Everything is right. Hawk is completed with these chairs. Here the earliest and most modern Martin Baker MK-10B model.

Putting mine together and was wondering what retract air disconnects one could use at the wings. The 4mm tubing is great but I have not seen any 4mm quick connectors,

Just that CARF supply all 4mm tubing, fittings, T pieces, etc. for the retracts, but no disconnects. I'll get some reducers.

SMC do some 4mm quick disconnects just like the Robart ones. I use them on all 4mm airlines.

What Tx are you guys using with this jet? I've got a DX9 and wondering if that's enough or should I upgrade to the DX18? I'm hoping to pull the trigger on this plane next month...

Hi, I used 12x and it was just enough. I might have a new one for sale. I crashed my first one, bought a new one in Swiss Schem, have installed the retract, wing servos and the engine. I am too picky to have someone build it for me so it has been sitting as I don't have time to work on it. Since you are in Washington, there will be no shipping cost so let me know what you think and I might consider selling mine.

CAUTION !!

I test flew my SkyGate Hawk yesterday and landed after what I thought was a perfect test flight, but what was very nearly a disaster.

It was witnessed by about ten other guys who will confirm it was flown smoothly and without anything "hard and speed was kept quite low as recorded on the Weatronic GPS. . No rudder inputs were made in flight, aeros were loop, cuban eights and barrel rolls, with most of the flight at half throttle on the Olympus.

Pushing the jet back to the pits I noticed that the rudder trim tab was missing, and looking at the fin a huge crack was discovered running along the fin from front to back just at the top odf the mounting tibe. The other side of the fin was buckled. Any rudder inputs would certainly have led to fin loss !!!!

I have considerably strengthened the fin tube mount in the fuselage but the fin was standard (late) Skygate.

I will be fitting a new fin and probably repair and considerably stiffen this one. When flown I will fit a camera aimed at the fin/ rudder to record its behaviour.

Whether the fin flutter was started by flutter of the trim tab, which led to the rudder fluttering and then the fin will never be known.

My local CARF dealer will ask whether the new Hawks have any mods. to the fin for current kits.

More, and picture, later.

David Gladwin.

Hi people
well I'm close to finishing my original Skygate but after reading that david I think I'm going to strengthen my fin, a Question I need too ask on the install are most people useing 2x powerbox to make two completely separate systems as the model I'm expecting to be around 22-24 kg or useing a rrs powerbox only and big flaw I can see with that if powerbox malfunctions there's nothing as back up and what powerbox is everybody useing ,need your thoughts on this thankyou in advance

Hi David

From what we know, the fin / rudder issue was addressed and fixed by CARF. so, maybe you can purchase a new fin for your plane from Carf. I think I even have one extra somewhere.

Wayne,

I have almost 75 flights on my second Skygate Hawk. I had over 170 on my first one. I believe in the KISS method. Keep it simple. I have nothing against powerbox. They have a awesome product. I just like to lower the chances of failures from complex items in the RX to Servo that can fail.

I used the powersafe reciever with life 6.6 volt batteries with no regulator and DS8711 on all moving surfaces with the exception of front gear doors. This is a proven and reliable light weight set up. I do have seperate batteries for everything else like smoke pump, lights, landing gear to keep them out of the power flow of the RX. I just finished my BVM Plug and Play F-16 and it has high voltage servos but I am going to use the same batteries and RX on it.

MY bird weights right at 49lbs dry and around 63lb wet. I carry 60oz of smoke on takeoff.
