Michael, how did you break the shaft? I don't want to do the same thing on my DLE 35.

Thanks
Rich
Hi
I broke the shaft , by applying a flat screw drive to bend the servo arm ,................... instead ,..... the shaft broke

But ,.................. I am good with my hands ,.......................... I repaired it

I drilled the center of the shaft .070 , retaped for a 2/56 . Reinstalled the broken shaft . Useing green locktite , I installed the plate ( makeing sure the notch , in the plate was just over the idle port ) . I installed the broken shaft with the 2/56 allen bolt to the proper length , useing again , green lock-tite . It won,t come apart . On the bad side ,......................... I cann,t take it apart either . It,s there for ever

Green lock-tite , doesn,t come apart .

I was lucky

I have a DLE35. I looked mine over and as you said it is stamped DLE30 next to the choke plate.

I also happen to have a replacement carb for a DLE30 which I ordered through Tower Hobbies. I just compared it to the one on the DLE35 and they are identical in shape and have the same markings. It looks to me that the carb that comes with the DLE35 is the same as a replacement carb for a DLE30.

Mike
Hi Mike

Would you mind measureing the diameter of the interior of the carb . Although it might say DLE-30 , the bore size might be different .

Thanks guys

It is the same. The DLE30 replacement carb and the carb that came with the engine both measured 15.80mm (.622 in) diameter. Both were measured from opposite side of the choke plate where carb mates to the reed block housing. A complete DLE30 carb from Tower was about $35.00.

Hi Mike

Thanks for youre reply , very kind of you .

In this thread , and other forms , and from dealers , they are not the same . But the info that you have given me , says that they are the same . Even , one dealer told me that the bore was not the same .

It,s very hard to believe what is true , and what isn,t .[]

Hi
I have finally finished installing the DLE-35RA , into the 120 size Zero . With the angled plug , it did take a little time to think it out . It is most certainly , a cleaner fit . as you can see for youre self , I have modified the lowwer cowl to get air to the cylinder . I know it,s not scale , but is most certaily practical . It,s got a little bit of that P-40 look . Just look at it as an experimental , Japanese test plane .

I deffinatly like the fit of this engine .

A 35cc in a 1.20 size plane probably qualifies as a test plane.

It is nice to get feedback on what solved a problem. A short while back I outlined my friend having dead sticks with his DLE-35 and requesting suggestions. He started with the simplest first and changed the plug to an NGK and no more dead sticks.

Much appreciation for the help.

The defective plug is an enigma. The new series of DLE engines have great upgrades like rear exhausts, angled plugs, ignitions that take up to 12 volts, longer throttle arms and choke rod guides cast into the side of the engine but they still include a throw away spark plug. Only a few of the venders, like Valley View RC, toss the stock plug and give you an NGK CM-6.
I figured the defective spark plug would go away when Hobbico became a major player.

Have flown several flights on the DLE35RA on a known test bed. I was running the Xoar 19x10 laminated woodie but a slight prop strike chipped the tips and the prop is down for repairs.

First impressions:

Great field manners; simple 1 or 2 flip starts, every time, after choking. Choking is simple too Ignition OFF, full throttle, choke ON...I rock the spinner back and forth 6-7 times. StartingChoke off, throttle to idle, Ignition ON, flip prop.

Vibration level seems lower than the PTE36R or the OS33GT, although I have it soft mounted as I do all my small gassies

I'm using a full header from MACS PRO, for the OS140RX, and I'm trying carbon canister from ESComposites. Very very quiet operation. Very clean throttle response without the characteristic jump on the pipe at 4K rpm.

The 19x10 worked fine on pipe and now worked fine of the canister except around 450 rpm lower than the pipe. Since I broke the woodie last flight, just switched to the 18.5 x 9.5 wide bladed APC. This is a much better prop than the XOAR but is60 grams (2 ozs) heavier. Even quiter operation; and throttle response is actually a little better

Using standard mix (same mix I use on all gassies, for break in and normal operation), Avgas with 50:1 BelRay MC1...And please, I'm not interested in ANY gas or oil arguments; that's whatI use, end of story and as always, YMMV

Thanks for the comments. I have a DLE 35 to put on a BUSA 1/4 scale SPAD XIII, based on you review I think it will be great.

Thanks

Built a GP super sportster for a fellow club member with limited space and he used this engine. Has a 20x8 APC and has been nothing but great. Starts easy, runs and transitions great, and has not had a single dead stick. Has better power than the 30. I have 3 of those. And it being a rear exhaust made it a perfect choice for myH9 150 Mustang. I have it installed but am waiting on a new miracle switch and batts to come. I will be running an xoar ww2 20x8 prop. The plane came in at just under 15 pounds, it is going to be a rocket. All my dles get a ngk plug. The dle one is bad.

Woot! My 35 is on the way.
DLE35RA with CM-6 plug, a switch and a RCEXL kill switch plus a $40.00 discount. Great deal.

+1 for the DLE 35RA.  Its currently pulling around my ESM hellcat.  Great performance.  Its still just getting broken in with about 12 tanks thru it.  A couple flights ago I had to adjust the settings for the top end throttle.  Even more power now YIPPEEE!!!

Does everyone else have this muffler or is this something new? I purchased this from Valley View.

Tower Hobbies...with the super saver coupon, it cost $300 with free shipping. Reasonable and probably better than most. The 10$ membership has more than paid for itself over the past 12 months. It's worth a good look if one is planning to buy some equipment in a year's span.

If any one is interested, I have a NIB muffler for the DLE35RA. I don't use the stock units since I use pipes and cans on my set-ups. Contact me direct to my email addy below.

In fact I am currently evaluating several canisters for Ed Skorepa of ES Composites. These are gorgeous carbon canisters, very very quiet. So far none have been tuned canisters meaning no jump in rpm was noted. But the R&D has just started.
