Ive READ several bad reviews on them including.. Leaks, bending shafts, leaks and leaks. I know Leaks are an easy fix, but if you bend a shaft on a shock thats essentially sold on the internet only, You will be waiting on parts.

RE: The Official Traxxas Slash short-course race truck
I figured I would put my 8.5 novak system in my slash, I ran it down the street, oh wow it really woke it up![>:]
Not only that I took the stock servo out as well and replaced it with a JR metal geared one, not only is it fast, it steers
much better than that wimpy stock servo did. If my track ever starts a mod corr class I will participate.
I might be overgeared though 19/83 seemed a bit overboard.[X(]
I will try 19/86 tommorow, but yet may still be too much.

Well my buds building a custom solid axle aluminum 2WD SC truck, loosely based on the slash. He has the reamains of the slash and I was surprised at the weight that the Integy aluminum tranny case adds....it's a freakin brick!
I'll get some pics of his custom build up in a few days.

Well I tried 19/86 with my novak 8.5 system and it didnt overheat in a 15 minute bash fest so I guess I'm ok now.
The only thing I dont like when your trying to get BIG AIR with a slash it's nothing but a parachute due to the huge body.
Fun for bashing, but when your racing it can be a pain in the butt.[:@] That's why the Baja Bug body seems like a good idea.[sm=idea.gif]

Ive heard of guys adding holes to the body to allow the air to pass through Much like a nitro body would have for cooling

Just got my Slash last night and going to my first race tonight. All stock except running a 2s lipo. Hopefully this newb can be competitive.

Slash racing is a great class for newbs and advanced drivers! You can rub fenders with another truck, and come out clean most of the time which makes for much tighter racing! HAVE FUN!

Man, going right into it huh? I just got mine last week and only ran it a few times. Trying to get used to it first as it is a different experience than my ole school Hornet. I race it now, will be more a demo derby compared to an actually race thanks to me, lol!
Good luck and have fun!

well my 6 cell NiMH packs usually peak around 9.4V if I recall correctly, if you're using a timed charger do yourself a favor and peak detecting one.

RE: The Official Traxxas Slash short-course race truck
Had an awesome time racing last night. There were a few other people that starting racing about a month ago so I was put in their races. I was fastest in the 2 of the 3 heat races and took second in the main. When all of the speeds were added up I was 6th fastest out of 9. Not to bad considering it was my first time racing ever.

Hey guys just ordered another Slash from tower but I have a question. I got the red/silver body one does anybody know which color crystals come with that one? It's the newest version if that matters.

I figured out my next step for my slash. I am going to get the proline suspension kit and shocks. The shocks look real cool. Does anybody knows when they are coming out? I am also going to do the J concept over tray

those shocks look great...but so far I've seen them listed at $50 a pair [X(]
full set of shocks costs the same as half of a slash!

i know that is the only down side about the shocks. The other ones I was thinking about were these from team blue star. http://www.teambluestar.com/slashshocks.htm Has anybody heard of them are they a good company? There shocks look sweet and they are coilover. I am pretty sure these shocks would work with the suspension kit from pro line.

RE: The Official Traxxas Slash short-course race truck
Hello everyone. This is the first time I've ever posted on this forum. I just bought my son a slash 2wd for Christmas. This will be the first (non Wal-mart) truck he or I have ever had. The only other RC experience I have is with helis (nitro and electric).
If he really gets into this hobby, I will want to upgrade it to a brushless system. Do anyone have any suggestions or tips as far as motors/esc etc.
If I do go brushless with a lipo, would that negate the waterproofing?
Thanks for any suggestions or comments

personally, I wouldnt buy shocks that arent common. Shafts break, seals leak.. They are maintenance items. I dont want to have to special order parts from Hong Kong to repaor a shock. Thats just me though

to stay waterproof, go with the TRX VXL system. OR you can do your own waterproofing with plastidip.

RE: The Official Traxxas Slash short-course race truck
Hey there mike, I recently got myself a 2wd slash and my fiance one a couple weeks later, you 2 will love it.
As far as the waterproofing goes, the only brushless system that says its waterproof is Traxxas' own VXL system, which isnt too bad. My slash has the older non-waterproof VXL system in it and I had an 8-cell NiMH pack and it screams and wheelies. I plan on going lipo soon should it will be insane then.

RE: The Official Traxxas Slash short-course race truck
Does this make sense to you guys that race these trucks?
Just visited my local hobby store who have an indoor/outdoor track and the stock spec class for these trucks have quite a few rules.
One that surprised me was you can run only 6 cell batteries, not 7....but can run Lipo2's....long as they are 6cell. So my 7 cell is for not for race days......
I didn't think these trucks could handle Lipos, without a LVC? Really don't want to spend money on both Lipo's and LVC, but would be nice to have the lighter weight and more time/power.
Is that normal for most of you guys that race these?
Outside track is amazing........inside is so-so. 5 bucks to practice as much as you want though, so that is cool.

RE: The Official Traxxas Slash short-course race truck
I run LiPo with a Low V alarm
They are cheap!
http://cgi.ebay.com/Maxpro-2S-Lipo-B...item3354d46976
Its mounted on my rear shock tower, and I removed some paint off the body so I could see the light. Its Blue when normal, and blinks red and beeps when its time to come off the track. I did add an inline plug to it so I can unplug it if I want to run 7.2V packs in practice
FYI: A dremmel with a polishing pad removes the paint off a section easily, and if the lexan clouds up, brake fluid clears it right up

RE: The Official Traxxas Slash short-course race truck
Thanks again Ken!
Do you notice a considerable difference in power from the two? Is it really worth it is really my question. Don't want to get into Lipo's right now, unless it is worth it.
I imagine it would with Brushless, but not sure about brushed.
Thanks again bud!
Also were is a good lipo2 on the cheap?
