Actually need a copper nail also, the galvanized one (zinc) for + and the copper one for -, or vice versa. Would take thousands of lemons to produce any meaningful power.

Here is a "Kadet" just needs the fuse sheeted and the cabin enclosed

I know that airplane! I almost built one back in 2004 but I went back into R/C instead. I could build a lot of R/C airplanes for the comparable cost. There was a build of an R/C version over on Wattflyer site here is a picture of the model:

Well I made a mistake and put a brushed coat on the bird. It sure looked horrible. Poor thing was just gathering shop dust while I built a few other things. Today I got the spray gun out to try to fix things. Not real real good but decent enough for me to move on. One trim color, topcoat and I am done. Then assemble the parts.

It's good to see some progress, ET.

I finally maidened my rebuilt Senior Sport. It has surprising performance while flying on a 32 sized electric motor.

Tom, congratulations on that maiden flight. I followed your thread for ideas on this build. It was helpful. Thanks for posting. My LT-40 is plans followed but scratch built. I kept it same size as the kit version. It is quite a large plane. I'm anxious to finish it n get it flying.

Hey, congrats on your re-maiden Tom!

ET, plane looks good to me too. Any flaws must be minor enough that the camera doesn't show them. That usually means it's a good job, at least to me it does. Your final coats will probably take care of any little stuff anyway. Go for it!

Thanks guys. I looked at it yesterday and it does look better. Up close I can still see some brush marks. Maybe the topcoat will help hide these. I have it masked and will shoot the trim color today. Not anything fancy. Just get her done.

Sometimes you just have to walk away for a bit and come back and look.

From a distance Not too bad. Up close Not too good

i have to redo a course in Masking 101. I forgot to burnish the tape edge n got some bleeding n some rough lines. Plus some gaps in the masking allowed some misting into the white. I have to air brush some areas in the white. I did much better on my Ugly Stik build. Just need more painting practice n fine line tape. With left over supplies I will make a panel n practice. These are my first builds since the late 70's.

I'm flying a SPAD Debonair as a trainer getting back into flying. The LT-40 will be my second trainer plane. I still have to topcoat it and add some decals.

Looks good to me!

You can spray a thin coat of clear or base color on the tape edges before you paint, that stops the bleed through. A pinstripping brush would let you put a line of paint right on the border of the colors, it's is really easy to do and it makes the colors pop.

That would be a great application for one of those paint strippers that used a little wheel to apply the paint. I have one someplace. Anyone ever use one? I never did.

I think you have to be capable of drawing a straight line which leaves me unqualified!

Try pin striping a double row on a car with a small paint brush. OYVAY is that hard to do! Looks good though.

I still have a special striping brush from back in the fifties. Used it to pinstripe a MC, but never a car. Never tried to paint a double stripe.

In my case, I think using a pin stripe brush or roller will make it worse than what I have. I'm going to see if I can find some trim tape. I may add that if I can fine the tape. If not leave it as is. This will be a trainer plane.

I glued on the vertical n horizontal stabilizers. I will add triangle stock where they meet. These will be painted before install. I painted a scrap piece of wood. Sure enough burnishing the tape produced a nice clean line. That was my big mistake; not burnishing the tape.

I will test painting the base color or clear coat after taping before the trim color n see how that works.

.
I buy my trim tape from auto paint stores. They have a wide variety of colors and widths, and a much lower price per foot than hobby oriented tapes.

I was too cheap to buy those brushes, but now wish I had them.

I bought a pinstriping brush, they are not little like you would think, they have very long hairs and you want the paint to be almost tacky to hold on to the hairs an straighten them, that's what gives you the nice line.

Tom, thanks for that tip. Will check the auto paint stores next trip to the big city.

I saw a youtube video re free hand pinstriping with a brush. The guy had a super steady hand. A work of art.

PiperRon here... If the thread is still alive I'd like to be assigned a number as I am nearing the completion of my first kit build...an LT-25. I sheeted the wing and entire fuselage and then painted it. It's been a challenge but worth every hour I've put into it. It's basically at the ARF stage. I glued the tail on this morning. I'll try to insert a couple pictures here from a week ago.... Do I qualify.??

Love the LT25, You own my favorite Kadet of all time. I've owned three of them in the past 5 years. Just sold the last one to a guy who had to have it and I will be starting on another one soon.
