RE: New Evolution 10cc gas engine
i'm using 2 onboard volt meters (1 for ignition and other for receiver) that tells you the exact voltage of the battery and with LiFe packs i just recharge when it goes under 6.5 and its worked out great for me. I plugged the volt meter into the open lead from the ignition for the telemetry that i dont use anyway. You have a good point about the connection maybe just not making good contact and with me unplugging it and replugging it in that coulda solved the problem.

RE: New Evolution 10cc gas engine
I'm currently installing the 10GX in a Hanger 9 Toledo Special. Only hangup so far is that even with the 13mm extension the muffler is just to long and won't allow mounting to the engine. I'd order the Bison Pitts muffler but have no idea how big it is. Anyone used this muffler for this aircraft or have some pictures from various angles mounted to a 10GX so I can get some idea if it would possibly work before I shell out for the muffler. Thanks.

lipo vs life probably won't see any change... your talking 7.2V vs 6.6V and both are within the recommended ranges.
there are other threads about OTHERengines that have had issues with the higher voltages of these batteries... switched to a 4 cell 4.8V nicad and the issues went away.
Personally I'm flying the 4.8V nicad.

Just got done flying and the day started out kinda bad cause the motor starting missing real bad in the Meridian and couldn't figure out what was going on. I checked for air leaks and all was good. I replaced the spark plug and still the same thing. Then i looked at my voltage meter when at WOT and it was going from 6.5 down to 4.0 and bouncing around inbetween. I'm using a new 1100 liFe pack for the ignition that i charged this morning so i put it back on the charger and it only took 190mah to top it off. I put it back in the plane and problem was gone. I flew it for 5 more tanks without any problems and motor ran great. So not too sure what to think of it. Maybe i'll just get a lipo instead for ignition. Anyone else came across this problem?

The new Macs came soon after the old exhaust had broken.
New we are talking, do not even need the extension with the Meridian!

I've installed a 15GX in a .61 size Mustang and have the engine tested and ready for flight. It ran notably smoother than my 10GX and caused me to double check the prop and spinner balance used on the 10GX. They were balanced before installation and double check to be OK including hub balance
If I find the time, I'll install a slightly out of balance prop and compare several different positions. Many years ago, we had an old gentlemen who was meticulous about all aspects of RC, and he would painstakingly counter a poorly balanced engine.
It should be interesting.

I'm having trouble securing the spark plug wire to the spark plug. I push it down and swivel it slightly but it doesn't click. During run ups, I see it twist off. I'm afraid to fly it until I know it is properly latched to the spark plug. What am I doing wrong????

I've found that some of the 1/4-32 spark plugs seem to be deformed and won't lock in properly. Personally I have 3 1/4-32 spark plugs.. 2 work and 1 is deformed... If you have a spare.. try it out and see if you have any better results....and first and foremost... don't force it... it shouldn't be a difficult fit.

It doesn't click. I'm afraid to push too hard because I don't want to damage the plug. Once I push it down, it will rotate slightly but it doesn't seem to want to stay. After running the engine, I can see it rotate back and get loose. The problem is when it gets loose, it not only effects the engine, but also it interfers with the receiver. All of the control servises go bonkers. I reattach the plug and everything works fine until the vibration starts. I'll try it again tomorrow and see what happens.

MAKE SURE YOU PUSH TILL YOU HEAR A CLICK OR IT REALLY IS ON GOOD I FOUND OUT I WAS NOT PUSHING HARD ENOUGH

RE: New Evolution 10cc gas engine
Did a test this morning to evaluate engine vibration. Used was an Evolution 13x6 prop yet unbalanced. It had a distinctly heavy end, which was marked. The heavy end was tested in four mounting positions, tdc, bdc, and 90° before and after tdc with no observable vibration differences. It was removed and replaced with a balanced prop and notably less vibration.
Conclusion: The unbalanced prop did not counter any inherent engine unbalance suggesting there is none and that vibration of the 10GX is due to other factors not associated with balance.

I was just giving you a summary of the previous conversation and what was said. it was actually started by me b/c I had a broken timing sensor and had to replace and needed to know how to set it. basically the horizon hobby reps said "put it in the middle"
ORIGINAL: rhd-RCU
I didn't want to change it. I am using the ignition on another engine. Wanted to know where to set the timing. Thanks.

RE: New Evolution 10cc gas engine
Well I got mine running last night. I didn't get a chance to go much tuning on it though. I tried hand starting it once with a chicken stick, and didn't notice that the plane had rolled back from its blocks. When it started, it rolled forward right into my hand. I ended up in the ER and had to have 13 stitches in three fingers [:@]. needless to say, it may be a while before I work on it again.

RE: New Evolution 10cc gas engine
I bought mine at the Great Escape in Greenville SC about two months ago. It was the last one they had and was mounted to a stand being used as a display.
