Don't want all of your hard work to go to waste...but I too find the search function basically useless at times. A sticky would be great; RCU should really try harder here to help out.
Nice try, but none of the links are active in that copy.

Sadly, I've requested w8ye edit/delete any I couldn't get to.

My apologies for trying to be helpful.

Hey, I am so thrilled to get this on the Velox, I couldn't care about the rest of the BS. I was out of this for many years, now with great engines like this on a superb airframe, I think it is a blast! Now, should I use the DLE-20 that I have been flying on the old rat Ultra Stick since it is pretty well dialed in (if not fully broken in) or use the new one?

Gentlemen -

I started to comment on this - but there are enough battered egos already. Please try a little kindness with each other - 'tis the season, y'all...

Did you put the dle 20 on the 47" velox revolution? And if so, you must be having a blast.

No, the 68 inch. The way it pulls my old 8 pound Ultra Stick around vertically is amazing, so in the lighter and infinitely better Velox it will be alot of fun. I fly the 42 inch AJ Slick mostly now, more than any of my other planes, so I am excited to fly the DLE-20/Velox combination.

That was what I was thinking, I will fly the Velox more radically and I want the reliability in a low hover. I can break in the new one on the Stick which has easy access to tune and has maximum cooling without a cowling.

A1pcfixer,

I was soimpressedat all the work you did for us. Some people really seem like old hags that have nothing better to do than complain rather than appreciate life.
Correction "Old dried up hag" would better describe what I wasreferringto.

I wish you would have just ignored them!

But thanks from us "normal" people

Oh yeah and thanks to jedijody as well

Another question about the ignition voltage.

Ok so I saw on RCU that voltage was tested down to 3 volts and below that, the spark would just be too week.

Has any one ever used a single Li-po of say 2000mha.  The max voltage is 4.2 and I would never go below 3.5.

Would this be reliable?

Thanks

I was running an Rcexl single cylinder ignition today on a dead 4 cell Nimh battery it did great until the voltage hit 3.5 volts with no load. At that point it started missing pretty bad at higher RPM, I've run Rcexl ignitions on a single Lipo cell and they work great, when it starts missing at WOT it still runs no problem at lower throttle settings, so it does give you warning, it doesn't just quit at a certain voltage threshold.

I thought Jim's summary was great too and told him so via PM early on. Suggested he Sticky it but he felt it was too soon and that more data would be coming along. But I admit to being constantly annoyed by the effort he and others expended on chastising newcomers to do a search before asking questions, some posts seemed more lengthy to me on this regard than just answering the question.

Have to say the "suck up" posts are even more annoying and if anything should be removed from this thread those would be the one's I suggest go.

I find Jody's "proven in the field info" very useful too and I'm interested to learn more about his single battery/voltage regulator/IBE thingy. But I'm too much a weavel at this and will have to research it more.

Regards,

Clay

There have been several posts made by myself and WrongwayRC on the use of a single battery without the use of an IBEC some pages back. If you can't find what you're looking for feel free to ask away.

I have been following this thread on the DLE20 and it has much valuable information. To try and get the same kind of information on what aircraft you are using or plan to use your DLE20 in I started a new thread to gather all of your information. Please feel free to visit and post information on any planes you are flying and what if any mods you needed to make to get this great little jewel installed. If you make your post there maybe we can get a comprehensive list of the best and the not so good choices for this engine.

Thanks to everyone that has made post to this thread and looking forward to seeing similar interest in (What Airplane are you flying your DLE20 in)

Dan

It has taken me 6 1/2 hrs but I read the entire thread up to this point tonight.

a1pcfixer's work has been placed as a quote in the first post (Jody's) of this thread for all to read.

I've been experimenting with one 2200mah Li-ion and a voltage booster (5.0v,1.0amps max, 2 grams) powering an old (version 3) Melody ignition on a Zenoah 20cc. All up weight of battery and booster is about 30 grams.

So far so good.

Just started this so not many flights yet.

w8ye, a1pcfixer, jedijody,
Thanks for all the work you have done to make this information available.
Doing this kind of work is way above and beyond the call of duty and will benefit everyone who has or is thinking about getting one of these engines.
In the future, we will be able to (politely) point people to the first post of this thread instead of asking them to search the forum.
