the directions with the ext say to only use a 6 cell battery has anyone ran a 7 cell for a while now wiht out problem?

I dont own an EXT but you can run a 7 cell, just remove the foam thingy under the rear shock tower the 7th cell fits under it... only a odd shotgun style 7 cell can work, unless you want to mod the chassis and use straps.

I would get a 13T motor if your going to use 7 cells. A few people at my track use that ESC with no Problems. I'm going to get mine in a week or two with a 13T motor.

Hey guys,

Ok so instead of doing a nitro to electric conversion I did some trading with a local guy and got an old electric evader. It has the stock speed control and a "atomic force" 17 turn motor. Now its time to upgrade!!!
This is my first electric truck so im trying to learn as much as i can before I buy stuff. This is just going to be a basher so i dont want to spend too much......but i would like speeds in the 40's.

Im going to go to my LHS today to see if i can get the B2 diff and rings.

I know a lot has been posted here about motors and esc's. trust me....im going to read all i can

I have about 150 to spend on motor/esc. any suggestions?

get a brushless novak XBR 8.5 with 7 cells it should get 40 mph and it cost about 150 after the 25 dollar tower coupon... and NO MAINTENANCE, Great ESC for brushed motors too it has no limit.

heres the link..... 169.99 minus 25 tower coupon = 145$ cant get better than this

In my attempt to make my Evader as fast as it can possibly be (and to show I have too much time on my hands), I've come up with this:

I'm using an LRP 9 turn motor, mounted to a 35 tooth pinion - 78 tooth spur gear combo. I found a used Intellispeed 8T ESC on Ebay cheap (Ebay is great!). Re-did all the wiring using Deans WetNoodle. There is a huge voltage drop when I accelerate heavily (the ESC can't take it....it momentarily shuts off), so to combat the voltage drop, I added a BEC box (4AA batteries). It seems to have solved the problem; the Evader still accelerates fairly quickly for such a large pinion.

I don't know how fast it goes (wish I had a radar gun), but it is quite the road missile!

I've got a 70 tooth spur gear coming later this week. Surprisingly, the motor seems to be handling the gearing well. Hasn't gotten hot or anything.

The 35-tooth pinion, 78-tooth spur gear works well, but I think I can get a little more oomph out of it. I'm going to try another gear; a 20-tooth pinion, 81-tooth spur combo. The 35-78 combo ran fast, but took forever to get up to high speed.

Thanks for the suggestion Cheech............ I have looked at a few different set ups. I am thinking about one of these 3

[link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&W=001108564&I=LXRST1&P=K]Novak xbr[/link]
[link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXNKU0&P=7]Mamba Max 4600[/link]
[link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXSDB8&P=ML]Velineon[/link]

Do you guys think the B2 ball diff will handle these? Or should I try and convert to the EXT diff gear?

This is just going to be a basher for me.......once i get it all set up there will be plenty of video

I'm thinking about brushless too. What's the difference between the Mamba Max 4600kv and the Mamba Max 7700kv?

Hey everyone. I just recently purchased an Evader EXT. Wanted to own a nice rc car for once in my life and decided to go with the EXT because of the durability i've read about, and you can't beat that price! First time I took it out the rear axel broke on one side (but it was because of a defect in the part). After I replaced that part the front shock tower and body mount broke on it (once again, I think it was a defect but who knows). So much for stress-tech, haha. I bought a graphite version of the front strut tower to replace it so all should be well. Other than those two things its been a bad azz little truck. It handles jumps and bumps very well. I love the thing. Even 20mph seems amazingly fast. I'm sure I'll want more speed out of it in time so I'll probably eventually upgrade to a brushless system, but only once the stock motor burns out. I say don't fix it until its broken, lol.

But anyways, I have one main question. I've read in this thread many times about how the EXT comes with bushings instead of bearings. So whats the benefit of bearings and is it really worth the 15 dollars? If it really doesn't make a huge difference then I'll probably go with my policy of don't fix until its broken. Cause I'm sure the bushings will wear out eventually.

I just bought the Velineon (today) and love it sooo far!!!!! man this thing fly's!!!!

Oh it has been a long time since I posted. Life has been busy as well as work. The Evader has been doen without a motor for a long time. Duid not buy another brushed motor because I wanted brushless. Was going to go with Mamba, but the Velineon was really nice and nice price. I do have to rebuild my diff, but ti is the orginal diff, which is about a 1 year and half old with lots of track time. It was needing rebuilt before the new set-up. I plan on being on the board more and having some video as well.

rymansl2,

Bearings make a world of difference! Spend the $15 and get a set of bearings for your EXT. Your speed will increase.

I might save up for a few more weeks and go BL instead of getting a 13 T motor. Would the Valeion or the XBR 8.5 be faster on 6 cells.

What are some other gear covers that will fit the Evader EXT I cracked my stock one and stripped a spur because of it?

well your holding the bag on that one. they dont make different ones. but you can do something to make them stronger.. i sprayed a few coats of PLASTIDIP on it and it works pretty well.

Heyoo!

So the story goes, I got a PM from someone on RCU a little while ago and something went *BING!* and I remembered TEC. hahaha
Yeah the ole Evader is just chillin in my garage right now, hasn't been touched in almost a year.

Finally got a nice job, about to be out of school in a few months and my desert life just keeps getting bigger. I had been wanting to sell my Evader for a while but now Im kinda wondering if I want to take it for a quick spin. lol If someone knows anyone who wants to buy, let them know (basically RTR with everything you need including batts, charger, spares and toe brace kit (racer), if not I may sit on it for a while longer. Im afraid that if I want to keep it then thats a few hundred that I won't be investing in my truck's suspension because I'll want to start upgrading the R/C and whatnot. hahaha

So what all have I been missing out on in m absence? What's this EXT? lol

cool dude, its nice to see a VET once in a while. i know how you feel about selling RC, i too get that way also. as far as the EXT its basically a basher version of the evader. it has better plastics and fixed the evader tranny problems,its a geared tranny instead of ball diff. few things have been downgraded but not so bad in my book. the shocks are plastic and theres bushing instead of bearing, lastly it can handle brushless with no problem with the new tranny and for 99 bucks RTR and the 1 year warranty what the heck else are you going to expect. anywho nice to see you drop by dont be a stranger.
