The thing that Redline oil is not recommended for that engine.... but nobody using it had problems is something i cannot understand........

Pretty much everyone who flies giant scale planes use redline or sthil ultra HP oil . I know thats 2stroke but they have alot of $ tied up in their planes .

Well, now I'm concerned! I flew all last summer using Redline oil mixed 20:1 with no problems, but decided to change to Morgan oil because it was "highly recommended". I mixed a fresh batch of 20:1 Morgan Cool Power Synthetic Oil at 20:1 and flew three flights yesterday. For some reason the engine would not start by hand like it always did before. I flipped until my arm was sore and finally resorted to an electric starter and the engine fired right up. The first two flights seemed normal but on the third flight the engine went "sour". Running erratic and seemed like it was ready to quit. Today I pulled the cowl and checked the engine carefully. There is a new loud "clicking" noise coming from the internals....definitely sounds like one of the rod big ends is gone.

I purchased the FG60R3 back in Jan-2016 after it was mentioned that the engine was upgraded by Saito to include the Ray English modifications, addition of the crank pin bronze bushing and the more efficient fuel inlet manifold. I had not run the engine for the break-in procedure yet, so I decided to remove the rear cover to confirm the engine had the two RE mods. The good news is the crank has the bronze bushing but the fuel inlet manifold does not have the fuel inlet extension pickup tubes like the FG84R3 has as is shown in the RE modification video. I also have the FG90R3 and both modifications are embodied on that engine, although Saito incorporated a different type of improved fuel inlet manifold mod that is different from what RE installed on the FG84R3.

Do you have photos ot the FG90? They should have put the roller bearing in it for all the extra weight it has...

That is because the intake mods you see in the FG84 video are intermediate... not the final version that ended up on the FG90. Ray said that Saito copied that intermediate version on this engine, but it looks like they did little to no mods on the intake. Regardless, that did not make its way into the FG60 design. For some reason, Saito would rather commit suicide than provide a fix for a bad design! They are taking a beating on this...

Yes, you'll note that I said, "They should have put the roller bearing in...", not that they did put it in. I will check out that thread...

Guys for those of you that have the Saito 60R3 who run the cool blue oil with no mods, are there any running well? Also how loud is one on stock muffler vs Keleo. How much of a noise difference is it to say a DA-35 with a pitts or a DLE 35ra. What I mean is not the 4 stroke cool sound but that actual decibels. I don't need exact numbers just a idea.
Thanks

Important info about oils from Ray English.
I spoke to Ray last week and he had this to say. He has a few oils he recommends for an important reason. The 2-cycle oils he does not recommend are intended to lubricate the 2-cycle engine cranckcase first and then burn off in the engine's combustion chamber. They are formulated to leave little residue. This is helpful to keep chain saws and weed eaters from getting covered with gunk. The oils that Ray is recommending, 4-cycle oils, do not burn in the combustion chamber, and, thus, tend to linger on the lower end crankcase parts to keep them lubricated and cool. The oils blow by the piston rings, and that is how the bottom end is lubricated in these engines. If the oil is burned up in the combustion chamber it cannot get down into the case to lubricate the bottom end.
The down side is that the oil tends to pass out the exhaust (and crankcase vent) and gunk up the bottom of the plane, leaving a lot of yuk all over, including inside the crankcase where you need it - all this according to Ray. This is the most important reason not to use the 2-cycle oils in your 4-cycle Saito gasser.

Good explanation. You are correct. I too remember Ray mentioning the differences and importance of running the right oil. As never owned one of these engines how does it compare noise wise compared to a 2 stroke? Obviously it is a nice 4 stroke sound but if you put 2 side by side how much louder is one over the other?
