Default Balance question

I have been busy reading the links that you guys gave me
regarding the Imac rules and Sequence.

I have also been playing around with the trim charts and I have a question
on CG.

My Wild Hare Edge is balanced right at 3.75" back from the leading edge.
The specs. say 3.5 to 4 inches.... When I roll the plane inverted it flies level with no
input. On a 45 degree up-line if I roll inverted it seems like it almost wants
to climb, but stays pretty much on heading.

The trim charts I have seen do not address this, only if it climbs or falls....
Is it down to personal preference at this point, or should the plane
slowly arc down in a 45 degree up-line?

stays on course!QUOT!

Sounds little tail heavy. My Extra flew the same way before I added the spinner and a bigger battery up front, and now I feel it tracks better through the sequences. Not as good at 3D now.

I have gone through the same issue lately. I have two planes about the same size as yours. I was having issues with landing where the planes wanted to pull up when powered off and elevator released. I shifted the CG forward just slightly on both planes and now they fly excellent. I did not notice any difference in 3D performance, but I am not really good at 3D so take that with a grain of salt.

Doug Cronkite and a few other guys told me that as a general rule if a plane flies inverted with no down elevator input it is too tail heavy for pattern. There are some exceptions, but that rule certainly applied to me. Since I moved my CG forward, both planes use just a small amount of down while inverted and land very easily. Tracking is near perfect in all other trim modes.

Now if I could just move the sticks right to take advantage of it.... .

Sorry guys, I ment to say I balanced at 4.75 and the specs say
4.5 to 5 inches from the leading edge.

Anyway when flying level full power and I chop the throttle the plane
does not ballon up... it stay's level.

Another guy at the field has the same plane ballanced at 4.25. We
flew each others planes, and I liked the way his tracked, and
he also thought mine was a bit tail heavy.

Once my new spinner arrives I will rebalance at 4.25 or 4.5.
I also got the Troy built wing tubes (front and rear).

Thanks for the help.

Keep it a little tailheavy; 4.5" from the leading edge should give great tracking for IMAC. You shouldn't have to add much elevator on 45 lines at all. Set up the CG, so inverted +~ upright, and it snaps like a true autorotation.

Here's my $0.02

Great,
Thanks for the help guys... I am still waiting on the spinner,
but I think I will try 4.5".
