W8YE,
I stand corrected on the stacks on the larger engines.

All:

It is now established that the ($6.75) SAI50GK93 stack fits all engines from the FA-56 up to and including the FA-100, also the FA-125.

For the FA-120, FA-150, and FA-180 the more expensive ($14.20) SAI120S93 stack is the one to get.

Hobbsy tells me the FA-220 comes with the stack as standard.

Hope this settles the questions.

Bill.

Bill,
I recently purchased the velocity stack SAI50GK93 for my Saito 100 and it's a perfect fit, an o-ring sealed the gap. And yes Bill, I promise to use an air filter. Functional and adds a little more detail, well worth the $6.75.

Well..... I guess we got this one wrapped up! Great info from all who responded to the 'stack' enquiry. Thanks guys. I've added two of these to my shopping list.

Cheers from the Barfly.

Barfly:

But did you add the Bru-Line fine mesh air filters to your shopping list also?

Bill,

This list will come from Hobby Shack in Singapore, my local Saito stockist. I don't believe they carry the Bru-Line filters. I figured I'd check some specialist filter suppliers around K.L. to see if I can jury rig something. Getting the stacks is the first step, and that's sorted.

I checked the carb on the 1.00, the bore is 8.5mm, and you said the stack is 8.0mm. I am a little concerned about that. If the stack wall is thick enough I guess it could be reamed out? I would expect it will have an impact on needle settings, maybe a negative. Any further thoughts on this?

Cheers from the Barfly.

Barf:

I just eyeballed the bore with an ordinary vernier caliper. Hobbsy told me he measured the one he has at 8+ mm, and that the stack bore was still larger than the bore of the throttle barrel itself on the FA-125. I don't think there will be any worry.

I planted my Funtana today and broke the crank, FA91. When I get a new crank I'll be bugging you.

Sorry to hear that, and surprised too. Saito cranks usually bend rather than break. You must have made a really hard landing.

Having hit that hard you'll want a set of bearings also.

I didn't think of that. I guess I'm still punchy. Somebody said that the way to become a great pilot is a dumpster full of crashed airplanes. The latest formula was blender>inverted flat spin>knife edge spin>too low to recover when I stalled the elevator trying to go to a harrier for exit and forgot to throttle up. Kind of kool to watch. I don't reccomend it.

I have a 1.80 on a H9 Edge 540. I'm having a problem on downlines, the engine quits. I was thinking of installing an Iron Bay regulator. I initally had a Perry VP 30 on it, but I felt that it was not getting enough on the high end and decided to rip it out. I changed all of the lines and am using large dia fuel line from the tank.
Anyone have experience with the Iron Bay with their Saito's? Are they better than Clines?

I also have a second 1.80 and a 72GN also. Love em!

Oh saito gods, I need your help. I have a 100 that I can't getting running. It would start but not keep running. I was making some adjustments without noting the base line on the high and low mixture. Now I can't get the mixture close enought to even start. Atleast that's what I think the problem is. Where is a good starting point for the low and high? Any other ideas whould be appreciated. It is drawing fuel and the glow plug is getting hot. Thanks in advance for any help.

Ok guys,Im still new to the Saito and Im kinda lost on tuning my 1.50.I bought it on a Goldberg Ultimate from a member here.It has more than enough power for the plane, but isnt very reliable idling.Today I was messing around trying the tune to peak and then drop 300rpm thing and never could get it rich.Twice,I opened wide open and screwed high speed needle completly out of the carb, with no change in rpm(roughly 9000 w/ 16x6 APC).I screwed it completly shut and brought it out 5 turns, and got good smoke this time, but needle adjustments made little diff either way.Trash in carb, air leak??????I didnt count the low speed needle, never got that far.
heres what I have
1.50,not sure of the exact model,it is identical to my other FA-1.50
carb has stack
30% coolpower heli fuel
16x6 APC
Tried both os-f plug and hangar9 super plug

Thank you.You think the flusf with arm setting would be a good start on the 1.50.I know Im in more than that nowWhat is a realistic idle rpm for this setup?

2500 rpm would be a realistic idle.

Hi all,

Just wondering how much flight time I should expect with a Saito 72 and a 9 oz (260 cc) tank.

Thanks.

Thank you again w8ye,I guess Im gonna have to learn to land a little hot with the ultimate. My neighbor has a 1.50 in a SkyShark Edge that is waiting for decent 1st flight weather.Weve been "testing" fuel between us and I found some Powermaster YS-Saito 20/20, anythoughts on this over the 30% heli?

In an ideal world with a properly adjusted carb with velocity stack and filter you should get 1 minute per cube at WOT or close to 12 minutes.

We have to do that on here. Bill Robison has collected his "sayings on Saito's" into one clump and can send you a PDF file attachment which includes disassembling a Saito I'm sure. Send Bill a PM with your E mail address. He cannot send attachments through the PM system.

There's been a few people to rework one over the internet.

Now what is your first question?

Enjoy,

Jim

maxun:

We need to know which engine you have to give anything other than general advice.

I have almost all the Saito manuals in .pdf format, I can send whatever you want. And if requested I can send them all, but it might overflow your disc space.

And as Jim said, send a PM or email with your email address, necessary to send any of the files.

Bill.
