just got out of mike barbee shot up here in Columbus Ohio
learned so much on just starting my TF corsair this is going to be so much fun every weekend over to mikes an getting pointers on how to build this top notch corsair john i cant remember his last name but was top gun winner from last yr let me now about what to do an not to do about this kit he has built so many corsair kits an likes this TF kit so today they showed me how to round the leading edges of my elevator stab an rudder how to round out the hing points an add a 1/64 piece of play wood mike did on side of my elevator an i was just to mirror it to the other side thanks mike we are going to fiberglass the plane to get the best pain effect an the real corsair have cloth elevators an ailerons you have to sand the edges down to a point on the tailing edge cause when add the cloth it will be all bunched up so it has to be to a point also he showed me how to round out my rudder to make it more authentic mike is having a show at our field in July or June next yr an hope to have the 86 inch beat in it wish me luck

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
by the way i asked if it was a good idea to drill holes to lighten the weight an they said strait forward NO unless i wanted to take care of the extra work it shouldn't need the holes an it was at mike barbees shop in his basement
the place rocks

Naaa it's just not enough guys building any more. and most young guys don't want to take the time to learn to build as you know this is not a beginners kit.
I dob't know mike Barbees, but I would just say every ounce you save in the tail section is 6 ounces less weight in the nose, and with the lighter engines than a G-62 you will be supprised at the added dead wieght you will have to add to get the C/G rite.
Please post pic's of your progress, and if you have questions ask.
Cheers Bob T

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Glad to see this thread is still going. Haven't flown my Corsair at all this year for one reason or another. Anyway, as the previous post stated, it seems that ARF's are what people are using now. Anyway, I still follow this thread and pick up new ideas along the way.

Hi Guys, I don't really have anything to add of any value to the thread here, but just wanted to say thanks to those of you who've taken the time to post advice and photos. Here where my project stands at 5 weeks.
Kit Mods: I've airfoiled the tail feathers and plan on having the outer wing panels removable much like the arf version.
