Default Homemade .10 Vee

Here are a few pictures of a 22" x 6-3/4" deep vee boat for a .10-.18 nitro engine. It was designed to handle pond chop and to surf on full size boat waves. It is relatively mild boat with a top speed of something like 18 mph. The skeg and deep rudder allow the boat to turn on a dime and it doesn't spin out at "high" speeds. It catches good air on the downwind chop and is definitely a lot of fun.

The hull is Wood Over Foam with bulkheads to separate the compartments and weighs 1-3/4 pounds. It has a flex surface drive and hardware made from K&S sheet brass and tubing and uses an Octura X442 prop. The rudder is set too far off center and I will move it closer to the prop.

The rudder in the separate pic is cool in that it uses the rudder post as a water pick-up.

Thats a very cool looking boat. You've got a lot of skill that I long for. I'll have to save a few of these photos for when my next scratch build comes up. Great ideas.

A very nice looking boat!!!

I have a Enya .11 engine and want to find a hull like your's.

It's small and easy to carry around.

Nice Work!,,, nice looking boat & hardware, but it looks like you need to move your rudder back to be inline with the front of your prop, or rear of your prop,,, I've found that a boat will steer better that way, at least on plane, I've had to do this twice myself. From experimentation, I've found the best idea is to put the rudder just behind the prop, this way the boat is steered better by the prop wash, at all speeds.

Thanks very much guys! I appreciate your thumbs up on the project! This hobby is really fun stuff.

One neat feature I didn't point out earlier is that the music wire antenna is stuffed thru the transom into the foam and goes up past the 'dashboard." A wire "tail" was drawn thru a hole in the radio box to connect with the regular antenna. So I don't have to almost get poked in the eye by an exposed antenna while starting the engine. Good range for a small boat and no hassle!

Looks nice.
The smaller boats are definately a lot of fun and can be run on smaller bodies of water.
When I have a little more time I'll have to post a few pics.
I currently have a mono hull with a >16 and a mono looking hydro with an .18 that also uses a steerable outdrive.
Currentlyworking on a JPK 22" mono hull that will use a surface drive and an OS 12 cvrx.

Rudders placed to one side are basically used for racing since they loose turning quality on the side where the rudder is NOT .
Most of the time , the rudder ( here in the USA ) , is mounted on the right side for the simple reason that when racing , they run in a clockwise direction which means right turns only . ( unless they are running SAW which is a straight run )
When mounted on the right , turning to left REALLY is hindered , but turning right , is SUPER . If running a "playboat" , then it would be wiser to mount the rudder , either in the middle , or run twins . That way , both ways you turn will be equal to the other .
