Hey Cananzi,

Ya don't need big surf to have a blast, just a few perfect offshore "Micro-waves".
I am fixing the orange Dude for Luke because he reckons he can't see the blue Dude that I put on his board very well when it gets out back at the "Fence"
The feet were all cracked 'cause he has had a hammerin', but no other signs of stress.

It must have been hard building your first board from scratch, but if that is how well it surfs then you must be super stoked.

Well done Bro.

Was it hard to get the shaft and motor all lined up when you fitted it.
I just can't imagine the ****up I would make trying to build one from scratch.

Sea ya.

Hi RC Surfers,
During my search for spare parts I found engel-modellbau.eu, a German site. They seem to be experts in RC submarines (can’t quite understand the thrill of steering a boat you can’t see – makes me think about always driving the dude in a tube without seeing him).
Anyway, they offer some nice parts at great prices, have an English website, PayPal , and ship anywhere…
Servo Mount: really simple, works great, for 1/10 th or so of the price of the luxury aluminum mount…
Coupler for standard drive shaft 3.17 – 4 mm
Rudder Horns , small ones: items 466-3 and 4, larger ones: 467-3 ff
My favorite rudder:
Etti stuff seems quite expensive. The rudder does not let any water in the rudder compartment – at least if you don’t bend the rudder shaft by hitting rocks or so…
Have fun

Alright Crew!

All that tail slidin' by Karl and Cananzi is getting me amped up a bit.

Lookin'pretty good for the weekend.
Plenty of swell coming over the next few days.
Wind is forcast from S and low tide at dawn so "Pages" could be dredging.
Getting our boards ready for another run or two on the weekend.
Trying to lock in Bob for some pics.

Haven't seen or heard from Dan the Iceman for a while, might give him a call.
Would be a first for Gero to get 3 RC Surfers in the zone at the same time.

My mate at the music shop where I work got a call from a guy who reckons he is addicted to RC Surfers and heard that someone at the shop was into it, so it looks like we could have another member of the Gero RC Boardriders Club shortly.

Maybe one day "Stockies" will even get a crowd. LOL.
Is there a pecking order for RC Surfers???

Sea ya.

No Jimi,

Wasn't me on Skype, I'll normally email you before we skype
to assure you have some time to kick it a bit.
You on facebook ?

Ya the boards are getting scarce again. As you know
Its always something with rc surfing but the sport is still growing
and none of us here will stop progressing it...

No word from Brendon, I wrote a few times but havent heard back.

Who else is up for a session at Doheney this weekend?

Wanna get a good last session in before packing the gear up to fly to Caribbean next weekend!

Will have my daughter and her bud surfing so built in recon for shagging RC's if necesary!

Cananzi,

To assist me in making a really big mess out in my shed can you please post a few pics of your RC Rocket?

1. Underside, prop and rudder.
2. Topside with lid off.
3. Side view with deck and Dudette.

I am going to watch your vid again now.
I like stopping and starting the vid frame by frame.
Still can't believe my eyes.

Sea ya.

the first board (stripes across nose) had the lipo at the rear and that was a fail, it couldnt be saved tryed weight in the front but still wasnt good.

this is actually my second board here is a few pics. the finish isnt great on it tho.

honestly tho i think if you make your own fiberglass board you will never look back. i cant beleive how bone dry they stay inside its incredible.

Cananzi,
What radio are you using?
Do you need an antenna?.

What sort of runtimes are you getting with the 5000?

I am gonna start lookon' out for a suitable blank.
I wanna try to stick a lunchbox inside it. Lol.

Hugh's reply to Jimi
drop down centerboard rc surfer - I spent $600 on flooding electronics as keeping out water from centerboard bellows was a big problem, also sand would lock it up and burn my expensive high torque servos.
Now I have sealed off bottom cavity and am shaping different keel, fin keel styles which can thru bolt into hull.
I am sure that I can get a minimal drag attachment that still gives quick self righting even in strong winds.
FYI - I have found that my Hawaiian surfer dude self rights one way with no keel but not the other way.
This is due to fact that he is low cg and had good volume in ass and lower back - something custom makers should consider as making the dude takes about same time as the board!

Yes Mahalo to John for sitting on the beach filming when the waves were going off on Maui last Friday.

I use a hobbyking GT-2 and i just leave the antenna wire hangin out the balloon and it works perfect. i have modded one of my gt2 to run lipo but just waiting on lipos to come

3s 5000mah (20-25mins)
4s 5000mah (25-30mins)
6s 5000mah im trying out tomorrow so hopefully a long run time!!
my battery tray can fit 165mm x 55mm x 50mm so theres a huge choice of lipos!!

i just started shaping a dude......man its hard!!! my dude looks like a body builder dam it! lmao

Cananzi,
I am using the GT-3B but I have never tried leaving the wire inside, so I will give it a go, might be able to lose the antenna tube altogether.
With all the custom boards on here now I am starting to feel brave.

I see you change the rudder arm to the outside on this one too.
Seems a lot simpler for maintenance.
What do you use to seal the outside of the pushrod tube to stop water backflowing up into it?

Cananzi,
The radio has been great so far.
Can't wait to try it without the wire up the tube.
Actually, I think I accidently shut the wire under the edge of the deck last time 'cause it is a bit crushed and that is probably why I got all that water in last weekend.

What is a flexi boot?
Do you have a shorter version of the flexi shaft in that thing?

Cool stuff guys, gotta do a scratch built one of these days!
Thinkin' a longboarder, track on the deck so he can noseride LOL!

Bit the bullet and picked up a 5000 mah LiPOVenom pack, 20C, it BARELY fits into the stock NQD board, very close to the motor coupling and tight in the existing plastic rails.

Ready for some rippin' so who's up for Boneyrad, Doheney Sunday morning?

C'Mon Justin-san!
