RE: Page Aviation Kits
Yes this is Adrian Page's 1/4 scale. I had a BME 44 on hand so that is what I have mounted, this engine is a little lighter than a G26, also it will spin a 20 x 10 prop. I wanted as much prop blast as possible over the big cowl. Have not balanced it yet, but I did a quick check while taking pictures and I think that I will have to add nose weight. Jim

I am using Hitec HS635 HB for rudder and elevator, HS645 metal gear for the ailerons, 322HD for throttle, carbon fiber arrow shafts for push rods, 440 rods on ailerons, Spectrom AR9000 rx with two 6 volt 2150 nimh batteries on rx and one 4.6 volt nimh for ignition. Jim

Well here it is after 4 years. A friend of mine started this kit about four years ago and in January he asked me if I wanted it, answer YES!! It was all framed up so I did the finish such as covering it and painting, installing all the servos, ect. Maybe maiden it in about two weeks, if the wind will ever stop. Jim

The covering job is a mixture. When I got the plane the wing was done with Sig Koverall. I glassed the wood sheeting on the fuselage because the wood had become brittle. For the open strigers I used solar coat and auto primer then rustolium paint. Don't know what it weighs will do that after I balance it. For being as big as it is, it's not very heavy. Jim

Ok, today I balanced the Gee Bee R2 and it took 6 oz of nose weight not too bad! And using my wife's Weight Watcher's bath scale it came in at 16.6 lbs. Now I have to build a way to tranport it to the field. Jim

RE: Page Aviation Kits
Congratulations on your Page model build!
It's great to see Adrian's kits coming to life!
Adrian is just a great guy and an individual who honestly took a great deal of time producing fine kits.
I've built plenty of model kits, but the enjoyment I felt building Adrian's Gee Bee Z, was incredible, compared to other kit builds.
Adrian's Gee Bee Z kit went together as smooth as silk, in spite of the scale changes I elected to make.
Sure, I'd like to see more of Adrian's designs. His website is still active, and with a bit of luck, we'll see.

Thanks, it's great to see interest in the Gee Bee aircraft. Your build looks great, so when is the finish date?
I'm old and I don't have a lot of time.
I'm actually going CL with it. I have to decide if I want the ailerons working as reverse flaps, CL style.
Silk n dope for the finish. I will do all paint masks.

Ok! had no intrnet for a few days, but its back. No maiden flight Tuesday. My @%&$#& BME 44 would not draw fuel into the carb. After messing with it for a few hours at the field and all the help I got. I packed the Gee Bee up and came home. I extracted the BME and Wednesday installed a new Fuji 43. Have some work to do because everything is on the opposite side. Maybe two weeks. Jim

Fwiw, I have the 1/4 R-2 and it is a great flying model If you keep it light and set the cg where it belongs.
It can be tough to land without nosing over so I put Balsa spacers in the pants to be absolutely sure they could not flex into contact with the tire and that helped a lot

RE: Page Aviation Kits
Did the maiden flight on the GeeBeeR2 today July 19,2011. After pulling out the BME 44 engine, I installed a Fuji 43, with Jtech muffler, the Fuji was a few ozs liter. Was ready to go to the field three weeks ago but all open space areas around Albuquerque were closed do to the worst forest fires in the state of New Mexico ( where I live) and Arizona the smoke was very heavy here. We were given permission to fly again on Wensday. The Fuji pulled with plenty of power needed a little up and right trim. This plane flies great did all straight fly bys nothing fancy. Flies very fast and is hard to slow down for landing, and yes it nosed over on a few feet rollout. Got lots of pictures I will post later. Jim

Great!!!! Glad to hear all went well. Did you balance it to the plan spec? Hopefully no damage on the landing... Adrian says the R2 and the "Z" should be 3 point take off AND 3 point landed. This gives me some more incentive to start on mine. Can't wait for the pics. Appreciate the update! Get some video of that thing

Yes balance exactly how the instruction manuel tells you to. Here are some pictures and looking at pictures of my landing my wheels went up inside the pants that's why it nosed over. I guess I need to mount the pants with more wheel showing. Jim
