I have a question regardinng a spinner nut for a Saito .91S and a FA-100. I plan on using the .91S in a Sig Four Star 60 and the FA-100 in a Sig Astro Hog. I have used plastic spinners on a FA-65, only to have them break or split. On the .91S and FA-100 I was planning to use a spinner nut, such as the Higley aluminum or brass nuts. I have used them in the past on 2 cycle engines and I'm pleased with them. What is your experience with the spinner nut on my .91S and FA-100? Also, if I were to use them, do you recommend using the Saito prop nut and locking nut with the spinner nut? For anyone who answers, thank you in advance.

hmmm. Looks like I'm in the right place for this question,...

I do own an 82a and it's on a GP U-Can-Do 46. Great setup! Love the engine.
I can’t tell you how often club members come up to me after a flight and ask “what’s in there? Sounds greatâ€. 100+ flights, no dead sticks (once ran out of fuel..)

So now I have an Ultra-RC Katana that needs an engine. The plane with an OS 1.6 comes in around 10 pounds complete. So,....
I don't really want the OS 1.6. I would rather go with gas. But I have to consider a Saito for this bird since the 150 is so light.

My only concern is fuel consumption for a large Saito. I have to say, my 82a is a lush for glow fuel. I really can't fly for more than 10 minutes. Ideally I would prefer a bit more fly time on a tank. I think the 82a goes through just under 1oz per minute.

What can I expect from a 150? 2oz per minute?

To out do a OS 160 you need the Saito 180.

The Saito's lust for fuel is because the needles are set too rich

hi!!

I have a KMP tigercat and I plan to put 2 saito 125 in it,
would you trust 2 saito125 on twin engine plane?

I have a saito 100 in h9 p51, i love this engine but i had some minor problem

some tell me that os engines are a better choice for a twin plane

Will the high speed needle valve from the FA-56 fit the FA-50? I lost mine and need a replacement Horizon doesn't have any.

Ken6- running the fuel out on a 4S does little (if anything) to prevent rust.

I agree that it is nowhere nearly as effective as with a two-stroke engine, but it couldn't hurt.

If anyone has any input on twin installations of Saitos please let us know.
I have just finished running in S125a's for a Black Widow.
Will also be running engines horizontally, onboard glo, Perry pumps, so I hopeo I have everything covered.

Saito was the next choice after some hiccups with the RCV's which meant i could no longer trust them to a twin.

mboland,

It sounds like you have everything covered. I can't think of any reason the 1.25's shouldn't perform well. It is a good strong engine. As with any new installation, I would do alot of ground test to be sure before going airborne.

Question on the turbo muffler being installed on a saito? I have a 180 that im thinking about putting into the H-9, 150 P-47. Does this muffler give any noticeable increase in power?

I have a saito 180 that started backwards and ran at half throttle and got hot now it leakes fule and the crankshaft moves in and out more than before and I am getting a noise comming from around the cam,I want to adjust the valves but how do I get rid of the play in the crank shaft. this engine has new bearings and the valves were adjusted one flight ago

Well how is saito with warrantys? I have a new 72 that died in flight and now the shaft is stiff to turn. If I sent it in will they help me fix it for cheap/free as its new? Only had 9 flights on it after the ground break-in.

They are pretty good especially if you have the sales receipt from new and its under 3 years old.

Sounds like the big end of your rod is bound up on the crank pin?

It was rebulit by horizon and all was well till it ran backwards and heated up

Parker,
The anti-freeze thing is no joke! I have been doing this for years. Take the back plate and the valve cover off and the glow plug out. Immerse it in anti-freeze, heat it up and keep it hot for a couple of days and then turn it off and let it sit for a couple more. You won't believe how nice the engine is after you rinse it off, dry it and oil it up again. Compressed air helps to dry it if you have it. The stubborn spots and muffler may need a little help with a small wire brush but it is amazing how clean they get.

Hey guys, #108 here

I just finished remodeling my GP SpaceWalker which has been retired for about a year. I pulled the Saito .91 out of storage and hooked her up. I had removed the plug and HS needle , oiled and bagged it. Now Im having trouble getting it to run. First off , Im guessing at the HS needle setting to start with and ,dont think I moved the Idle adjustment before storage. I removed the carb made sure it was clean and reversed it to allow inverted installation this time. So, I can turn the prop and only if I plug the muffler for a couple seconds , it fires and runs fast for 1 second the quits.. Im getting a pretty good amount of fuel blowing back from the carb so I varied the HS a bit. My thinking is that if I have to "plug" ( with my finger ) the muffler to get it to fire , Im causing more fuel to enter the carb. So that would tell me Im lean. ?? Leaning out the HS needle doesnt help. I have never had one of my Saitos do this so Im puzzled. Usually a bit of a prime is plenty and they fire right up and continue to run even if crappy until you have a chance to go WOT and start adjusting. But as soon as the engine fires it quits again. I have installed new tank and plumbing and everything checks out there. I have read so many threads , my eyes are watering! Any one have a suggestion as to where i might begin.??[] Or may be you have some questions for me. I know this is very little info to diagnose a problem with.

Im at a loss so, any and all suggestions will help to get things squared away.

So Far I know :
good glow plug
fresh fuel
fuel tank and lines check ok
I blew it out with my compressor before installing it
It has always run great, and is well broken in

It's getting a lump of air in the fuel line from somewhere? are you sure you tank is not too low? Sounds like the fuel prime is running back into the tank and the air is conming out of the carburetor?

Thanks, thats a good starting point because i did have the filler hose and the muffler pressure hose crossed at first. Could still be a problem there afterall. I will recheck.
