Due to popular request (Bob) I'm posting a couple pictures of my winter project. I needed to find a home for my recently acquired Ram 500. After looking into some of the various kits available I decided to build another Enforcer. My Byroblaster Enforcer is a blast to fly, and with close to 100 flights now I'm very comfortable with it's flight characteristics. So this seemed like a good choice for my first turbine. Also I just happened to have a spare kit sitting in the basement.

I'm almost done framing it up and expect to have it ready to fly in the spring. It will have many of the same mods I made to my DF version. The most noticeable differences are the wider fuse, to accommodate a 50 oz. Dubro tank on the CG and the aluminum motor mount. The wing will be fully sheeted once everything is in place. A removable cover will go over the rear fuse for easy access to all of the equipment.

First twist was to get Joe to buy a turbine since he has been wearing a RAM hat and T-shirt for some time now.

Second was to get a turbine an airframe to reside in.

There was a converstion here in Colo? that wasn't completed about 2 yrs ago thet showed up at a jet rally. I too had a byro-enforcer and can't help but really enjoy the way it flys. Hope the turbine version is similar. Will be looking forawar to this thread.
Most of my d/f stuff is on the way out. But the byro-enforcer could always come back
Of course not if i can aquire another turbine.

Hey joe the TURBO TAZ looks great. I can't wait to see it fly, what kind of landing gear are you
going to use, a good size air brake would be nice so you can leave some power on at final apr.
I'm sure it will be built perfect and clean just like the rest of your jets.

Hi Chris,
Good to hear from you. Have you gotten your Ram 1000 back from RTI yet? I just sent my ECU in to Bob Price to be updated to the latest level. Should have it back in a day or two.

The turbo will have spring air retracts, 3/16" wire struts and BVM wheels/brakes. I was planning on kicking the rudders out board as a speed brake. I'm now realizing that will tie up too many channels and mixes on my 8103. Seems like a good excuse to upgrade to a 9303. Any opinion as to which would be more effective: outboard rudders or speed brake on the bottom?

Joe,

I would go with the speed brake on the bottom:
1) more effective area available for drag, as well as reducing the lift generated.
2) you still have rudder control for crosswind landings.

Hey joe I like to have alot of rudder control on final, because I try to leave my right stick alone
when I feel I have established a good flair, Im for the air brake myself. I extended mine, I think mabe to mutch but it sure slows it down when I need it, I was trying to accommodate
are field. I got my ram back from RTI carlos says it is a true 28 lb 1000 now, I also have a speed limitter now so I can contain myself from killing the bird. I think a F-15 style air brake
would be neat for your jet, thats what I like about the hot spot.

OK, you convinced me. I'll put a speed brake on the bottom. It would have been easier if I made provisions for one earlier. I'll figure something out.

Exactly where are yours located on the Rookie and Top Cat? I'm thinking that it belongs 1-2 inches in front of the CG.

Anyone have a recommendation?

Here's a couple of shots of my engine mount. It looks a lot like Larry's because I got the idea from him. Mine is made out of .064 aluminum. Thinner guage would work, but that is what I was able to find. I'll probably put a few holes in it to lighten it, but I'll wait to see how the finished plane balances out.

Here's my speed brake layout. It works well and it pitches the nose up a bit when deployed. The well area also gives you access to things such as the brake valve and fuel tank. The well cover just pops in and out for service.

THE SPEED BRAKE on my ROO bigger than plans 2.75" x 11.75"
LE location is about 10.5" ahead of CG (CG is about the LE of Robart retracts)
(yes gear are offset since mounts were glued in wrong: one off by 10mm )

Hi Joe,
This is a Balsa USA Enforcer Kit. The tank on the bottom was for extra fuel.
I don't use it any more. I modified the kit to use a larger tank inside. This motor needs fuel.
The jet weighs 16lbs, and the motor has 22lbs of thrust. I have Dave Brown Carbon fiber ribbon
on all spars, and trailling edge. She turns very tight!

I got the idea to build this kit from you Joe, as I had seen your ByroBlaster on RCU early last Year.

Great looking Enforcer Chet. The Enforcer has got to be the most versatile jet there is. I certainly enjoyed flying mine. It flew first with my Schreckling FD 3/64. Great match except if the grass was too long it would not take off. I then installed a RAM 750 but I had to kill the engine to land it. Too much idle thrust and it would not land. I finally installed a RAM 500. It flew with it till I retired the Enforcer. It weighed 12.5 lbs dry with the RAM 500.

You did a great job. I agree with Larry, the Enforcer is a very versatile air frame and seems to be a favorite among kit bashers. It has been quite successful as a pusher prop, ducted fan, and turbine powered plane.

I assume that you fully sheeted the wings. Are they glassed or monokoted?

I haven't made much progress on mine the last couple of weeks. I'll post a few more pictures after I make some progress.
