Jim,
You're on the money with your price point assessment. I picked up a 150 for a grand pretty much for that reason. The larger 170's from DA and 3w had the previous owner of the 150 in the market for a larger engine. The 100 class engines from DA and 3w really don't have any incentive to move away from their current price levels since they are in high demand in other sectors outside the hobby industry.

Joe AP - going to 100cc class is almost "essential", and I didn't fully understand it until I did. Didn't think twice about letting 50cc stuff go...blink of an eye - poof!
I did get a DA100 nib from the forum here for less than $900....it was a unique situation, however. It also is not the "L"version. I am pretty sure that those simply cannot be had for less than a grand.

Man I need to get into twins. All this talk makes me want one.

I keep a 50cc around since it fits in my Cherokee and is easy to head out to the field where I have to get out the trailer for the bigger models, but they do fly sooo much better and even sound better....
Don't think I'll ever get into the 40% size stuff as it would just be a real hassle to move 'em around in the house, I'm gettin too old to be tryin to do that without significant hangar rash anyway and the price tag is a problem.
Any time I start looking at the bigger birds seriously, all I have to do is get out either the 33% Edge or the 2.6 Compy fuselage and haul it down the hallway from the hobby room and that takes care of those thoughts.... lol

That's the reason I haven't done it yet. So far I carry them from basement every time I fly as I don't want to leave them in the garage. It's a real pain to get my 88" Yak up the stairs with its long landing gear legs. Getting it through entry door is a pain too. For 33% and larger you need an SUV or a trailer. But I figured out recently that my SUV is actually big enough to carry a 35% plane, especially without the spinner, so that's excuse is down the tubes.

I've avoided the 40% stuff for similar reasons. I'm staying in a condo right now where the garage is taken up with a persons mid size pick up. If put in the garage, the 35% sits across the back of the pick up and there is no room to pass by either end of it. Getting the 35% through the front door and down the hall brings a few thumps and bumps every time so a 40% here is out of the question. I bought a used 46% Ultimate awhile back and it would not fit in the back of a long bed pick up with the engine and cowl attached. That's how I ended up with a trailer.
So for me the 100cc class planes is about as large as I want to go. They all easily fit in the back of my pick up. They do fly a lot better than the 50cc planes, which fly pretty darn good all in all.
