Tom I took the time to review your whole build, another nicely done build. I really enjoy seeing an old standard made into an old classic, you do well to show how easy you can change the character of a pretty basic model.

Nice all around job,

Leroy

Thanks, Leroy.

Converting the Kadet Senior into a Senior Sport wasn't difficult. I feel that by doing that, it drastically changed the look of the model.

What really amazed me, though, was how the covering selection and graphics can change one's impressions of an airframe.

Here is a pic of my Kadet Senior Sport ARF to compare to my kit built version. See what you think.

Hi like the looks of yours much better. Especially with the flat wing.

I have your blue one in red but I like yours better. Something about the same-O same-O look that isn't that appealing any more, every one has one. You can make most any plane look better (stand out at the field) with a little creativity which I see in a lot of yours. I'm thinking about recovering mine and give it a face lift. I too like Ultra-Cote and have had very good results with it.

The Blue one was mine. The wing broke, during flight.

I really like the way that it flew, but it couldn't withstand the stresses that I placed on it.

You'll like yours, Leroy. They fly very well, and will slow down to a crawl, in flight.

Tom, maybe it is just me but as I followed the build and watched as you built in some of the little little design features like the color choice and outline of the door I thought....that's kind of cool. But now after the graphics it is obvious you had a plan and saved the best for last. Is there a picture of a plane you were patterning after or just out of your head? Either way awesome results!!

Tom, You DID have a plan, didn't you? Very nice ! The 30's Shell Oil theme is great. Thanks again for sharing (so I can steal some of your ideas).

On the day that the wing was mounted, my friend Tom, and I were shooting the bull, in my shop. Shoptime discussions can lead to "Epiphany Moments." LOL

I had a round cowl that I thought might look good on the Kadet. This led me to the "discovery" that simple alterations, like cowls, color schemes and graphics could drastically alter one's impressions of an airframe.

Since I usually build scale models, I think along those lines. As I have mentioned, I am also building a Lockheed Vega. In my documention, I have pics of a Vega in Shell livery. It struck my fancy, especially the yellow with red accents.

I've seen pics of aerial survet aircraft, and decided that the Kadet might look good, if I went that route.

I found the Shell-Penn logo online. The rest were my ideas, but Decal-it turned them into reality.

Here are the pics, from which my idea was derived.

The cowl proved to be too large, so I went with a cowl for the Kadet Sport ARF. A friend says that he has a round cowl, that may be usable, so there may be a cowl swap in the future. If there is, I'll post the pics, here.

Also, in my pics, I don't have the wing struts installed. I did build them, though, and they are a nice addition to the overall impression put forth by the model.

Being the wiseacre I am I just had to run the N number through the database. I was disappointed it wasn't in use so I could razz you about.

I used that font on the N Numbers for my Cessna 195. I liked it, so I asked Gary to use it again, on the Kadet.

The numbers were chosen at random.

Tom .... I'm in here. Great post so far. Work has me traveling a lot. Mainly day trips within 200 mile radius. Add in being a full time single Mr Mom of a couple of girls. Shop time has been rare and precious.
Stark... I was thinking same thing. Experimenting on an Eaglet 50 flap mod. I purchased some airfoil turbulator strips for an eflight carbon cub to try out as the LE slats would just add too much weight to a 50" wing.. Goal is a super stol Kadet.
Toiled over the TElemaster also but there is nothing like a Kadet. Nothing like supporting Sig. And nothing like the Bhood.
Plan is to build the 3ch wing for training and a modified wing for me. This is a good thread for helping get me motivated and find some time.

on the subject of Finishing variants.. Have you seen Pauls variants? I like the Mr Mulligan Mod and the Mooney. The push Pull twin is cool also. Serious kit bashing but very creative.

Tom, I located your decal maker http://www.decal-it.com/ , but what set do I ask for when I contact them ? The Shell set, sized for the Senior of course. And also, what shade of yellow film is that, that you used to cover with ?

Thanks again. You are my R/C inspiration !

Ed

Gary may still have the files. He may not.. You'll have to ask him.

He tried to Skype me today, but I was in the shop. I'll ask him, if we connect, later today.

If he doesn't have the files, just tell him what you want. Gary will then tell you what info he needs from you.

I found the logo. Save it to your files.

I used Ultra Coat Dark Yellow to cover the airframe. Gary used the color that he has. It was close, but not a perfect match.

Thanks again Tom, we are really rolling now. What's the cord " on the Senior ? I'm calculating how much China Coat I'll be needing.

There will be a Shell oil crew flying in the West also.

I don't know the measurements, Ed, but I used just over 3 rolls of Ultra Coat.

Oaky doky, I will be alright. I just ordered an electric 46 to use in it. It should make for a nice scale speed flying combo.
