They were having connecting rod problems with the 250cc. I've heard of more than a few breaking them. I think the piston skirt was hitting the con rod. The 215cc never had this problem. It is a fine running engine too.

I was incorrect with the rpm's on the motor. The manual says between 7000 -7500 rpms with a 20X10 ,20X8 prop.
please re-calculate when you get a chance and post.
I also have a question, lets say it is 28lbs of thrust with a 24 lbs Bi-plane. Would you
say I'm right on the margin (no room for error) or do I have a little breathing room.
What prop would you use, I'm guessing the 20X8 prop correct

As far as your other question it's a matter of personal choice. If your a scale guy and you have a 1 to 1 thrust ratio you way on the power side and definitely not scale. Some guys like their airplanes to leap off the ground and go vertical. Some say you can't over power a airplane but I'll let that comment speak for itself.
Personally I like my models to be around 1 to 1. This is far more than scale but it gives me some insurance just in case I do something stupid. More power than that and it starts to become difficult to fly in a scale fashion.
I know about over powering an airplane. My Stearman is a 1/4th scale Flair kit with a 10hp Robart R780. I bolted it on there because it looked and sounded cool but it's way to much power. A Seidel radial around 4 or 5hp would have been a much better choice.
If I wanted to I could easily rip the wings off of my Stearman in a huge power loop. I typically fly between 1/4th and 1/3rd throttle. When I start to get near 1/2 throttle things get dicey. It would be more fun to fly with a Seidel radial which has about 1/2 the power of the R780. I plan to do just that when I build Stearman II.

It wasn't a terminal one, altought the plane went trough the forest...
I put full flaps very quickly and the plane went into a spin i had no time to recover...

hello, I am about to purchase an AERO A-102 and a SEIDEL ST710.
--> HAs someone built already an AERO A-102 from savex ? Do you have VIDEOS or pics of this RC Model ?
Also, what is the estimated final weight of the plane ?
and, for a slower flight, is there interest to save on motor weight by using a lighter motor such as SAITO FA-300TL, instead of the ST710, or will such a “light†motor need to add some extra weight in the nose for proper balancing, and will therefore finaly end-up with the same final airplane weight ??

Hi Folks,
I've just finished my latest project and performed the first flight of my new Mono Aircraft Co. Monocoupé with one of the recently purchased Technopower engines.
I made a collector exhaust for the top fife cylinders to guide the exhaust spray away from the wind shield, and it is amazing how really big this small engine sounds with it.

My next project will be the Aero A 102 I've got at the beginning of this year, using a Saito FA 325 R5. Well, I must say I enjoy our hobby really the most...

Gnome, love the Monocoupe. Is it the Velie? Looks like a great combination. Liked the way you snuck it in just over the corn and greased it on. Great flying. That has got me fired up to take the PO-2 out for a few turns around the patch. Thanks for the video. DWR.

I have a saito 90 r3 radial engine mounted on a 60 size Corsair, it flies just fine ,but could have needed a little more power.
So my question is ; is it possible to change the cylinders and pistons on this engine to bigger ones?? since the house on it also is used on the 170 r3 ,i thought it maybe could work ,but of course the mounting dimensions of the cylinders have to fit.

Hello Nils,
the FA-90-R3 has a stroke of 16mm and the FA-170-R3 19.2mm. So, You can't upgrade the FA-90-R3 to the bigger displacement only with the Cylinders and pistons. As the stroke is more than 3mm longer, I don't think that the crankcase is really the same.

DWR, the Monocoupe has a wing area of about 1370 square inch (span is 79'') and weighs ready to fly about 3.5Kg, it's built very light and fragile. The Tehnopower weighs about 850gr and fitting the receiver battery and onboard glow driver battery in front of the tank was enough to balance it correctly.
What is the weight of the OS?, may be it's too heavy?

Gnome, wow, if I figured it correctly the Techno radial is just under 2 pounds and the all up weight is 7.7 lbs. The OS weighs 6 lbs without the driver system. It would have to be a pretty big Velie to get reasonable flight charateristics. The OS is heavy for the power it produces so it is better suited to biplanes. Thanks for the additional info. DWR.
