I get 8-900rpm over the stock muffler with an ES Carbon pipe on a DLE 20.

Regarding the OS 33..... If I could afford one of those, I'd have one as well. They sound like real torque monsters.
On affordability. I use the Tower Super Saver, $60 on items over 300. That brings the price down to $360 with free shipping usually. That ain't bad.... I have 4 of 'em. It's the only one I have multiples of and the first one I paid full price for; it was worth it!
From what I've head, the OS 33 is definitely a winner! but they gatta work on a better stock muffler.

Tower has the 50 dollar off on 300 most of the time. During Xmas time frame they sometimes off the 60 dollars off deal. The 300 for 50 off and below is the best they offer most times. they do offer moeny back on orders up to 2500 dollars but it isnt very good deal unless your item fits in that price range. I dont fly futaba so I will never use the 2500 dollar offer.

I buy all of my engines from Tower for this reason as well. Including my four DLE 20s and two DLE 30s.

In fact just received Tower's Super Mailer. There's an extra $20 discount on the DLE35RA and OS GT33 if I recall. Couple that with the $50 off coupon and you have a pair of pretty decent deals. Free shipping too; I must say, I'm not particularly fond of Tower's policies for certain things (service is one big one)but when I see this kind of deal brewing, Tower becomes much more acceptable...It's a business after-all

Do we know if it's thinner? My stock muffler is very close to my firewall on my H9 P-51 1.50.

Dave

Just answered my own question by calling B&B... their's is 1 1/8" thick. The stock one is about 1 5/16"

Bennett mufflers are made of aluminum castings so won't shake apart like the stock muffler.
It has a smaller cross section than the stock muffler and the exhaust tubes are threaded.
They sell replacement tubes if you need them.
Some engines can lose a few RPMs but this isn't true of all engines.
They are loud but that is of no concern to me.

Guys,

What is the recommended prop range for this motor? I have it mounted on an RC Guys 1/4 scale Super Decathlon with a auw of 18 lbs. Also, I have been told to run it in on a 32:1 mix using stihl oil and then run it at 40:1 after break in. Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Paul

18-8 to 20-6 .....I'm using an 18.5x9.5 W apcand 19x10 xoar on mine. Both work about the same in terms of thrust except the apc is much quieter.....

There are several good oils one can use. Stihl Ultra is fine. You may want to read some of the recommendations by some of the more experienced users in the too many oil threads. The only thing I would suggest, get one of the good synthetic ones and stay with it for 20 gallons to really learn how it works for you

Matt thanks.

I was told by a so called expert to use Lawnboy Ashless oil at 32:1. And yet by another expert extolls the virtues of Amsoil!! I have heard several people including Valleyview RC where I purchased the motor to run it on Stihl Ultra. There are just so many varying opinions regarding what is best. Some say run her in at 40:1 and others still say no no run her in at 32:1. And of course the Chinese instruction book which is Spartan at best, well you can see where a newbie would be somewhat overwhelmed.

I'm sorry but this is driving me nuts. When are people ever going to learn there is no such thing as "What is best". Why do you think some people like Chevy and others, Ford. Or why some people say apple pie is best and others say cherry. Or what brand of oil is best and at what mixture. Can't you understand that there will never be agreement on "What is the best......whatever".

I get so sick of people always asking what is the best brand of radio ,battery, engine, or fill in any other product you want, questions.

Now excuse me while I take a Xanax and try to calm down. By the way, is that the best thing for calming down?

So moving forward, maybe you could use the advice you've already been given best by assuming those you've asked really do know what they are talking about, and assume that you could expect good results using any of those oils suggested? Or maybe make your choice between them based on price and availability at places you already frequent?

I've found "best" is very seldom, if ever, necessary. Concentrating on "what works" much more worthwhile.

Well, Wayne Apostolico, former owner of Don's Hobby Shop, recommemded the Lawnboy many years ago to me. It was back in the mid 90's and the engine was a BME twin and my first gas engine, so I used what Wayne recommended. It worked well enough at 32:1 as I recall. I sold everything and went back to glow fairly quickly since it was such a PITA to work with a 1/3 scale model (hauling the crate, working on itand storing it were problems). Really good smaler gassies had not been invented yet.

About 15 years later, 2009, I came back to gas and haven't looked back to glow. The first smaller gassie was the Syssa 180 and Todd Syssa was using the Amsoil Sabre Pro at 85:1. I didn't use that oil or ratio; just was too lean for me. On advice from one of the best engine men around anywhere, Jersey Jim Martin, I went to the oil I use now, the same oil Jim uses and used in his racing motorcycles for decades. I use the same mix, 50:1, for break in and running after. It works great for me and have no plans to change.....

I bought the DLE35R too for my ESM Stuka. Is there a trick or any advice on how to best align it on the firewall?

Thanks for any help.

Once again thanks MTK I am sorry to have opened a can of ugliness with my questions. As far as what is best, who knows? Its anyone's guess Indio, I just prefer consistently the same answer you know word of mouth. What has happened here is simple. I bought the new DLE last summer and spent all winter building and prepping the plane for flight. My first gas engine by the way. My thoughts in making this post were simply that since I purchased the engine some time has elapsed and as such I believed that quite possibly the "preferred" oil and gas mix to use may of changed. Simply put, I was after what the current school of thought was on what oil to use and at what ratio to use it.

Here is what I have decided.

Break in engine on an 18x8 Xoar prop using 32:1 87 octane gas with no ethanol and the Stihl synthetic Ultra oil mix.

After break in, I may or may not adjust my prop, I will further research that on the rather extensive SD assembly thread. I will move the mix to a 40:1 using the same gas and the same oil.

This is loosely what Valley View recommended when I bought the engine. However, now I notice that they are suggesting 30:1 on the same motor they recommended 32:1 on not even a year ago. See how fast things change? is it any wonder these same questions are posed over and over?
