RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
Maybe I'll give crow a try someday. Seems it would help me get used to high alpha landings. Hope to get a F-15 next and imagine that skill will come in handy. For now, I'm enjoying the current setup and Sprint just as they are.

I only asked because the Sprint flies really well, the Elan is a dream to fly.

Turbine and all accessories came out OK, I am afraid that it was the curvature of the earth that caught me out, too fast, too close, trying to see why the nose gear had not gone in all the way up and basically just got it wrong, it was a flat pancake onto the ground at high speed, spread itself over about 250yds, still one good thing came out of it, inside the plastic bag that everyone put the bits in was a tail wheel I lost of my 50cc Yak two weeks earlier, and lots of other bits that did not belong to the Elan as well.

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
Hi Guys
I am fitting a digitech prolynx nose leg to my sprint but I am struggling to work out a nice set up without cutting the woodwork and making it weaker.
Could somebody give me a nose leg length, Looking at other pics on here most seem to have raised the leg off the bearers to give clearance for the stering arm, does anyone know how thick the spacer should be?
Regards
Mick.

Major Splat
The front nose leg is 131mm I just finished my sprint a couple months ago.
With a 131mm leg it will sit level. It is up to you but you can put a small shim under the mount to give you a positve AOA
Good Luck

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
I fly my Sprint with a Modellbau T-750 with max RPM turned down to 120,000. This is 5000 off the recommended 125,000. It will still go ballistic from slow level flight with two-thirds throttle. I'm thinking a 28lb. P-120 would be too much for the Sprint, even de-tuned. HOWEVER, wouldn't the 120 be just perfect for an Elan? :-)

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
I had a 120 in my Elan and its still too much in reality, the P80 is perfect for the Elan, the only advantage with a 120 is shorter take offs, not much and a better climb rate, top speed not a lot in it unless you do a diving entry at full power, but the Elan is not designed for that, I have pulled 9.6G out of a pull up and that is just silly , but shows how strong the Elan is.

I'm not going to put a P-120 in this Sprint. If the only buyer I can get for the L-39 doesn't want the turbine, then I'll sell it separately. FWIW, after more research I'm REALLY wishing I'd have gone with an Elan...but that was before I just read this:
Seems to me, then, if both an Elan and a Sprint are powered by a P-80, the Sprint will have the better thrust-to-weight ratio and thus better vertical capability.

Correct!
Correct!
My only question would be, with the Elan being larger (heavier), is that worth the extra weight (and lower thrust-to-weight) when it comes to keeping sight/orientation, and handling the wind on landing, as compared to the Sprint?
BTW, a buddy with a Nano is going to let my fly it next week. That will be my 'cherry' jet flight. It should be fun!
Cheers,

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
Because the Elan is a little bigger it appears to be flying slower but the truth is its a much smoother airframe aerodynamically speaking and therefore faster on the same power, there is not that much difference in weight apart from t/off, 3.7 ltrs against 2.5 ltrs of fuel.
Neither are badly affected by sidewinds, if you are not used to jets the Sprint will be plenty fast enough for you!

We clocked my Sprint today with a radar gun. I have an old P-80 in mine and it still clocked at 148 MPH. It was about 90 degrees and very humid. You will love either airframe you buy.

Looks like 150 mph is about all the sprint will do! That's plenty fast for my first jet. What it lacks in speed is made up with a lot of fun flying! Love my Sprint.

Yes but it is beautiful in the air. I don't think I could have got a better first jet. I have 38 flights on it now and like it more everytime I fly it!
