To all on this thread

Yea I have been on this thread sence 6 of 05 but I joined out of desperation (I needed help) so I also say thanks for the kind words. In my desperation I have learned a great deal as I now have a great flying Corsair, and if the weather and days off from work ever get together I will be great to fly this season.

For the new guys to the thread all I can tell you is if you have a question don't be afraid to ask it. Becouse as I see it the only dumb question is the one that DOES NOT get ask. I konw some of the guys have moved on but I see they are still lurcking in the background and will most likely give you great ansures.

OK Bob,

Here is one. I am starting to build the wing tip panels and need to know if there is and angle gauge for dihedral. Here is what I found in the kit and it seems to match the picture in the instruction manual. Of course as you know well the panel is built upside down so tell me if this picture is correct. If not tell me what you did please.

Thanks a lot,

Barry

Barry, I would just build it square. The center spar sets the dihedral.

Barry

I am with Tbolt build it perpendicular to the spar, but just tack it in place. If your going to add gear doors (depending on dia.of your wheels you may have to move the aft section of the rib out board) see page 16 center # 3
When you add the the outher spar make sure the ends are square and perpendicular from you buildind board.

Hpoe this helps

Hi Folks, I started the Corsair build a couple days ago and other than having missing parts it has gone together pretty well. My question is this. How is everyone figuring out where thier panel lines and such should go. Since it isn't to scale I can't find a decent decimal number to use.
Thank you in advance.
Oh and if you guy's want I can post all my pictures of the build.

Hi Mrrandyman

The pnl lines as shown on the back of the manual is about the best I have found, and as you know this bird was mostly spot welded so a double row at each line is realy all you need to give the effect, and for size I would check in overon the 1/6 scale build under RC SCALE,

And Please do post pic;s of your build

Have drummed up some motivation to get my plane airborne finally. Am due to return from the sunny gulf coast this weekend and will see if I can get her up. Vacation is great but it sure does bite into a guys airplane season. Will post some shots of the guts of my bird when I go througgh the punch list that still exists (a short one at least). Will see if the 2.4 system and a moved throttle servo and switch get rid of my interference problem

Hi folks
Here are the first set of pictures of my current build. I hope they will help someone. Please let me know if you see any problems as I go along.
I'm thinking of leaving the sheeting to the last untill I have all the radio gear, hatches and such located.

Hi,

That's only 3 day's work? Wow. That's great. Looks like you're doing a good job, too.

Unfortunately, it seems like the advent of ARF's and their domination of the hobby seems to have chased off all the real builders. I hate to see threads pop up entitled "Blah Blah Cheap Totally Prefabbed ARF BUILD Thread" as though that's actually building. Some guys at least have the honesty to call them "Assembly" threads! The worst thing is that those threads seem to have more following (and the assembler seems to rate more accolades) than actual build threads. I know it's because there are fewer and fewer builders building kits...and a higher likelihood of someone wanting to see someone else working on the plane they're working on; but it still bums me out. So BRAVO for doing an actual BUILD!!

Thank you for the support. I'm a hardcore builder. Always have been and always will.  If they want to call them selves builders that's fine with me. I can tell the difference at the field. It is a shame though that the actual builders are dwindling but it seems to me that people are in such a hurry now and days. No one can stand still for a minute to really look at things.
As long as there are kits to build and a supply of balsa I'll keep carving away.

Relax,

There will always be plans and wood. Thats all you need if you can't get a kit. Laser cutters aren't going anywhere in the next 20 years so if you have a plan of a Warbird you want to build whether it be per the plan size or blown up they can help. Pat at Laser Cut USA is the best kit cutter out there.

Nice job so far,

Barry

Mrrandyman

Looks great I would sugest putting 1 pc of sheeting down each side to pravent twisting if you pull it from the board, and punch holes in every thing you can aft of the C/G area to keep from having to add nose wieght. back about page 50 or so I posted some pic of the tailwheel structure and if I do another I would do more

Hope this helps

Cheers Bob T

Yes thank you for the info. I will be sure to lighten up the back structure and I will add some sheeting. I sure don't care for the rudder setup they show on the plans. It seems pretty sloppy in movement but I'm not sure what else a person could use without adding more weight.

Hello:
I'm new to your great build site. Been following for some time, but this is my first post here.
I have a scale question for someone out their.
I am building a Zorili GS Corsair 93" WS, etc. On the full scale bird, the right wing had a spoiler added after early manufacturing, around 42 or 43 to the -1A and all subsequent builds. This spoiler was added to assist in eliminating left wing tip stalling on landing.
I have put my guess as to size of this on my build. I saw a full scale -1D at Oshkosh a couple years ago and was about 6" in width( works out to be about 1 1/4 " on model).
My problem is the pice I built seems way to large depth wise. I guessed it was about 3" deep at the wing leading edge, which translated to around 1/2" on the build. Just looks way to big.
Questiondoes anyone know the depth on that thing as measured from the leading edge of a full scale -1A so I can scale this thing more close to what is should be. I guessed it was 3" deep, which scaled out to 1/2".
I think Corsair Jock had done some scale measurements a few years ago.
Much thanks much for your help.

PS
Love the Corsair build world. Sign me up
Also sorry if this is only a TFGS build

Looks like you are figuring out some of the scale inaccuracies of either drawings or wing chord or both maybe. Stuff like this always pops up in a scale build it seems when you start laying out panel lines hatches, exhaust fittings, etc. Whatever size you end up making them, might depend a lot on what you think looks best after checking some documents and measures. It is a good question you pose, and it's impressive you are detailing it out to that degree.

Happy building...I wish I would have built the ziroli in the end...as that gull wing is a total space hog in the shop, I don't think I really save much room in storage than a ziroli would take up.
