Default Vintage Tamiya Thread

This topic is worthy of its own thread.

Post your pix of vintage Tamiya (and reissue of course) cars & trucks.

Post your paraphenelia, and links to good youtubevideos.

Post your stories from back in the day.

I notice that my beloved Falcon is not being reissued. Ah well, I don't remember it being very durable anyway. But it is nice to see in those Tamiya ad movies. Pulls at my heart strings. (I'm 1976 vintage)

Let's keep it Tamiya only, and vintage only, OK? (except reissues are allowed)

Let's just keep this thread to Tamiyas. There seem to be threads out there for specific Tamiyas, such as the Lunchbox and Hornet.

I'm hoping this will be a repository for good info.

Yesterday, I signed up for tamiyaclub.com. Lots of good stuff there, especially under the "Reference" tab. Stayed up way too late downloading and watching videos of Foxes, Falcons, Grasshoppers, etc.

Maybe start a different thread for the MRC ones...

Thanks for the comment, and I agree, a re-issue of the SuperShot, Fox and Falcon would also be nice[sm=teeth_smile.gif]

[X(]I never thought in a million years they would re-issue the vintage die-cast series. I would imagine they are going to be very costly, somewhere around the £400 mark would be my guess[&:]

Skip the Falcon. It was a cheaper alternative to The Fox. The front end was not durable. I don't know how many times mine broke, and that was just with the stock motor.

Nice ones John. Be sure to put up your Fire Dragon and Pajero.

...speaking of which, I just read on wikipedia that Falco died in a Pajero! Makes me want to build one, hehehe.

Nice collection you have there John, I like your baja champ- better looking than the gravel hound imo. Are they good bashers? What motor are you running?

I don't have any action stills yet, but here's the out-of-the box shot. ebay, $75 shipped w/ Futaba AM Tx and Rx, and one Shark 1500 pack. (piece of crap, seems to have at least one dead cell)

Edit: Yeah, I know the guy had the tires on backwards.

Flatout - I have two of those Baja Champs. Both have been great bashers. When the photo was taken that car had a stock silver can in it. It works pretty well stock but the one big problem with that chassis is the limited gearing options. If I remember correctly you can only use a 15 thru 18 tooth pinion. That car currently has an old titan in it geared with the largest pinion i could get in there.

The second Baja Champ has a Tamiya sport motor and is setup to run on road.

Here are a couple of more pics. Please keep in mind that some of these pics are old and the setups have changed.

New build. All stock Fire Dragon.

The Twins. A pair of Baja Champs. Black car has a Titan in it. White car has an older Tamiya sport motor.

Another Twins Pic. These are the TA02 chassis from the early 90's. The F150 is my bashers. The Pre-runner is a shelf queen. It's all stock and has never run other than to set the servo.

You've got quite a nice fleet there, John.

How does the F-150 compare to a stock Slash, performance-wise?

Nice pics there John.

I've just salvagedthe Traxxas receiver + standard servo andHitec SP-560 esc from my worn-out second-hand Bandit.

So was looking for something to drop them into

Managed to find the Lunch Box kit plus bearings for £55 from Time Tunnel last night, so ordered it up, so hopefully will be building a re-issue Lunchy by the weekend

This is my first from-scratch Tamiya kit build, and will be my first bodyshell painting, so will post pics and may ask some advice etc. especially from Mr. Lunchboxer!!

pritch: Lunch Boxes are fun. It is hard to figure out by looking at the specs and suspension, but it is true. It is slow, it bounces all over the place, but it is torquey, it wheelies.

Nice trucks and champs mate. What speeds are you getting out of the road runner champ? I'm trying to figure out what tooth pinion would best to buy as a steel upgrade for my boomer which i'll be running with a checkpoint 19t when it's built. I'm thinking a 15t  would give me a nive balance of run times, accel and lowish temps?

Jeremy,

In all honesty there is no comparision. The Slash is almost twice it's size and The F150 is 4WD etc etc. It would compare better to a 1/16 Slash than the normal truck. Here is a pic of the Pre-runner and one of my Slash's side by side.

Flatout - I've never radared it but it'sas fast a a stock rustler so i'm guessing high 20's. Maybe 28 MPH or so. Running the Sport motor on the 101BK esc I had to run a small pinion to keep everything cool. I have to look but I think it has a 15 tooth pinion. The Champ with the titan is considerably faster due to the higher gearing and stronger motor.
