Rapture guy

What's special about air tronics ?

Or were you just having fun ?
I'm Futaba. Minority in my club. Most guys spectrum.

Disregard if having fun. Sometimes I can be thick

Just having fun, I'm a trouble maker at heart but I switched a couple years back and love them. I just bought the 10 chan sd10 and it is so easy to program and only one receiver is needed They all have plus and minuses though.

Ain't that the truth, I have always been a Futaba guy and I really like my Futaba T8FG but all the programming is a real PITA. For the life of me I can't understand why they feel the need for sooooo much programmability.

I'm with you Robert.
Moved up from 7 channel to the 14 sg.
Took me a week to kinda figure it out.

But you know. We are smater after figuring it out.
Kinda like staying in a Holiday in express

Tank has been plumbed, you can see how I ran the vent line if you look carefully in photo #3. I mounted the servos for the elevator halves and ran all the wires through the tube (rocket) that I had installed earlier in the build. It was a snap to just push the wires through and have them come out in the exact location that I wanted. I also installed one of four remote receivers in the tail and used the same chase to run the wire. The receiver that I am using is a 12 channel DSMX Power Safe Aircraft Receiver made by Spektrum.

When I mount tanks, I plumb the vent to a solid line coming down the firewall and out through the cowl. Sometimes the vent is a hard line through the cowl that disconnects when I remove the cowl and sometimes I just have a hole in the cowl that 'latches' over the hard line installed with those wire landing gear mounts. No, not the ones for gear legs sunk into wood but for gear on a surface.

So why did you put yours in the middle of your fuselage? MY way of thinking suggests that compromises that area of the fuselage, but my way is not always right.

If his overflow gives you pause, check out where my engine crankcase breather line exits.

On the subject of program-ability, give the FrSky Taranis a go! Talk about programmable! I love it... so far anyway. I haven't gotten to try it out in real life though, except for using it as a buddy box. Time will tell.

Hey Robert. Why don't you use some snaps for the flying wires? Lol.

Jim, I could have easily placed the vent line so it exits through the firewall and exit down through the cowl. I chose this spot for ease of removing the gas tank. The aluminum piece that the vent line goes through is a slightly modified fuel filler dot. The vent line simply slips through the hole, if the tank needs replacing it is an easy job of sliding the line through! As far as compromising the fuselage goes, the bottom of the fuse is balsa sheeted and glassed over so there's plenty of strength there. I am planning on placing a fuel filter on the inside of that vent line as well...

OK Robert, I hadn't noticed before the exit location on your Pitts. Is there a reason to place it in the tail?

LOL! The tube was originally as a replica for the cockpit vent per the model I am fashioning. This Valach being a four stroke needs a crankcase vent and this vent spews oil like a nitro. So the replica vent seemed like a good option to keep the black crankcase crud off the airframe. The pic is the new engine stand after a thirty minute run of the Valach, see the arrow.

That is what I was looking for. My views on the fuselage are colored by MY approach which does not generally include glass.

Very smart and practical Robert!

Just an update on the progress of my Edge. Closing on my house is this Monday, so the push to get everything out and cleaned takes first billing. Setting up shop in my new digs gets second billing. (Got everything just about where I want it so I can work efficiently) With all this going on, some progress has been made on the Edge though!

Made a removable platform to hold the battery (3200mAh Life) and receiver, this should work well. I'm going to need to buy an adaptor to go from the battery's Dean connector to the EC3 connector that is on my Spektrum receiver. With this almost completed I will get started on covering the elevator halves and rudder next so I can make them functional.

Even with all that and you still find time for the shop. Now THATS impressive. You must be just dying to have the whole sell/buy/move ordeal behind you.

Oh you better believe it Steve, moving is a young man's sport! I am so done with it, I am lucky to have the help that my girlfriend (Marianne) gave me or this deal would not be going on...

Keep the faith Steve it will sell! Better start to thin out the stuff in the workshop that we all collect over time...

I closed on my house this morning, it was both a sad and happy moment for me ...Now a little more organizing on my new shop and I can get to some serious building. Sorry that the progress on this build has been so slow!

One chapter closes. Usually bitter sweet, even if the chapter is closed willfully.
But now a bright and promising new chapter has opened.
All the best, for this new chapter Vince.

Hi Vincent, I just want to say how much I love your Edge. What really kills me is this is just your beater plane. The good ones never leave the house! Congratulations on closing and moving into your new house. That's always tough. But life is like that and sometimes you just need a break. That's why I love this hobby.

Thanks Kevin and Mike, I am glad that is now behind me. I'm hoping this Edge is going to be my everyday flier. What makes this all fun (at least for me) is the dialogue that I have with all of you during this build. There is so much to be learned in this hobby...I know a lot of what I try is something that I have seen in other threads or from talking to guys at flying fields.

We want private Ryan, we want Private Ryan, we want Private Ryan..... come on you know if those guys at topgun can do it you can too. Have you seen the B-29 thread? I got to see that plane fly, pretty amazing to see it doing a flat spin. I hope to check out your new digs this summer yet, and maybe do some flying together.

Haven't heard from you in a while there Dave...

Cliff, I hope you can make it! It would be great to get some air time...I haven't seen the B-29 thread yet.

Tomorrow I will start the covering of the tail, be sure to check in for the progress...

Sad to see Mac Hodges crashed his B-29 last week at a show in DE, went right over the crowd on takeoff and hit a tent. Amazing no one was hurt.

WOW, I'll have to watch that clip!

I worked all day in the workshop covering the tail, I used Hangar 9's Ultra-Cote. Though it's easier for me to use than Monokote it was still a pain. I had forgotten how much I dislike covering with plastic! Oh well, it did do its job keeping the weight down on the tail section...

I'm going to post the pics now, but I don't have the time at the moment to explain the covering procedure so I'll do it tomorrow...My honey and I are going out to celebrate!
