Sig somethin extra canopy mounting
I'm just finishing up my Sig Somethin Extra kit and I'm just wondering what the best way to mount the canopy on it is. It has a thin section of wood in the back so I don't know if I can find really small screws in the back for it or just screw it in on the front end of it. I just want to not have to glue it on there, are there any other suggestions?

I secured mine using covering material, but if I did it again, I'd use a few very small allen head screws on the bottom edge and a strip of covering on the back edge

wow, thanks...Your plane looks awesome. This is only my second kit but I don't think I did too bad on it. Some of the covering is messed up but I think it'll still fly. I figure it looks good enough to fly, it'll probably come to the ground hard sometime anyways.
Thanks!!
Thanks!!

I use canopy glue and 1/4" pinstriping from an auto paint supply store. It holds really well and comes in many colors and sizes, goes around curves very well. Good luck on that SSE-low rates are highly recommended for the first flight! Here's a shot of my Venture 60 with silver pinstripe treatment.

That looks clean yel914. Didn't think to use both.
I second using the low rates for the maiden. Nice to turn them up once you're used to the plane or just set them on a dual-rate switch.

I used only covering and it lifted around the bottom edge after a few flights. I did add a small screw at the front of the canopy which keeps it in place. If I did it again, I'd still use the covering but also add 3-5 small screws to tack it down. If I had canopy glue though I'd use yel914's method described above and no screws.
Do a subject only search for "canopy" and "glue"... don't forget to tick the advanced search box. The stuff is sold under another product name that, if I recall correctly, is available at most craft stores.

For the last 4-5 planes, I've also used the Pacer 560 glue (dries clear), but I also use the Fourmost Canopy trim around the base of the canopy.
It really sets off the canopy and just makes it look professional.
Sorry that I don't have a pix as I'm at the office, but here's a link for you to see it:

Good luck with yours (it sure would look great with a cobalt blue dye job and the black trim!).

Most people use RITT dye. Not all of the plastics will take it without mixing in salt and vinegar and other mixes. If you pull A search here on RCU there must be about 100 different threads on doing it. Depending on the colors I also dye my APC props to match the plane. Yellow is not one of the colors to try on your props. Ask me how I know that. [8D] I do know Red and Blue come out great.

Easter egg dye may work, it all depends on the plastic. You can test with the parts that you trim off the canopy pac.
I've always used RITZ dye with varied success. Sometimes it works great and other times I don't know why I bothered.
I've finally gone over to spray paints with great success.
I've always thought of canopies as an easy job, like putting on the landing gear, but they can be a challenge.
