I raised my pants and I also cut a bit of material away from the rear of the pants behind the wheels so that the grass would not catch

Ooops! Did not intend to double post. JL1 that's what I'm going to do to the pants. Need to do some repair to the motor mount as it has come loose. but I will have it back in the air at some point. Jim

Jim I'm glad to see that there are still some of Adrian's planes being flown. My R-2 had the same nose over trouble. Grass fields were the worst. I discovered that the gear was the problem. It would flex enough to hit the wheel pants and cut into the tires. Not a good out come. cut the slot larger to the rear and it should help alot. I also packed the bottom of the spatz with stiff foam to help with side flex. I have been thinking about getting Robart to make some custom gear for mine. I'm repairing my first R-2 now. When I work out the bugs I'll start on the kit that I have put away and do a full detail on it. Don't be afraid of the plane, it flys FANTASTIC just work on the gear and practice 3 pointers and you'll be OK.

Dave, Thanks for the info. I was looking over the wheels and I think that the wheels moved foward up into the front of the wheel pants. Form a photo that was taken of my landing you can't see any tire, the wheel pants are scraping the pavement. So I'm ging to put a stop to limit the landing gear travel. Also I have also thought of foam to stabalize the pants. Jim

One other thing, there was a lot of damage done to the 1/8" plywood which would be the first bulkhead that the motor mount gets glued to, if I had though of it before I would have made this at least 1/4". I will have to repair this and make it stronger. Jim

Fwiw, be careful with any structural changes that increase weight. The secret to a good flying Gee Bee is keeping the weight off.

Just curious how the Z balances out with a Saito 56? I finally got around to working on mine after having it framed up for 4 years. Hopefully I can get it finished this year.

Wow, surprised this thread as seen so much activity as of late.

I've got one of Adrian's GB-Z's in the closet that I bought back in.. 2006/2007 or so, I was lucky to find one on ebay for a "reasonable" price so I jumped on it.

I've talked with Adrian in the past and he has mentioned the idea of making his plans available to one of the laser kit cutters, I'm not sure if he ever looked into that. It would be really amazing if he did, I would love to see these available again.

I'm not sure, but I imagine quite well since Adrian built one with the .56 and posted some thoughts on it on his page.
