RE: ASP/MAGNUM FS400AR Rebuild/Overhaul
If I may lighten the mood a touch I had another 100% problem free day flying the 400. Today we were up at about 26'c ( almost 80'f) with no wind and blue sky. The engine was no bother and seemed perfectly happy. Very pleased with its current level of performance

Gentlemen, I am back from Oberhausen and I have brought you a little something
It was a great meeting with over 100 outstanding Planes. I felt quite humbled with my "little" glow radial amids all thos Moki 150-250 Radials... They actually called me "cute" *hmpf*

RE: ASP/MAGNUM FS400AR Rebuild/Overhaul
I had two nice flights there but seeing those Mokis tear through the sky really made me feel a bit "underpowered" with the 400.
It flies the Gilmore well, I have enough power to get me out of trouble (see my Video) but its lacking that extra umph I would like.
Well, and then theres this Saito 450 lying here in a box. But its a bit too long for the Wedell Williams.
Do you also hate that uncontrollable urge to put a hacksaw to a perfectly flying modell...? Well it overcame me last night and...

Rev I get those urges sometimes!
Also its interesting what you say about feeling underpowered. I flew at a show over here a few weekends ago and I had the La7 up with similar size models (80-110 inch) and I felt very much like I was struggling to keep up. The real reason for this however was not that my model is underpowered, its that the other guys were all fly waaaay to fast and were not throttling their engines at all. That is the throttle stayed at 75-80% all the time. Now to me that's not good flying, but hey, theres not much I can do about it! It should be noted however that my 'little' 48cc glow fuel V twin 4 stroke (laser 300v) was having no trouble keeping up with models powered by 60-80cc two stroke petrol/gas engines. I just had to lean on my left stick a little harder than usual!
In other news I test flew my P39. All in all it was ok but I caught a bump badly on landing and there was nothing I could do to prevent it removing the nose leg for me. sigh. oh well

If my eyes don't deceive me, are those baffles slightly angled - rather than parallel to the centreline of the pots..??

I meant more along the lines that they aren't hard up against both sides of the pots - that the a bit more air gets though the gap created by the baffle being on an angle.

Hey Caro...
Take a peek
HK have 2 50cc Waribirds available in Aus now - the Trojan, and the Texan. Though, from what I've read so far, the ASP 400 won't fit in the Tex - only the T-28...

Oh... and I wasn't actually alluding to the prop itself (though that vario sure is a piece of pure horn ) - but more to the fact that the ASP 400 fits nicely into the new HK '50cc' Trojan

Now that the cats out of the bag... For those that want a real "wiff" of Oberhausen, check this out:

Quite some radials in there I LOVE the sound of the Moki on the YAK that comes right after my Gilmore.

Great hat Rev! lol, you seem to have a collection of interesting attire
BJ, I want a gearbox because then we can turn scale props at low rpm with the engine still singing away very happily at its optimum rpm. There is a guy in Norway running a 1.75:1 reduction on a Laser 200v and is turning a 24x12 3 blade prop at approx. 4200rpm which keeps the engine in the mid 7000's for rpm which is ideal. Unless we all go for super long stroke engines we do not have the torque for scale props unless we use a gearbox. most WW2 era engines were geared anyway, hence the huge props. Although the reasons for them gearing were as much to do with tip speeds but that's a story for another day

OMG they have a little r/c follow me jeep!! I want that!
Also it was interesting listening to the radial powered models as some sounded good (scale) and others did not. Either way, I am trying to convince my boss to let me go next year as it looks a lot of fun!

I would love to meet up at oberhausen. I will be there for the whole weekend again in 2014.
