I sold that plane to Jim Brown who, after painting it, did his best to remove the paint from the underside using ground effect drag during high-speed, super low passes. I'm not sure what happened to it but it's nice to hear that your Agg is still around.
Geeze, Jim, you're bringing back some memories.

And yes, the paint did get a bit thin on the bottom. I had a blast with that Cyclone with the extended wings and tip tanks (still have the tanks!) If you go to my website (Radio Control Aircraft Gallery), head over to Jim's Videos and scroll to the bottom, you'll find an old video of one of the first flights I did at Bay of Quinte.

The following year, Ann and I went to one of the last Deland jet rallies, in Jan. 2002 (had some fun at the border that year.) On Saturday morning it was quite foggy. After waiting a while, I decided to test the ceiling and took off for a flight. Made the first circuit and then did a shallow climb as I went past myself. The jet entered the fog and quickly disappeared. Stupid me. I tried to nose it over and it finally reappeared pointed straight down at about 100' AGL. I hauled back on the elevator, almost bending the stick. It looked like it was going to make it when one of the wings folded. What was left of the fuse hit a bush which saved it from major damage. I bought a new set of wings, fixed the cracks in the fuse and repainted it again. Flew it for another couple of years until I lost it at Winamac when a wing folded due to hidden structural damage just as I was doing a gentle pull up at show center. The jet did a nice spiralling ballistic trajectory into the bean field next door. It's now a part of some landfill.

As I said, I did have a blast with it.

Regards,
...jim

Made some more progress on the build.

The wings are glassed and attached to each other ready to be mounted to the fuse.

Also made the mold for one of two tanks that will go on each side of the intake. Not sure what the capacity will be but I hope it will be at least 15 oz. per tank.

The spot between the wing spar will hold a third tank. Its measurements will be 3-1/2 high at its tallest point, 3-1/2 inches high ans 6-3/4 inches lonf to fit the width. The tank will be dished in the center to allow for the intake. my hope on this tank is 20 oz's. I know I wanted 60 oz's total but it is a cramped fuse.

You can see the "turbine" in its approx location.

Joe,

Looks good. Here's a link to my Maverick conversion thread from last year. Maybe it will give you a few ideas.
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_54...turbine/tm.htm

Unfortunately mine flamed out on its maiden because I didn't get all of the air purged out of the fuel system. I didn't make it back to the runway and broke the nose and front fuse. I was a bit discouraged and haven't been motivated to fix it.

I noticed you shaved down your front former. did you do this to allow room for the tanks. I was thinking about cutting mine down but I am not sure as this is the front wing mount also.

Thanks

Yes, I did that to accomodate the tanks. The front former was cut down and the rear former was beefed up to support the turbine rails. Overall I don't think I lost any strength.

Well, after a 6 month hiatus (had do do that flying thing all summer), the weather here in North East Ohio has started to turn to $#%$. Flying will be few and far between.

I started back on the Aggressor.

Here are a few pics of some of the progress.

All the surfaces have been completed and fiberglassed. They are ready for a final sand then primer. The last pic shows a neat little modification. I cut the back of the fuse off and installed an old BVM Bandit tail cone. Alittle lite bondo filler and it will flow to the contour of the fuse. See save those wrecked parts, you never know where you can use them.

Maybe a few suggestions here, I am sstuck as to wheather to cut a front hatch just forward of the canopy or cut the nose off and make it removable to install the gear and brake servos and valve and the RX and Batt.
Give me some suggestions.

Thanks
Joe L.

Ok

Made a little more progress on the build. The kit came with the speed door kit so I opted to install them.

Instead of the BVM mechanical set up I used all air cylinders including the nose wheel retract. Once every thing is done an air switch will be mounted to either the nose wheel or one of the mains. That particular retract will be slowed down with restricters so it will be the last to retract thus activating the switch and closing the doors. This set up works well but the secret is to put the air into the switch from the main tank. Not the air up on the retract. I discovered this on a P-40 I did with retractable tail wheel and doors. If the switched was hooked to the air up line, when the switched activated, the sudden drop in pressure allowed the mains to drop. Once it was hooked to the main tank, problem solved.

Also I decided against any hatch or cutting of the nose of the plane. I managed to install the brake and retract valves in servo in the belly pan. You can also see the air cylinders for the main doors. A six tube connector will hook all the lines together so I just have one disconect to remove the wing. I saw it on another thread.

Hope to start doing some body work on it this week. If all goes well I should have it in primer by this week end.

I just need to sand down the fiberglass and then I can get the tail feathers mouunted.

Well down to the basement to get started.

Well I did not get it in primer but it is ready for body work. I did manage to get the Stab and vertical fin mounted. Just a final sanding on the wings and control surfaces and I will start the body work this week some time.

Also got the fuel tanks done. The 2 epoxy tanks are the ones I made. Thier not pretty but they are functional. The whole fuel tank set up is going to be 58 oz's with a header tank. The tanks I made are 18 oz's each and the saddel tanks are 9 oz's each.

The one pic shows a bulkhead I added. The tail section had too much side to side flex in the fuse. This bulk eliminated that flex.

Here she is ready for the bondo.

Well I managed to get it in primer this weekend. 4 inches of snow outside and about 27 degrees.
Notice the torpedo heater. What I do so I don't blow my self up, is to heat the garage up with the heater. Once warmed up, I turn the heater off and proceed to spray. The garage stays warm for about 45 minutes, plenty of time to get the primer on. Once I am done spraying I crack open the garage door and turn the heater back on to get everything to dry. This method also is used to paint the plane as well. It beets waiting till spring to paint when you really want to go fly.

There is some spot putty work that will need to be done. After that it will be wet sanded with 220 grit and another coat of primer. Once that coat is done, another wet sand with 400 grit and then paint.

A little more progress on the Aggressor. I had alot mor spot putty work than I original thought.

I made a mistake that won't happen again.

When I fiberglassed the wings and tail surfaces, I only used one coat of Zap finish cure resien. I was trying to save on weight. I normaly will put one layer on thinned with denatured alcohle then put a secound on to fill the weeve. I didn't do the secound so now I had to fill all the pin holes with spot putty.

I did get the final primer coat on it today so now I can get it wet sanded and hope to get the first coat of paint on this weekend.

Ok

After the rush of the holiday, I did get it in its first coat of paint. Here are the pics.

Two more colors to go.

I might actually have it ready to fly in a few weeks.

Here it is. After a weeks worth of masking and painting, the finished product ready to start installing equipment.

Should be a rather high visability jet don't you think?

Joe, I think you win the award for cleanest shop of all my flying buddies. You must spend hours just cleaning after evry step. Or maybe not. But of course, I can't really comment since my shop is so bad I do all my Building at Dave's. And he MAKES me cleanup after every session!
