Default OS 75

Hi all ,I just noticed the os add here on rc universe stating that the os 75 was ringed and then when I clicked on it it showed that it is also ABL. Is this true or is this a mix up? Cheers the pope.

G'day Pope,
Bless you, my son.
I have an OS 75AX, & it aint got a ring.
Also it is one sweet running engine, I'm running an APC 14x8 prop, on my Diabolo, ran it in with a 13x7, great engine.

WOW! That's a lot of prop for a 75. What kind of RPM's are you turning?

G'day Ed,
I got 8,800 rpm, on the ground running slightly rich, measured last SUnday morning, before I flew with the 14x8. I don't prop for huge revs, as this engine is designed to turn larger props, quieter & slower, than some engines in the .75 size range.
Great engine.

The add that popps up on top of the glow engine forum actually says that it is ringed, but in reality it is just the same cheap nickel all over again: http://www3.omnimodels.com/cgi-bin/woi0001p?&I=OSMG4926

I bet it is a sweet running engine, lets just see for how long[X(]

Mine is definately not ringed and it's a great running motor. Mine started on the 3rd flick out of the box and has started on the first flick ever since.

I haven't bothered to tach it yet while it's still breaking in.

I have a suite of props to try once break-in is complete.

APC 12.5x6, 13x8 and 14x6
Bolly 12.5x6, 13.5x6 and 13.5x8

Personally, i think OS done the motor a dis-service by reccommending such large props. I have a hunch that it will really perform with props around 13x6

Alan,

Again, all I can say is WOW! That's some brute force. Good luck with your engine. I'll keep the OS 75 in mind for my next project.

O.S. recommends the propellers they do because they make the engine run much quieter. You can easily prop the .75 AX to nearly 12,000 RPM when leaned to just rich of peak RPM. This will give a lot more power, but also be a lot nosier. O.S. is recommending propellers that will allow the engine to run well, handle well, develop reasonable power, and still be quiet enough to pass the noise restrictions that are in place in many Asian and European countries. Some places have noise restrictions that are very, very strict, and the engine manufacturers have to account for this if they expect to have sales in those areas.
