My Feedback: (6)
I have a Futaba 7C and wouldn't trade it for anything. The Futaba FAAST system hops more and uses more frequencies than any other 2.4 Ghz radio made. It features a lot of the same technology used by Futaba's 2.4 system for running robots in manufacturing plants worldwide. Making it the most widespread and thoroughly tested systems on the market.

Hey guy's thanks for membership into the brotherhood. The last radio I owned was a futaba skysport and an old futaba conquest,I know that ages me, but I don't have the pleasure of a flying club or several fellow flyers that can help,or stear me in the right direction on the 2.4 radios.I realy like the spectrum dx8 or the dx9, but like I said, I don't have any help other than my lhs which is about 70 miles away in Mobile AL. So if I ask you guy's in the brotherhood a lot of questions please be patient with me.From what I have learned so far,i know I would like somthing that is backlight and just plain ole user friendly, what do y'all sugest.
I love it! You're calling the radios that I use every day "aged", yeah - guess they are. But they still work just fine in the planes they were bought for originally, all those decades ago, so they just soldier on.
Hey man, questions and learning is what the b'hood is all about. You wouldn't believe the learning that goes on around here. I'm not the guy that's gonna speak on the new radios though, my newest plane this past March got a "new" radio when she took to the air - Futaba 4-ch 72MHz, no high-low, no mixing, just analog trims. Shoot, she doesn't even have a gauge for power anymore, just LEDs.
Works great though.

I have a futaba 8FGS, Spektrum DX8 and JR 12X. The easiest to program, the DX8. The most features, the JR. The worst to program is the Futaba, but when it comes to link performance, the Futaba wins hands down. It links to the RX in a blink where the JR and Specktrums can take up to 5 seconds. In a brownout condition, that could be the difference of landing, or crashing.
Cost wise, the Spektrums are the easiest to afford multiple planes with, the Orange RX for under $20 a pop work quite well with the Spektrum and JR. There are low end RX for the Futaba too, but they are more around the $40 mark. For Branded RX, Futaba are more than the JR/Spektrums by about 50%.

Imay try the DX8 or 9 being they are a little more user friendly to set up than the futaba. The main reason I want the radio is that I sure like the idea of flying several models, and the bnf with the new radios.

The field that I fly at is sort of rough,so what do some of you brotherhood guy's think of me installing a double strut fults nose gear and a fiberglass or aluminum main gear with larger tires( I will reinforce the floor above main gear and gusset the firewall very well) this is for my lt-40.

I have been working intermittently, on the rip template for the plug in 2 piece low wing, for my Kadet SR.
The flap has been driving me a bit nuts but I finally figured it out. I also drew up a rough 1/4 scale drawing of one wing section. It is to big to scan in one piece and I can't get a good picture of it.
Now that I have the flap figured out I will make a templates for it and the ailerons.
It will be a bit before any work starts. And I will be dividing my time between two other active projects.

Got to lookin at the different addresses in this thread and I thought it might be fun to see where everyone flys.
Here are my coordinates off of Google Maps. 35.862645, -114.940789
The two white lines mark the runway and if you can zoom close enough, yes it does say AARP

I know of 2 other flyers in Las Vegas, NV on a different site. I regularly post whit one guy in Las Vegas, NV. He is on a control line forum. but also flys RC mostly hellis.
This year I am grounded. 2 surgeries, more to come, and at this time I just tryin to get disability. I did not renew my AMA this year and don't yet have a home club to fly at. There are 2 within 20 and 30 minutes of me. One paved, and one grass. Grass is 1/2 the cost.
So it is just building and designing and not much actual building till at least next month (not working so not much $$).
I know you fly off of what looks like a dry lake bed. I had a buddy near 29 Palms that I would visit every couple of months or so. I had a pop up camping trailer and would take a bunch of planes and camp out at the flying site and fly and fly and fly. Loved it Even did that in the month of December. Dang it, it got cold at night but was nice during the day time. Had 2 large dogs (average of 100lbs) and guns to keep things safe.
A unlimited runway any direction you wanted was awesome. What fun it was.
More time on later on my new wing templates for the ribs.

Hang in there on the tough times, we have all been there and I'm no exception. It's good to have something you enjoy doing.

In my blissful ignorance I forget how many people are flying off grass. We have grass, but in smaller quantities. Most surfaces are hard and smooth or semi-smooth around here. Very unforgiving at times. Here is the other surface we use when the monsoons come, it's inside the Park and the older folks get a break on the cost of a Park Pass, looking forward to that. In the corner you can see a little white square which is the facilities the Park provides, it has claimed a few airframes mainly because we are so spoiled. After that are the coordinates of where we mosey over to for float flying.

Ya know this is what I get from my lawyers (one for disability and one form when we were hit at a red light). It is a waiting game to see who blinks first. Insurance companies want to stall and force you to take a lower and unfair settlement. And Disability delays to force you to have to take any kind of job so they can then deny you.
Well they have met a big ROCK!!!!
The rib templates are coming along. I actually THREE different pairs plus masters. Two for the wing ribs, two for the flaps, and two for the ailerons. I am really taking my time and doing plenty of rework because they were not dead on perfect, or I realized iI had overlooked something.
I am think Of foam core for the flaps and ailerons and then sheeted with either 1/16" or 1/8" sheet. Obviously with appropriate hard points for hinges and control horns and mount horns (flaps). At the wing trailing edge where the control surfaces join it will be 1 1/8" thick. Sound real thick but 4" control surface chords.
I have a total wing chord of 14.75" (lost my SR plans so I divided the total wing area on SIG'S site by the span to get chord).
The flaps and ailerons both will have a chord of 4". Flaps will span 20" each and ailerons will span 23.5" each.
I know my actual wing span will be greater than 102" because I am going to simply make each panel 51". So the fuse width will make for a longer span. My SR fuse is stashed in the attic. Anyone know it's width?.
Any one chime in here. Should my control surface sheeting be 1/6" or 1/8" sheeting over foam core.
