RE: TMMY Scale Composites 35% scale Cessna
Unfortunately our dealings were with another type of aircraft, that was already in country. the issues were also with communication as well as time to receive after payment, as well as a few other items. we also had a not so friendly response to our concerns after voicing them to the representative of the company. the aircraft remains unflown at present due to a major component not being shipped with the model. we paid a premium price for a "turn key" model........... that we had to completely rebuild and replace many components.
Over all our dealing with Austar was sadly most unsatisfactory.
I was toying with the idea of getting the big Cessna, but once bitten.......

RE: TMMY Scale Composites 35% scale Cessna
Hi Shark,
The best advice I can give you is remain patient, Tommy will do everything he can to get you your Cessna within a timeframe.
I had a few hold ups with mine when I ordered it however that was due to delays with the Cessna ordered before me.
In the end it all worked out and I was a very happy boi when my plane did actually arrive.
In answer to everyones question my cessna weighs in a little over 30kgs. So it is classified as a Giant Scale catergory.
There are processes in place for this size model which I am now more aware of than I initially was.
I will be completing the final stages of certification over the weekend with an approved inspector as it will be the last opportunity I have before I fly it at a scale event in NSW.
Till then guys I wish you well.
I am just finishing the final stages of adding little scale accessories such as the wing and fuselage foot holds (black wet and dry paper to emulate).
Cheers,
Steve

Hi DJ,
I'm sorry its taken me this long to reply to you.
In answer to your question yes I have tached my DA150 and I believe with an overly rich setting I was initially getting around 4500 - 5000 rpm. I have now leaned the mixture a little and the power is getting better now between 5000- 5500. Note I am using the 29x10 biela three blader. This is a very efficient prop and I am pleased with the performance and noise levels.
Also since I modified my back pressure on my exhausts this has also helped with a noticable power gain and a much lower noise level. Comparing the intial tests we were getting at least 100dB and after the mods we are down to below 70dB.
I believe the DA 150 is definately a well matched motor for this aircraft. Straight and level flight is effortless with half throttle set and with full throttle it provides more than ample climb performance.
I would never hover this model and so I did not choose a motor that I intended on doing this with. This is not an aerobatic aircraft and I am not keen to test it out.
When I performed the CofG the model was a little nose down from neutral. I only decided to move my 2x rx batteries to the forward compartment just to move make it a little more forward. It really did not do a whole lot as the packs only weigh a few hundred grams each.
The test flight proved that my CofG was in fact quite correct.
The instruction manul states 175mm - 180 mm back from the leading edge I put arrow stickers on the underside of my wing between these too marks.
I've found a really good website of a company that makes custom aircraft labels for interior and exterior.

Nice Vid, Saul...
For you gents excited about the 185kool beans, but it just don't do anything for me. I like tail draggers but not on a Cessna. The photos of real one with floats looks nice, but I'll take a tri-gear any day.
Steve-when you read this: did you ever fly full throttle? And have you tached your full throttle RPMs? I still may do the DA 170 although the 150 flies her well.
As for my Man, Tommy, his next project for me is the SR-71. A ways out-I'm in no hurry.
Cheers...

Hey, Steve
No problem on the wait time…and thanks for the info…
I just ordered my 150 with smoke mufflers . I will buy the flex tubing as you did for them as well.
DA instructs breaking it in with a twin blade: 30x12; 32x10. I’m thinking of doing that but that’s another $160 (prop and spinner). Don’t really care to pay much more when you’re flying it ok without it. I know Glenn didn’t do so either.

RE: TMMY Scale Composites 35% scale Cessna
Hi DJ,
These motors do not need a heap of running in from what I have heard however that said I would recommend you run your motor on the factory recommended settings of 2 turns out HI needle and 5/8's of a turn on the LOW needle. This is what I ran my motor first off and it was way rich however I still flew it like this despite it spewing out black oil out of one of the exhausts. You can hear the richness in the motor as it initially loads up at top end and then begins to clear out. I've now leaned it a bit and its more responsive and not loading up as much as it used to.
I am sure the power this motor can produce will only get better. At this stage however I am not after power but reliability and running it in correctly with sufficient cooling.
I might add that I have installed heat deflectors inside the cowling to help keep the hot air and gases away from my engine box/servos so it can be carried away down through the cowl flaps at the bottom.
Even at this rich mixture setting I was hardly going over half throttle. I am trying to imagine what this plane will fly like when the motor is run in and at optimum mixture settings.
I will have some more photos taken tomorrow so I will be posting early in the week before I leave for the scale even in NSW.
Cheers,
Steve

I confirmed my order and sent you the deposit in Feb. I was sent the invoice (which I have in my hand) that I questioned you about (a) because of the price, (b) with the delivery date. It states mid march. When I sent you over several and I do mean several emails I would never get a response. We even talked (when I did get a reply back) via email about this problem that you guys have. I can post the reply you sent me back on here if you would like to that. I don't mind waiting for an item that is not my point. I do understand that the plane is a custom job and the that it is very large. My point is YOU STILL NEED TO REPLY TO YOUR EMAILS WHEN YOU GET THEM. Nothing pisses people off more than that and even more so if they have sent you money. I have talked to Tommy myself because I could never get an answer out of you. He in fact has keep me more in the loop than you as far as the time when I should get the plane, now some time in May. He also told me, when I first contacted him he knew nothing of the job that I had requested. So I sent him the same 30 or so pics that I sent you that you were to have sent to him 2-3 weeks earlier. Lack of communication there. So please from now on try to at least make an effort to reply to your customer. Being that I am not the only one it looks like with this type of problem from your company I don't have a real problem in writing this post.
I am not looking to belittle your company but just address a know problem that you look to have. I too get several emails a day for my company that I own and still (between running daily opps) manage to answer all email and phone calls in the same day. That reason you stated does not hold water. Now that I have said my part I still think the product is great and am still looking forward to dealing with you and getting a couple of other planes but please for gods sake answer your emails.

It is not uncommon to wait a year for a jet. I know that this is not a jet, but I BELIEVE THAT IT IS ONE OF THE NICEST Models on the market.
I wish I could afford one. a True work of art. Very much worth the wait.

Hello King.
I do not know. Have tried to get in touch with the brother of Wolfgang.
I hope someone takes over this work.
He has made a 240cc 4-cyl. Boxer and a 120cc v-tvin.
I think Peter from Switzerland have had contact with Wolfgang's brother.
I will write a mail to Peter.
More info later.
Are there any of you to be at Joe Nall Giant Scale?
Reg. Johnny.

Hello Johnny,
A quick question how much right thrust do you have on your engine box?
Are you using down thrust also?
I am using 2 degrees down and 2 degrees right on mine.
