ET that LT-40 will be the perfect plane to get you flying again. Love mine(though the T-Clips 70 is even more fun).

As for spending all winter on one plane, Cloth and dope takes forever to do compared to monojoke. If I did iron on, I could have several done by now. My Biper Cub is in painting stages now, and found out too late that the yellow needs white or silver under it first. Oops, no wonder its taking so long.

Speaking of builders check out this web site ... I've seen Carl come out after a winter of building
with 3 new GS planes one spring a couple of years ago,

Now THATS a builder! There is one shot that if it weren't for the obviously phony pilot, you could not tell it was a model.

I sure would love to fly the LT-40. Right now I am dead in the water. The last 2 days have been heavy rain all day. The rain meter reads 3.5". This is in addition to all the rain since January 1. I have some very soggy fields here. Yesterday I got my truck stuck in the mud. Today, my tractor and I pulled it to the pavement. It will probably be April before things get dry enough to try to fly again.

But it that is not the worse part. Today I was expecting my balsa shipment from Sig. Instead I get an email from UPS that due to the adverse weather my shipment is delayed. So now I don't know when the balsa will arrive. Just one of those days.

I am not that knowledgable regarding balsa. I am a returning builder and just started building again. I found that my LHS are not stocked to support the builder. So I ordered from Sig. I just ordered by size and not by any quality of the balsa. I was well pleased with my first order. It was well packaged and probably in the A-B grade. It is a bit harder than some Midwest balsa that I found locally. I like the balsa to be harder rather than softer. Although some softer for wrap around sheeting is nice to have. I am awaiting my second Sig order. I may need to order from some of the other balsa suppliers to do some comparison.

Micheal's Craft stores have a Midwest Balsa selection, a good source if you're not making a bulk purchase

My LHS has a scale in the balsa area its amazing how much the density varies for the same size. I bought a 4 X 48 X 3/8 piece and there was a 50+ gram difference between sheets!

At least your hobby shop carries 4X48" balsa. Mine carries only 3X36".

That sucks! Mine carries 3 X 26, 4 X 48, and some 6 X 48 (but in only one or two thickness).

I have a laser cut kit from National Balsa for a P-61, full kit, and all the wood in it is good quality, so when I go to get wood for a P-40 and B-25 I will get it from there, the prices are pretty good too. Of course if ht bulk prices are close to the kit, I will get the pre-cut kit for the B-25.

I got to use my building super powers this week ! hahahahah

A friend in the club came by an airplane that was way more broken than it should have been ..for the price.. It was a big high dollar 3d arf. 6 days later a few major issues and a few minor issues done, and covered, and out of here.. I did it real cheap because I could.. He and his friend were pretty happy when they picked it up.. There is no doubting that..

How guys can spend all winter building one plane is beyond me - unless it is a super scale something or you are still working a demanding job!
I used to build about 6 planes a year but these days I have slowed way down but that is more of a money thing, I have the time but now days I'm in no hurry. I got out to the shop and epoxy in some parts then go out the next day and epoxy in a few more.
I have been cutting a couple new kits but ran out of wood so when I get around to it I will get the wood and finish cutting the kits. No rush, I have a lot of other things to do and I like to read. I have just been slowing down the last couple years and building is taking a back seat these days. I'm no longer building for customers and I have enough planes on hand to fly. I can understand people just working on one plane a year now. Took me a while but I got it figured out now.

I thought that was what ARF's where for, then you can take it out and treat it like the ugly step sister. to watch all the ARFinites Cringe.

2 Simple Solutions 1. Sell'em 2. Sell the kids and use their rooms for Airplane storage. When My daughter left, finally at 23 I cleaned out her room (What a Mess) and filled it up with air planes so she couldn't come back. I'found out last year that if U stand the Big ones on the spinner U can get a lot more in the room.

LOL I bought a 6x12x6 enclosed trailer last year to store my planes in. The flip side, dont have to load them up to take to the field, however, I sold my tow vehicle last night, so can only take whatever planes fit in the Freestyle now, but thats OK, only plane that wont fit is one I never have flown and am seriously considering selling. Its a CARF Extra 330L with a DA 100. If I do sell it, I will most likely sell it without the radio gear and motor, just the plane itself. The rest of the stuff is worth much more to me than I could ever get for them. Servos can always be used on something else, the motor, thats a tricky one, but still something that can be used, its a twin so has to go into a plane with either a round cowl as a Corsair or Jug, or something like a really big Cub, taylor craft etc.

Building is one thing, fitting them out with radio gear and engines, quite another!
