Well I don't know which one is stronger I just know that for me I needed the weight of the G-38 in my Corsair to balance. I was lucky enough to get one Antique converted. I have not seen it yet because I am in Iraq at the moment, but my wonderful wife has been so kind to Email me pics of my new beauty.lol I had to call in some special favors for that.haha I looked at both and they both would have been great for power just with the DLE I would of had to add weight and a lot of it to get it to balance. For me the KISS method works best. Less to go wrong.) I also have the DLE 30 side carb that I guess I will just have to find something for it to go in!!

However, I rather enjoyed the "old fart part. Got me to laughing, which is something I do too little of. Thanks John

I think that lightened 38 will surprise the owner. The loss of weight is like the addition of power. Sort of like an old fat guy walking up a hill. Huffin' and puffin'. Lose 30 pounds and he does a lot better. Same applies to the DLE 30 in a manner of speaking but that same old guy not only lost weight, he lost a little muscle in the process.

Skillet,

Thanks for what you do over there! I was in the sandbox a few times and know it's not a basket of roses. Keep up the great work, your spirits, and the relationship you have with your extended family in arms.

Tom, in reallity this forum would not be so interesting. You, RCIGN, Jody, cyberwolf, bcci, tkg, karolh and others all make this aFUN forum to be on. Sometimes I do not even need to be humous "funny" just some of my replies come out bass-ackwards! Or reply to the wrong post.....The heat is getting me I guess! Capt,n

Good to see you back up to form. You had me worried for a spell before your holiday. If we can't harrass each other a bit we would become to "fixed" in our ways. Can't have that now

I totally agree with Pat on this one, sometimes we all take this forum way to serious and not use it for what it was really intended for. I'll be the first one to admt I have done such a thing maybe once or twice *L*.
But I to am glad to see the Capt'n back up to par, keep on truckin capt'n we need your input and support more than you may know.

hi all,
this is my first post but have read every page of this thread from the start. and since it began i am impressed it is still going.
i have a DLE30 and bought it on about page 6..... i don't have tilt and die problem that i can tell. i have installedit into an ultimate bipane 55" and boy it goes well. i finally got round to putting a tacho on it, idle rpm was about 1800 and max RPM was 10500. goes well. what should i expect from it. and would this be considered to be run in? its had about 2 hours run time...... thanks

That's a whole lotta rip!! If you want to slow down a little you might think about going up to a 20-6 if you have the ground clearance. That bipe has a pretty wide speed range and if it's propped right it will handle nicely, allowing for smoother flying. You'll find a larger will give you more pull without the extra speed. Without beng there I imagine the plane does not slow down as much as you wish it too. Too little prop will do that to a plane.

actually i borrowed the tacho but now that you mention it, i did make a custom muffler.the standard muffler looked a bit crappy in this cowel and i wanted bit of a pits style but didn't want to pay ; 0
do you think this could be why its reving so hard?
also would that affect my idle ?

Hi T.O.M
yeah it doesn't like slowing down especially when i'v just landed
i think i will tighten up the rear wheel a little for that though.....
it flies nice but i might also try give a bigger prop a shot. i find that with the needles set well (the bet i can) it runs and transitions well but last weekend coming out of a loop, i kept her a full throttle to see what would happen and i think it leaned out cos she stalled, backing the throttle off quickly saw it sart back up but it was a bit hairy. this was the only time it happened and i would guess it may have jsy over reved. do you think a bigger rpob would stop that too ?

also ifany one isable to view the pics i have uploade you will notice the exhaust pipes are black. they are always like this and often quite wet. i'm guessing it's the unburnt oil ? using yamah fully synthetix 2 stroke oil. what you reckon ?
thanks

whitey84, That's a good looking plane. Yellow is not one of my favorite colors because I don't seem to put a good color scheme on a plane with it. I only use yellow for trim. You did Yellow as a main color with the white and black trim very well. Hats off to you. Your exhaust looks good to.
I've been thinking about buying this engine for a while to put on a Hanger 9, Edge 540. I've had a MDS 1.48 on it. Flew OK. Engine did weird things around Idle. I've flown it a lot and think this DLE30 would be perfect. I have a DA 50 on a 30% Yak-54 and love it. I rather have gas than glow on it.

Like Skillet, I'm also in the SAND BOX somewhere to. So in a couple of months, I'll order one, so it'll be home when I get there.

Thanks to all that are currently and in the past that have served. Wes

as much as i would like to take the credit for the colour scheme it was an ARF and came like that i do like it though.
the muffler was a modified standard muffler, with some round pipe at various diameters, tig welded together. it sound great.
i've been wanting an edge 540 myself. if i am allowed to get one ; ) i will definatelywant put another DLE30 into it. it really is a great little motor (mine is anyway)

Try a 19" prop first and see how you like it. The combustion process makes carbon. Fact of life. With only a couple of gallons through the engine the ring prolly has not fully seated yet and the amount of wear particles that contribute to the density of the black in the pipes will be a bit higher until the ring seating is complete. The pipes will always be black, and hopefully always a little damp. Dry means no oil.

Well I got the new rear-intake kit from Jody at Valley view. Very qucik service! Thanks. I took the DLE30 apart first taking cyl off to check ring break-in. Boy that ring must be hard!! Anyway I put the engine cases back together and installed the cyl . I let the yamabond cure over nite. Then installed rear carb ect. The engine has a nice bouncy feel to it when hand crank fast. I placed the engine back on test stand & ran it. I got it to run & fine tuned it a little. It starts with one flip when warm...like 10 out of 10 times like before. It does have a real smooth transition...better than before, I would say. I did have to take the pumping section apart and adjust the little one way flappers to close better. One had a slight curl away from hwere it seats. Did that all before it started....because it did not want to pull fuel good?? Anyway she is humming real nice. Best Regards Capt,n P.S. The guy with the nice yellow bipe...is it a CMP kit?

NO REPLY...A UPDATE
Well at 9 AM I had my DLE30 running great. This afternoon I thought I would start it up to make sure things are right. well it does not want to pull fuel up ...just like before. That carb is coming apart to see whats up. I guess I will solder that hole shut in choke plate first! Capt,n
2nd update
I did notice my fuel level in tank was down to1/4 full. Also my tank on test stand is maybe 3 inches below center of carb. I filled the tank up and it will at least now pull the fuel up and the engine now starts & runs good again. When I place fuel tank in my airplane...it will be high enough for a easy fuel pull-up to carb. I think I will also close that hole off in the choke plate. Maybe someday I will be flying the new Giles 202....not a Midwest Giles. Take Care Capt,n

to be honest, not really sure what sort of kit it is. i got it as an ebay special it is my first "real" plane so i didn't want to spend too much incase it found the ground. the kit was ok, however, i found my self making a few changes and used a few tubes of wiking glue in all the joints i could get my hands to.

TOM i will try a 19" prop and report back ....

It seems my G38 question had some discussion going and this is my first chance to reply. It is important to realize that there are quite a number of variables to deciding which engine is perfect for your aircraft. Of course I would not add weight if I did not need to, but a lightly loaded biplane does not really care. My aircraft is very light for it's size at 19lbs. It is a 1/4 scale Fokker DVII.
If I were to have done over, yes, I would have put a 50cc in the first place. But, this is a competition scale model and I have little room and many of the cowl and dummy engine components were built around the G38. This is an example where I do not need a lot more power, but just a little boost. I am running a 19-8 and I think it is turning around 6,700 rpm. I would like to get a 20-6-8 up around 7,500 but that is not possible. I think that would be the best prop. If I could get that 19-8 up over 7,200 I would be happy.
It is important to understand I fly at 6,000' altitude and the G38 does do OK, but I would like a little more. Attached are some pics. It has done quite well in competition with the G38 and it will most likely remain as the powerplant. I just thought the DLE 30 might be a candidate.

That looks like the Nitro Planes kit, I have one and it looks the same. Mine had a SPE 26cc, but I was not impressed, it now has the DLE 30 but havnt had a chance to fly with it yet.

i think it was a nitro plane kit. (not positive)
you will love theDLE in this plane. unlimited verticle. literally.
you can take off in about 10-15 meters and go straight up !! watch the torque roll though ; )
