RE: The New Pentathlon Evolution
In the area 51 area you will also see a shot inside the new fuse. Mark redesigned the contruction internals for the tank support and also added laser cut DEPS for the elevator and I believe guides for the pull pull rudder.
Other changes included the front turtle deck being raised and the canopy location being moved slightly and the front of it being raised.
I know the first kits have just arrived for Mark and myself to starting building, foam cores being cut etc...
I would expect to start seeing photos and build info coming about 2-3 weeks from now for me.
Mark has improved the kit everytime he made any changes and I know that this version is going to go together even faster and the amount of little details has increased to make life that much easier.

RE: The New Pentathlon Evolution
The Harmony is Mike Harrisons design. It is still in Area 51 mode, as you can imagine, getting a biplane ready for production is a daunting task so that whomever purchases the kit can be happy with the performance of the plane, happy with the way it builds and as we all know, make weight.
I hope to see a 2nd version started soon with some updates and modifications made, this means one step closer to getting MY hands on one!!!

What are the chances of discussing a delux kit?
Sheeted foam, edged and sanded wings/stab/ wing tube socket installed etc etc.
I love building, but just don't have the time.

RE: The New Pentathlon Evolution
Nice thread!
The Pentathlon Evolution has been designed to add some refinements to the Pentathlon. No significant changes to the aerodynamics, but some more significant refinements to the fuse structure and layout. I wish I could say that I have one completed, but I do not. Just like everyone else, my own time for building is hard to find. A few Evo kits have been shipped though, so in time we should have photos and reports, even if they are not mine[:@]. The attached image shows the internal layout of the Evo. This layout gives nearly all the components a place to be neatly installed. It also improves access for my fat hands to screw on the wing nuts without the interference of the fuel tank. This setup is geared toward the hatori muffler, but formers for a pipe tunnel are included with the laser parts.
The Harmony Bipe as described above is a Harrison Design. I did all the kit layout work for the prototype. Mike took the kit and had the prototype flying in only 8 weeks...this included making glass molds and parts for the chin and canopy! Recently, I got the chance to fly it, and I can say it will be my next project after completing one of my Evo kits. The Harmony exhibits all of the great traits of a pattern bipe. It has a very large presence in the air, and it is very easy to fly. Mike has done an excellent job in a short time to get the prototype flying near perfect. Getting the incidences, thrust and CG right on a prototype bipe is not a task for the faint of heart. Between now and next Summer, Mike and I have a long list of nice changes to make to the Harmony kit before offering it for purchase.
On the building board (luckily not mine) is an Insight Bipe. This prototype should be extremely cool in terms a light, different looking bipe. Next Spring it should be flying and letting us know if it is a winner.
While we are on the subject of future stuff, a good friend is now finishing a 110 size Insight. Assuming it is successful, I will gladly offer parts and plans for this simple, little gem.
Best Regards,
Mark

RE: The New Pentathlon Evolution
Question number 1.
How has the landing gear mounts been holding up un the Pentathlon?
Question number 2.
Im building the Pentathlon Evo, I have a choice of a short pipe setup or the longe pipe setup.
I'm cosidering the mini pipe with a Webra 160.
Are the 2 cycle mini pipe's well proven enough that I can commit to a short pipe build?

RE: The New Pentathlon Evolution
Just started an EVO. I have a few pictures that include the gear plate area. Everything has been tied in well so the gear should stand up fine. I have seen the original Pentathlon worked over a grass field many times with no issues. I believe the improved structual layout of the EVO will be great.

RE: The New Pentathlon Evolution
Seem to be going about it a bit off of the beaten path. I'm freinds with flyintexan, and knowing a bit about the construction philosophy, I would have expected the fuse sides to be installed prior to turning it over to make sure the fuse stay true. I know he provides a details series of pics outlining the build sequence as designed.
Why did you elect to remove it from your flat surface prior to adding the fuse sides?

RE: The New Pentathlon Evolution
Well, I have finally started working on my own Pentathlon Evo.
Building an F3A machine of any kind takes time, but it is sure worth it to do it right, and with the right tools. As always, alignment is critical to a really good performing airframe. Double and triple check all critical dimensions before final assembly.
I think I'm gonna have to put the battery way up in the nose.
