Nice work on those wing tips, that is for a "greenhorn" ! LOL

Well, I got a tiny bit done tonight. I think I've probably said this... I don't know... a few hundred times, but life just get too dang busy!

Started in on the ailerons. Got the ribs cut and sanded to the exact shape per the plans, then started gluing them in place. But time ran out and I'm tired!

I think what makes it nice is those ribs were not "Die-Crushed" pieces so everyone of them were shaped the same. Line up the TE, hold the rib against my combo-square, put on a drop of CA and... VOILA!

Now I think I will need to make a trip to my LHS, I'm pretty sure not all the kit parts made it through the storage process before I got it.

I wanted to get the ailerons finished up last night, but as usual time was not on my side.

At any rate, I got to pull out my good ol' little Dremel table saw for some precision fitting of some of the parts. I am sure glad my parents bought that thing for me when I was a kid, best present I ever got! Sanding was very minimal, just cut it right and there ya go!

Before I glue the top sheeting in place, I want to get the hinges ready to go. Planning ahead this time so that I don't have to try to cut into the things after it's all together.

Looks good David, don't forget to add some blocking in there for the control horns! I love that table saw, looks to be just the right size...

Where do you get your tablesaw blades? I have the same saw I bought about 10 years ago from a garage sale (Only $50!) I got it and the Dremel Belt Sander.. I have been buying a little carbide tipped blade from Harbor Freight it was all I could find at the time.

Thanks VJ. The blocks are in there. You can see them in the last photo.

I get my blades at Harbor freight as well. They don't last long though if you use them on harder wood. I need to see about the carbide tipped blades for that. In fact, it's probably time to get another blade. I wonder if they may be available through Amazon?

I like it David! I follow along at about that same pace... so it will go well for both of us.

The plane looks great!.... I'm inspired now myself to clean up my shop a bit, and ponder a build. I'd always wanted a Dremel Mini saw like that. They quit making them at about the time that I could afford it(that was a great gift.. they're not cheap.. haha..), so I ended up with a Micro-Mark type... as I couldn't find any Dremel saws, used or otherwise. The Micro-Mark works well though...and those types of tools are very handy.

I've been tossed between 3 possible builds for quite a while... so we'll see... but seeing your work makes me want press on and make a decision. Now I'm off to HarborFreight myself to redeem one of their "freebie" coupons, and probably pick up a few cheap things I don't need too..

Hey, since you're headed to Harbor Freight, why don't you pick me up a couple 4" blades. I'll take one standard and one carbide. Then drive on down to Reedley and I'll even let you buy me lunch too!

After reading through your build thread, I realized I had built a Nosen 40 Citabria. So I dug out the plans and took a photo of the wing tip front view. I hope this helps....

Would love too David, I just caught your message upon my return from HF though. Seriously I'd love to jump on my scooter and ride out there and see your plane up close when the weather is better. I'll check with you first and see if you'll need some saw blades then of course.

The newer HF here in Clovis is very handy and it seems to be bumpin all the time... today was no exception, as the check line(s) were several people deep, and moved right along.

I was going to do a little more running around, but the weather alert came on for our area, so I just opted to cruise home just in case. Doppler's showing some strong cells out there today... some possible for Reedley as well..... so hold on to your hat... It looks like a good building day.

Wow! Wish I was in the Ranchos now doing some storm chasing! Yeah, if you're ever itching to get out on a ride, better call first, a lot of times I'm not here or I'm busy with... "other stuff".

Okay, so I want to show y'all what I came up with to make hinging my ailerons a bit easier, see if you have any comments like "HELL NO! THAT AIN'T GONNA WORK!" or "Hey, that's a really good idea!" Personally, I prefer the latter. Anyway, I created some pockets and CA'd them to the bottom of the top sheeting, then took them back to my good ol' Dremel table saw to get the correct angle so they fit right behind the LE piece. So, before I glue it all down and seal it up, any comments?

It looks like it lines up I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work. I say go for it!

Congratulations David! The nerve of her...LOL

Your idea of the hinge pocket is interesting and intriguing to say the least. I guess as long as your measurements are accurate it will work just fine. You certainly did think outside of the box!

LOL! Yeah, you should have seen her, looked like a huge watermelon! We used to compare to see who was going to deliver first, me or her... she won!

And thanks guys. Now comes all the diapers and whatnot. Fortunately for me they live with his parents (until they can get on there feet with a house and all).

Okay, back to the build. Ailerons are as done as they will be for now, I'm setting aside the wing and going to work on the fuse.

Take care,
David

Since there wasn't anything on to watch today... I decided to set outside and go over the build for the fuse. I want to keep the tail feathers as light as possible so I don't have to add a whole lot of weight to the nose. This is going to be electric so I will see how far forward I can get the battery. I'm considering cutting a hole through the firewall and possibly putting a hatch in the bottom of the cowl to insert the battery. I will see how the CG is as I go along. Any other thoughts on keeping the tail light?

Here's a photo of the wing to this point and what I accomplished on the fuse as well... which ain't much.
