RE: The Official Traxxas Slash short-course race truck
has anyone done the following diff mod?
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...IMG_0001-1.jpg
I'm in the position to do it...but I don't know if I want to, I don't race, just bash. I would like to do this, but I'm not sure how long it'll last, will the O-Rings disintegrate with brushless power? I kind of have my doubts, and I don't want to file/drill out my diff housing if it'll only last a few weeks.

I know a few people that have done it and love it. Been going for more than 6 months on it. It works but you can put thick grease in there and achieve the same end.

I've done it and would recommend it to ANYONE! i just got some small orings from a local hardware store no clue how big they were but they can be very snug about the axle, i use 50k weight (traxxas) oil and that works very well... makes a great impact on the handling of the truck and your ability to do epic powerslides...

RE: The Official Traxxas Slash short-course race truck
Well I took my slash out yesterday after some while of setting on my shelf. I am running a MM 5700 with 24/90 gearing and the temps seem to get to hot, i have all the settings turned down on the Mamba.
What advice you guys have on gearing i could use?
Also seems my diff went so I have to open it up and put some tacky in there to lock it up any thing else i should do While i am in there.

24/90 is way too high of a gearing.
try 18/90 or near it and then check your temps.
we're running c/c 4600's and gear it 16/86 with 1/8 buggy tires for track use and the temps are 150-160 and they fly.

I also got the 1/8th buggy tires on it, cant wait to put it back together and try it out.
Thanks

well I took my slash ALL the way apart, and cleaned everything! man, it sure looks pretty now!
We are having a little RC show in the mall this saturday, so I don't want to get it dirty....but the track is the perfect amount of wet right now for awesome traction...
too bad I fried my charger....LOL

Lot of nice Slashes in here.
Is there an official picture thread with only Slashes?
I may be scoring an all aluminum w/brushless and alloy beadlocks and alloy adjustable shocks.

In reference to the Proline Suspension Kit, I put it on my truck with the stock shocks. It handled good and tracked awesome. BUT I took a jump and landed and broke a front A-arm from the kit. I am really disappointed in the kit. I am currently in Iraq and called Proline and they told me to send pictures to see if they will replace it. I wish I would have gotten RPM A-arms.

RE: The Official Traxxas Slash short-course race truck
what springs should i buy? im currently running integy piggyback shocks w 30 weight oil and the suspension is WAY to soft. the front inside tire stays in the air. what shock springs (preferably Traxxas because both my lhs carries tons of their parts) should i try. even with the wallowy suspension i have to say this is the most fun ive had in RC since my nitro rustler just without the headache of tuning the carbs and such. im currently running brushless w 3 cells and this thing hauls butt! should have some pics after i get my proline baja body painted. btw does the proling undertray fit with the baja body on?

Okay what i run is this set up suspension wise, 50wt oil all around, 2" losi silver springs forward, 2.5" losi geen springs rear might upgrade to blue rear springs but i'll need to check that out in the future... This is on ultra shocks but i wager it'll work on your integy ones just as well...

The three wires that comes off from the motor and connects to your ESC, i believe theyre called the motor wires right? What connections are those? Will they work if I replace the ESC with a Castle Creations sidewinder/ mamba max Pro?

Alright junville, you left out some information, but I will assume you are running the VXL system now. Yes, the 3 wires going from the ESC to the motor are the motor wires. I'm assuming that you want to upgrade your VXL ESC to a Castle system?
The connectors on the motor wires are called Bullet connectors, they are 4mm on the castle systems, and I think they are 3.5mm on the VXL system.
So, in order to use your VXL motor with the Castle ESC, you'll need to pick some 4mm bullet connectors, [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXTJH8&P=ML]this is a complete set[/link], [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJPY4&P=ML]and this is just the male end[/link], the male ends go on the motor side.

RE: The Official Traxxas Slash short-course race truck
i've heard tell of people using castle ESC's with the VXL motor with great success, when my castle motor goes caput, that's probably the combo I'll be running in my 2wd.
(there is a slash 4x4 thread too [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_9157149/mpage_23/tm.htm]here you go[/link])
but of course I have no problem helping you here either

RE: The Official Traxxas Slash short-course race truck
castle+vxl systems are supposedly pretty awesome... I know alot of people who go sidewinder/mamba vxl, the VXl motor which is awesome and (and i know it can push a 6 scale rc around quite zippyily on 2s with moderate gearing and i have heard rumors about people using them on 4s which they supposedly handle quite well if you keep the temps in check...
As for the integy springs i wouldnt know man, i use the losi ones myself and they work for me but if you want to order integy do tell us how they work for you...

RE: The Official Traxxas Slash short-course race truck
thanks. il hit the lhs this weekend. im running brushless vxl motor, a aeolian 60amp esc (awesome esc if i do say so myself) a 19 tooth pinion and 11.1v lipos. after 25 minutes of bashing the motor was really hot to the touch. the esc was cool as a fan and my lipos were pretty hot. is that normal. i dont have anything to tell me the temps. i dont wana fry my motor or kill my lipos. thanks

you should invest in an infrared thermometer asap to check temps and get some numbers, I went with the Duratrax Flashpoint ($25) and it works well. I've never had a lipo heat up, ever, so you may be over taxing them. But a warm-hot motor is normal on a 3 cell.
