RE: Hangar 9 60cc Corsair
I have pretty much made my mind up on this model. I would love a radial engine but I wonder if the Evolution 7-77 is man enough. Anyone got an opinion on that point?
Any other opions for radials that would be right sized for this model?
I should point out that I know diddly squat about current IC engines as I have not owned one for over a decade.

I guess it depends on what one considers man enough. Did Horizon fly one at Joe Nal and isn't there a video of it etc?
Lots of guys think a warbird should fly like an indy car on steroids. Well as lovely as that might seem its not really so.. In 1942 the P-51 was evaluated doing 363 mph at 5000 alt. probably a little slower right on the deck.. so that's a decent rate of speed but not ballistic!

I agree with the sentiment BobH. I do not enjoy seeing a warbird climb out at a 60 degree angle right after take off, nor do I like seeing one accelerate like a drag car on the runway.
Some of the most scale flights I have ever down is with a plane that was slightly underpowered by our model standards. Now mind you, it does raise the pucker factor when you make that first turn out over the trees.

To each his own but this Corsair is not that big. A good 50cc engine is more than enough (MHO) for this plane. The airframes are not that heavy for a big jack hammer single and most twins wont fit. I know a GT80 wont, maybe a DLE60 which you can convert to 1/4-32 plugs with adapters and ignition mods. I think CRRC has 70" twin that is not as wide as the DLE60 due to angle plugs etc. Just thinking out load.

RE: Hangar 9 60cc Corsair
Hmm. My personal preference is to have any model at least a little overpowered. I have a throttle, and I do use it. Also having seen Corsair fly, I think any test pilot would have called it overpowered (delightfully so). It was a 400 mph aeroplane.
Like I said, I have not owned an IC engine in a long time and I have not kept current with them. But I have heard comments regarding the 7-77 that it is not as powerful as it may first suggest by it's size and displacement.
I have no interest in powering the model with any IC engine other than a radial.
I did look for the Joe Nall video but did not find it.

I shot stills not video but none of them looked like dogs to me, though none of them looked like pylon racers either, but if I wanted a pylon racer I would buy one.
If/when I get mine, I'll probably stick a G62 in it, they start every time and don't burn anywhere near the cost in glow fuel a radial would, nor do they make the mess.
Just my 2 cents.

I saw the evolution 77 radial fly it at the Nall and it looked good to me. It looked to be plenty of power on climbs and takeoffs, maybe more than some might like, but that is what they make a left stick for. I will probably go with the DLE 60. I know it is a bit wide but I believe with some work I can make it fit. I was a little concerned at the wing loading to begin with but after seeing them fly they looked to fly great.

I have one of the Seidel/UMS radials. It's the same as now imported by Horizon. I haven't had a chance to fly it but I did a test run. It sounds sweet!!
One of my buds has one in a Byron Corsair that's around 30lbs. It flies his plane very well. Really a perfect match.
So just spend the $ and get one and be more than happy

I think I have found the perfect match for this plane -Saito 84cc 3 cylinder radial GAS - I looked at the instructions online and could not find any dimensions.
Hope it fits - It shows a ship date of 6/30 .

Here is the squadron color that H9 chose - I found plane # 158 not #122 but close enough:
F4U-1D Corsair No.158 flown by Lt(jg) Lewis A. Maberry of VF-84, USS Bunker Hill, March 1945
5 Kills

Johno, Bill or Pete. Just ordered one from LHS. What is the firewall to prop distance for the Corsair 60cc? Many thanks. Sean

While I wish this one was in the 800-900 range I don't think it will go down. To much interest in it. And it has to many features. I will be getting one after I finish a few more projects. Dang, why did I ever get into warbirds. Lol
