HELP!!! What Savage did i buy? UPDATE !!!!
I bought this Savage roller off of eBay. I have not recivied the truck yet. The seller said its an SS but I am sure it's not.
Can anyone tell me by looking at the pictures what model it is ( 21 ,25 or ect)
And yes i am aware of the missing parts but i already have everything that appears to be missing in the photos.
I all ready have a 4.6 RTR I was thinking of throwing a motor in this one as a spare toy.
What cheap motor would work in this truck? It don't have to go fast or do wheelies or any thing like that.
Thanks

One of the best cheapest budget engines would be a Sportwerks 26 V2. They have tons of power, real quick, super easy to tune and run awsome. These can be had for about 130. You can also look at the mach 427, mach 26ss.

Definitivo - if I were looking for a cheap "throw it in and have fun" kind of engine for a Savage, the SW 26 is exactly what I would get...

Didn't the Savage 25SS come with those springs??
Those aren't X bumpers are they?

Looks like my 25! You might keep your eyes peeled on Ebay, they frequently sell new K4.6 engines for under 100 shipped. The Axial 28 is the same thing. There was a Picco P3 28 with a rotostart that sold for under 100 recently. That would have worked great! BB

Yea u got your self a Savage 21 there, might need to upgrade the driveline with a new motor in there. Never know some people have full metal driveline and have problems while people with plastic drivelines get along fine.

RE: HELP!!! What Savage did i buy?
Its hard to tell from the pics what your getting but there was not much difference between the 21, 25 and 25ss. SS just means it was a kit that had to be put together and since it has no engine or pipe then the only way left of knowing what model it is is by opening up the diffs. If it has the 4 spider gears and the cam style servo saver steering then its a 25 or 25ss. If it came with the ribbed pipe then that would have pointed to an ss also.

It probably doesn't have the four gear beveled diffs and a few small things like that, so be careful how much power you put to the wheels. 14mm hexes to...

RE: HELP!!! What Savage did i buy?
it may be a 21 or 25, the springs arn't stock i can tell you that, but if its the an SS like the guy said then it has to be the 21ss cuz the 25 ss or as hpi calls it savage 4.6 has dirt bones and split spokes, so i'ld put my $ on an SS,

RE: HELP!!! What Savage did i buy?
Thanks for the info guys i recivied the truck and looked it over and here is what i found so far.
It has adjustable upper a-arms , plastic diff housing, a servo mounted servo saver for the steering, the rubber plug on the trany only has two holes,
That all for now i will tear in to the diffs this weekend and see how many gears it has.
Thanks

RE: HELP!!! What Savage did i buy?
Well i took apart the rear diff and it has just the 2 spider gears. So if i read every thing above right i have a Savage 21.
I do have one question can i put the Savage X SS diffs in the 21's bulk heads ( housing that hold the diff/ring gear in to the pinion gear ) Or do i need the X SS 's housings also?
Thanks for the helps Guys

RE: HELP!!! What Savage did i buy?
Some early 25s had the crappy servo saver and 2gear diffs too. Ditto the early SS 25s.
Yes, you can put the X SS diffs in there. If you have the bulkheads torn apart, though, why not upgrade to the X plastics? Makes sense to me.

RE: HELP!!! What Savage did i buy?
Ok Thanks for the info.
I am trying to get this truck together as cheap as i can as it wil be a spare toy. I picked up a slighly used HPI .25 motor complete w/ pipe , roto start, clutch and bell and every thing i need to drop it right in to the truck off of eBay last night for less that $100. so once that gets here i am ready to roll.
As for the diff's i am not going to replace them till they go bad.

That looks like a tiny clutch bell on that motor. You might want to get a 15 tooth cause that looks like a 13, which means you will only go like 20mph. Stock comes with a 15 or a option 18 tooth.

Is it just me or does it look like it says "3.5" on the side of that engine?
