Thanks all for the kind words...

Dave, I'm using a small digital Canon camera, nothing special. Don't think it will be done before I have to move out as the target date for me to sign the papers is July 14th. Not very far away, but I am trying my hardest to get it close to being done. I can't spend as much time on it as I would like because of all the packing, my girlfriend has been a blessing really helping me pack and deal with all the stress. Don't think I could do it without her!

David, I'm hoping to get some "air-time" by the end of July, give or take a week! Please excuse the mess in my shop!

I am now ready to layout the accent stripes on the sides of the fuse, these will be white. I used 1/8" vinyl 3M tape for this. I like the way this type of tape seals and how easily it bends around curves.

Oh man, my eyes were drawn straight to that as well Robert. Chill inducing terror!!! That arrow keeping company above it must have also been really hard to balance for the shot

What also kinda freaks me out is the pencil sharpener just below the left window (The electric silver and black one) is the same one I keep seeing within a cubicle in the PC game the Stanley Parable (in case you don't know it, its a game kinda like Groundhog day where you can never really make a difference in its world). Co-incidence, I think not!

Thats really starting to look like an Edge Vincent. Getting jealous as the edge has always been one of my favourite aerobats. Thanks for the update.

Take it easy Dave, one has to limit ones viewing time when viewing backgrounds. I have a 3 second rule then hit exit.
I do have to admit the amount of disarray in these pics is definitely not the typical VJ backdrops!!!!

Sheesh! I wasn't looking at the background until you guys had to go and say something. There was one thing that caught my eye. Now I'm wondering if he really painted it or not, because.... I see a role of red Monokote in the in a box under the window!

Well VJ, what are you doing with a role of red Monokote in there? Huh?? Well???

Why do you think I don't post any pics? Too many cyber snoopers. LOL. That's a beautiful finish VJ.

Thanks Steve, and yes David that is red and white Ultra Kote that you see in the background, and it is for the wings!

I have the white accent stripe all taped off and anticipate going to my shop (in school) to get the final bit of painting done.

Moving has really disrupted my life and organization of the upstairs living space as well as my workshop! I hate the mess and clutter...the one good thing is that it has forced me to throw out a lot of stuff that I haven't used in awhile.

I have to ask, why covering for the wings instead of glass and paint, considering what a fine job you have done so far?

A workshop away from your workshop? Wow, well, La di da, lol!

There's the glass half full attitude I like to see. Its amazing how much crap we acquire over the years eh?
Does the name Edge come from that sharp, non rounded, leading edge? I always thought it was because of the straight line of the front of the wing.... or maybe the people that like to fly these live on the edge? I'm so confused...

Here are some photos of today's painting session. This should wrap up the painting section on the Edge with the exception of the wheel pants which I have not even started to fit yet.

Vince, why did you put the white on top of the red instead of the red on top of the white.
Did you want the white lip of the white detail on top ?

Anxious for the detape pics

I was wondering that also then I remembered the primer is white. Is that the reason?

Kevin, it was just easier for me to spray the whole fuselage red then tape off what I wanted white. Having used this epoxy paint before, I knew that covering the red over with white would not be an issue. Two coats of white was sprayed over the red giving me good coverage. If any of you are considering painting your planes, consider using Klass Kote products, you won't be disappointed, that is once you get over the sticker shock...

After spraying the white I like to wait for the epoxy paint to set up (about 45 minutes), then I carefully remove the tape. When pulling off the tape you have to be careful how you do it. I pull back on the tape slowly and it gives me a nice clean crisp line. The painted edges came out nice and clean and could be left as is, however I will be pin striping over the edges...

I will be picking up the Edge and bringing it home today, can't wait to start to assemble it! Once the fuse is assembled I will cover the wings with the Ultra Kote. The rudder and elevator halves will get covered as well and I will go over the method that I use to cover...

Dave, I have decided to not glass over the wings and paint for one reason...weight! I want this plane to come in at 16 pounds and I couldn't do it if I painted over the wings. It's going to be close as is...

Obviously Vincent there are things in life slowing things down on the plane, which looks nice, while other things are speeding up like moving and the new joy in life. If she is anything like you, you better hang on to it with both hands, they are hard to find

Thanks Leroy, and trust me, I'm holding on with both hands to her! I am lucky to have her in my life...

The day has come to mount the coveted DA-50 to the firewall. As you can see I decided to epoxy a sheet of aluminum to the firewall. l did this for several reasons, first, the aluminum will act as one big washer preventing the engine stand-offs and washers from digging into the plywood. Second it will offer good protection of oil and gas from contaminating the ply, and third, well, it just looks cool! Many engines that have pulled free from firewalls could probably be traced back to the ply under the washers compressing, causing the bolts to loosen up, then...

After bolting on the engine, I mounted the ignition box to the side using what my friend Gary made for me. He made it on his 3-D printer and it works and looks great, thanks Gary! Notice that I placed two rubber O-rings under the ignition box to help isolate the vibration from the engine...

That looks sharp brother. Your a true craftsman. Does your friend Gary sell those? Or would he like to sell one? Looks pretty nice. That DA will pull that plane with some darn good authority.

Happy 4th of July everyone!

Ken, when I overlap using Solartex (or any other covering) I pay attention to the direction of the overlap. You want the air to flow over your covering without it trying to get under the covering and loosening it. If the overlapped joint is on the side of the fuselage then I will do the bottom portion of the fuse first then I do the upper half, this is done purely for cosmetic reasons. I like to use about a 1/4" overlap, but that also depends whether the overlap is on an open bay or on sheeting. You can get away with lesser overlap on sheeting and maybe increase the overlap on open bays for additional holding power.

Once overlapped, I usually just paint right over the top unless I am using some type of pinking tape.

I hope I answered your question Ken. If I didn't, let me know and I'll get an answer for you.

Thanks Steve, and yes Gary does sell them. Check out post #914. I am looking forward to the performance that a DA will give to this Edge!

Thanks Cliff!

Here are some photos on some of what I have been working on. Installed the on/off switch as well as the gas tank. Throttle servo and linkage are now operational as well. I spent quite a bit of time making sure the linkage (2-56 rod and ball links) didn't rub and that I got exactly the proper throttle curve that I was after. In a plane like this the throttle is probably one of the most important thing to get set-up correctly.

I'm waiting for my receiver and battery to get delivered so I'm in a holding pattern for a day or two...
