Hi rotccapt, it's probably to late but this might help for inner gear doors. http://www.oregonscaleaviation.com/R...MicroGear.html
For your tail doors, most use a striker plate inside the wheelwell. When the wheel retracts it hits the plate and pushes it down. connect a few pushrods from the plate to your doors and they will close when the plate moves. Most use a spring of some sort to open the doors.

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build
thanks for the info on that door sequencer it is not too late because i still have my inner doors and it would only require a little surgery to get back to where i was. have you used that sequencer? it soulds like the answer to my problems. for actuating my tail wheel doors i am planning on making them force open spring close if that makes scence. i will have a spring on the doors to close them and the gear will push them open

Ooops, I tried OSU. Maybe I'll talk to you when I'm flying again. Good catch. Just trying to maintain privacy. ROTC, looks nice. I'm using the old Jomar sequencer..we'll see how it works.

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build
ive got one of those it will not work with lado tech retracts you can not adjust the delay between gear up and door up so the doors will close before the gear are in the wells. also the second gear channel is reversed so when using lado tech retracts one goes up the other goes down so you cant use the stagger feature. all in all the biggest wast of 30 bucks i spent on this plane. now if i were using retract servos or air it would work great so it goes on the shelf to gather dust until the next project that gets retracts

rotccapt, no I don't have the sequencer yet. Right now I have my inner gear doors set up on a switch to manually open and close. Not sure if I'll get one or not.
I installed the retracts and air system so i could install the retradt valve, air tank and ops check the gear for the first time. I also installed the inner gear doors rigged and ops checked them.

I have about 1.5 hours in an Sr22 G3, but 300+ dual given in a Diamond Star with the G1000 cockpit. I am sure they are somewhat similar. Let me know, and I can send you my resume. Around 700 Dual given in C172's, DA-40's, and Seminoles. Thanks!

Robart makes some "D" brackets that are used for gear door mounts. Have a look on Tower or where you buy Robart products.

Lastly.... I will lay up the doors inner/outer like many, and tailwheel doors. I have spent much time soldering up manifolds and modifying struts, and building hard points. So I am slow? It'll get done this year if I am alive to see about it!

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build
Ok, I lied...so sue me! Here is the last pics of currently achieved detail (I have posted some earlier). Notice my inner door cylinders in the first pic. They are from Bob Violett products, as are the actual mechanical part of the mains (per TF recommendation, not shown). I think it'll work since the designer used the same thing. Those Violett T-33 fiberfilled nylon with aluminum cast parts to receive the strut are indeed impressive. Just as the instructions say..there is no up lock so you can decide your own stop. They mechanically down lock very affirmatively with the air cylinders mounted remotely in the well. So I will sequence air to the inner doors and the mains with the Jomar...which will actuate two seperate air valves (nothing mechanical). I have two tiny Futaba servos for air activation, so it isn't too heavy. There ya are?![sm=50_50.gif]

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build
what are your manifolds made of and what kind of solder did you use and last what did you solder with. i know lots of questions but i am trying to fix my $135 mistake. i bought one of the kelo creations p-51 exhausts that was designed for the h9 mustang and although it fits (and looks ok) the manifold is too short the the pipe size is too small so i am not happy with it. so my plan is to cut the manifold off my exhaust and attach a new set of manifolds that are more scale. here are a couple pics of my current exhaust while installed on the engine and plane
i tried this with aluminum but did not get good bonds so i figured go with either brass or stainless steal tubing brass being the cheaper and easier to work with and bearing solder

Hey rotccapt,
Is that a painted aluminum spinner you are using? If so what process did you use to paint it and does it seem to be durable enough to stand up to the use of an electric starter? I have a Dave Brown aluminum spinner that I would like to paint or possibly get powder coated yellow. I know paint doesn't bond to aluminum very well without following a fairly complicated procedure so I am not sure how to proceed. Has anyone else had success with painting an aluminum spinner?
On a slightly different topic check out the amazing work this skilled builder has done on a 1/16 scale scratch built p-51. It's unbelievable!

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build
i am using a true turn spinner and all that i did was ruffed up the cone with 320 grit then i painted it with class kote epoxy paint. there are also about 2 coats of paint on the cone. the paint is durable enough i think because i cant get the paint to chip by picking at it but i have not tried to start the engine since i painted the spinner. also before painting i solvent washed the cone to remove all fingerprints and oil
