If any of you guys are doing a Red Arrows T1 and wish to fit a smoke pod (the Reds never fly without them fitted) my scratch built pod is now finished. The drawings and former template are available FOC if anyone wants to tackle this item.

Tam Pipe with Kingtech 180G
Here are some pics of the my setup on mounting the K180 and Tams Pipe. I chose not to cut up the Carbon Bypass. Instead this is what I came up. Simple but very functional. I make put a shourd around the opening behind the turbine just incase you get a hotstart or flame.
I had to really move the turbine to the rear of the mounts to get the proper spacing but I am very happy with it.

Hi Jeff, mine has a screw that can be accessed from the back of the plane. That holds the tube on the fuse. I also blocked the bottom of the sleeve that holds the tube in place in the fuse in case the screw fails. Then, the fin basically goes on and is held with the front screw. This method is solid if all parts are checked and there is no weak point.

Hi, I am not sure why we would need to glue the tube in the fin. That would make taking off the fin a chore. I have a Futura 2.5m that has the same system without a screw to hold the tube in the fuse and works fine.

Hi guys,
Is the C of G as per the CARF manual accurate? just wondering as I'm at a stage of finalising the c of g. With the manual reference of c of g position, it is directly on the wing/fuse root mounting bolts. Is that about right compared to your models? I haven't got a cockpit for the model yet, so I'll need to adjust for that, and will have the added weight removable. My elevator servos are in the tail.

Thanks Mike.
Hey guys, for those of you that have fit the cockpit. What is the sequence? First gluing the canopy, then inside frame and then cockpit or first cockpit, then inside frame and then canopy. I would appreciate your help / details. To clarify, I would prefer to make the canopy / cockpit as one piece so the cockpit is removed with the canopy to make the operation easier. That is why I was wondering hoe to achieve that.

Cool found it. Darryl Tarr has written up a good summary on it. 310mm according to him. 305mm in the manual. My wing mount bolts are at 300mm. So it's in the ball park. I'll balance it ever so slightly tail heavy on the wing mount bolts and then adjust after flying.

Guys, What are your thoughts around the landing gear strut covers supplied? Are you using them. If so, what are your methods for attaching the gear door securely and nicely to the strut. Im not too keen on using them, but instead making some custom strut collars to make nice and clean attachments to the door. I just don't have enough confidence on the strut covers. Also, they just seem too fiddly to install on the gear struts to get a nice finish.
Im think of going to sierra giant model accessaries to get some custom collars made.
You thoughts?...And pics of your gear struts and door attachment

I have used the covers by using resin with a lot of micro balloons as filler to keep the resin light.
with this the cover is extremely stabil and you can glue the gear door directly on the leg.
But before make sure your main gear doors (at the fuselage) are closing when gear is retracted. If not give the legs a bit after run characteristics.

Hi Topiwala, to my opinion, the landing gear covers were the most time consuming part of the assembly so far. I was like you and did not want to do it but my friend talked me in to it and now I am glad I did it. The process was. sand blast and paint the gears. Assemble the gear covers together with spot glue and fill all the gaps etc. then split them a part and glue to the gears. I used Zap A Dap A Goo for gluing. First one side and ten the other. For inside, I used shims to make everything center and for the straight lines, I used Poly Ply to overlap. then, fill all the gaps again with Hysol. sand and paint. On problem was that, during final sanding, the gel coat kept chipping so I had to fill up again and sand. Here are all the pictures of the process. Let me know if you have any questions and I would gladly answer.

Hi Guys
for those of you that have done the cockpit. Could you please advise that how it fits. I just started to work on mine and it seems as it is way too wide to fit. Does your cockpit fit in / slide in and out assembled?
Thanks in advance.

okay guys, I found the answers on original Marc's virtual manual. It has to be assembled inside the fuse.
