  • I recently purchased a D8 kit. Oh so many planes to build so little hangar space.

My 1/4 scale Fokker DVII. I just have to learn how to tune it. Its a bit different that my KCS 62cc gas motor. I think it sounds a bit "poppy". Almost like its firing a bit early. But perhaps it will sound better when its out of the garage and there are no walls to bounce the sound off.

The weather here is a day to day thing, no snow but wind. Nice day Monday, nice and warm winds around 7-8 mph down the runway. Took my Fokker D-VII out for the first time this year. All is good, it is going on its 7th flyin' season. Jeff will you be going to the Dawn Patrol in Dayton OH in September?

Lived in Florida for a few years, lots of BIG bugs. But the beaches were great, nice and white at Ft. Walton Beach and Destin.
I would like to go to the Dawn patrol but can't find a good place to register. Or is it just show up and sign up? It looks like a blast, and I could not think of a better way to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI. A co-worker asked if I would have to surrender my DVII at the end of the air show as the Germans did at the end of WWI. I told him I would just fly it to a neutral country.
I did a little putzing around with the gas conversion Saito. Instruction say to time it at 30 degree BTDC. It ran sorta rough. Re-timed it to 28 degree BTDC and its as sweet as can be. Now to get the high end going as smooth. It still dies about 1/2. but its getting there.

Nice S.P.A.D. Thanks Rich. I have all the information, and I will put it in the mail. I am already excited. I wonder if there is a VAQ on base?

I am sure there is VAQ but I didn't think about checking it out. Last time my friend and shared a room at the Red Roof Inn which was about a mile and half from the gate to the field. We split the cost of the room which worked our to about $35.00 a day. Maybe you could talk to someone to go ,with you the help with the cost. Also you should check out the VAQ, I think i"ll call or check it out on line.

Glad you are going this year you will love it.

Well the DVII has made its first flight. After some knee shaking and a final thought of " Do I really have to do this?" I sent it down the runway. No real surprise as it is a Balsa USA kit. It needed a few clicks of trim and then it flew like all the others I have built. Except for the fact that this one flies with no down trim on the elevator. I finally built one that flies with the tail surfaces level. A small victory perhaps, but it looks better in flying photos. I lost a screw or two from the bottom cowl, but no worries there. So all in all I put in 2 flights and even landed in a cross wind. I would never attempt that with my DRI. Its going to be a grand summer.

Jeff, happy to hear about your successful maiden flight, my knees always seem to be a little weak on the first flight. You have produced another beautiful Fokker D VII. Enjoy it.
