Default Just an idea

Tony,

Foot antislippery wing root surface was made with dry wet-abrasive-paper of 240 grit glued on the top surface of the bottom wing.

I think it looks very realistic.

Zor

Editing on 10 Sept. 2014.

Thanks to RCKen for instructions how to remove pictures.
Many hours of research including on the internet showed many others also could not delete their pictures.

The problem is that when bringing the mouse over the picture in one second or so the picture gets larger and covers the small ?X at the top right. That is what happens with my computer . You have to be fast to click the X or it disappear out of view as the pic gets larger.

Thanks again RCKen _ _ _ Your guidance can help others as well.

Zor

Daily progress.

All vinyl rivets and stitching's are completed.

Ailerons look good and will be really nice with paint on them.

Going to take a short break and then start on the glue drops for the stitching.

My paint arrived yesterday so all I need to do is get everything ready for a final yellow shoot.

Thanks Zor, I have been playing around with gluing some 400 grit wet dry sand paper also. I will see once the wing is painter, but I did framed the area so I could do that.

Glue drops are done on the top of the wing.
I will let these dry before I see if they need to hit them again.
Then flip the wing and do the bottom.

My plan is to paint the wing tomorrow morning.

Tony,
Love the gas level gauge in the wing. I'm saying, we need to Frank Tiano's attention to your model and get you an invite to Top Gun once you get this bird finished. I've covered Top Gun many times and I can tell you that the level of detail on your plane so far easily matches anything I've seen at Top Gun through the years!!!

Thank you Ken, This chippie is sports scale but that's just me. Now when I finish Angie that will be more refined and I could see that plane at least showing at a Top gun or scale masters event. I have been told that you cant compete with the big boys at Top Gun if you do vinyl rivets and smaller panel lines like I have (1/64). That the detail all needs to stand out from a distance. I don't like to build (wont) that way just so I can qualify some judging criteria. I would rather build as scale as I can and then compete, using all the skill and techniques I find fit to deliver the look and detail I want, then let the cards fall where they fall, win place or show.

Frank can take a look and see if he would like to invite me

Second round of glue drops to the stitching.

I hit the stitching again with glue. The first always shrinks and looks very flat.

You can see in this pic the two lines on the left have the second application of glue, and the one on the right is the first application.

They don't need to be really big, just not flat.

This looks better.

Once this dries I will do the bottom.
I am trying to get ready to shoot paint in the morning, we will see.

I am doing last minute details on wing as I get it ready for paint. I wont paint today as weather should be better, (cooler and less wind) tomorrow morning.
This will give we time to get everything ready and to relax into the stress of this yellow

here are the wing root stall inducing strips.

Some rivets around the fuel gages.

I will get back to setup on the fuselage later today and if all goes well I should be able to start the stencil painting on Friday.
This will get me done with painting by Tuesday and then I can do final setup and test run ups for a later in the week maiden

Getting to know Tony's building abilities I was avoiding asking for quite a while.

I spent over three hours yesterday trying to find a way of removing ( deleting ) the two Skybolt pictures I posted in #701. It was to illustrate the non-slip area of the wing roots top.

I believe the pictures do not fit well in this thread and intended to remove them after a while.
I cannot find a way of removing these two pictures in this forum.

If anyone knows how, a PM would be appreciated.

Thanks from Zor.

Zor,
It's a very simple procedure to delete the pictures you have posted to the thread above. Open your post back up to edit it, then click in the lower right hand corner "Go Advanced". Once you are on the Advanced options area scroll down until you see Manage Attachments, and then open that up. While in there you can see the pictures you have posted, you can select each picture which will then have an small box in the upper right corner, select this to delete the picture, Once you have all the pictures selected you want to delete select Done in the lower right corner of the Manage Attachments box.

Hope this helps

Ken,

It sure helped.

I have edited post #701 and added some comments you may have a look at.
I had done the procedure you described many times but bringing my mouse over the pic resulted in my operating system by enlarging the small thumb at which time the ? and the X was covered within a fraction of a second and not being a fast computer user I could not see these small upper right corner appearances that lasts less than a second on my system.

Thanks again and please clean up this out of topic matter.

I am convinced that your explanations are beneficial to many particularly in other threads.

Some progress today, got the wing and all the parts ready to paint tomorrow. Lots of painting jigs to hold all the hatches, ailerons, flaps and gear fairings.

I am working on the fuselage with installing the second receiver, and the remaining wires.

I should be able to paint all the black stencils on Friday then all that will be left is the four circles, two on the wing and two on the fuselage.

Tony your rivets and attempt at good stitching is impressive, problem is the lack of a uniform stitch, something you can't get with glue. Why wouldn't you do the threads on a nail board and iron on the Solartex just hot enough to stick it then cut the strips to your scale width. It's very easy to do as I did that on my SW as you know. There is a bit of technique to eliminate any air pockets and in the covering pinking tape that should go over them This would be a piece of cake for you with your skills.

Leroy, I'm just winging it and did not want to put to much into the stitching on this sports scale bird, they will be fine and if I were doing a built up wing I would have covered in solartex and done proper stitching.

Painting update.

I took the 8oz can of the paint KK sent me and shaked the piss out of it with my sawsall. I mixed it with the catalyst using a small paint mixer on my drill, let it cook and by the time it was ready for thinner it turned orange. I thinned it anyways and painted a small part just to make sure.....its orange.

I just mixed up the last 8oz of the first paint while I am all set up, maybe I will get lucky, this really sucks.....

How about taking the new can to the local paint store and have them shake the devil out of it in their machine? Grasping at straws here.

Tony you have had your fair share of problems with this paint and thats a bummer given all you have done. I have painted alot in my life and ran across mixing problems with some paints. What happens is the different weight pigments in the mix settle in the bottom of can in the order of weight and the longer it sets there the firmer it gets. If you drag a stir stick across the bottom of the can and lift it out you will see what I mean. Shaking alone will not free it up alone, it takes a stick to get the pigment lose from bottom of can or an impeller mixer on a drill will churn it up pretty good also giving you a good mix before the reducer is added and then finish up the mix with the impeller. If the paint sits more than 10 min. between the times you put more in the gun pot it needs to be stired again, the different pigments will start to seperate again. Shaking can cause another problem, airating the paint (filling it with tiny bubbles) aspecially two part urethane colors and clear coats, those paints should never be shake mixed, impeller or stick mix is the propper way to mix those paints.

Automotive paints are not typically shake mixed, they are stired, and thats about what you have and possibably why you are having those problems.

Leroy
